Docking station?

My main computer crapped out on me, and I ended up getting a laptop (Acer Aspire 5740G) as a replacement. I'd like to keep the portability of my laptop, but I want to use all the stuff (monitor, keyboard, etc) that I was using with my desktop pc, without having tons of wires connnected all over the place to plug/unplug every time I want to go mobile. Are docking stations worth it? Does anyone here use one that is compatible with my laptop that they would recommend?

I love docking stations but the non-dedicated ones aren't really worth it, imo. That model doesn't have a docking port so you'd be looking at, basically, a wiring harness. It's not the same.
If your not doing gaming the USB docking stations are just the same as hardware based ones in simplicity. The only issue is the speed of throwing Video, Sound, Ethernet etc over a single USB port. The ones I have seen work great for everyday computer use though.
You may want to look into Port Replicators. I'm sure Acer has some that perform the duties you're looking for and hopefully provide at least DVI-level video. Otherwise you're sorely underusing your monitor's powers.
