I've got an old PSone dual-analog controller and a $5 Radio shack USB adapter. Works great in FF14 still.
Definitely the preferred way to run around atm IMHO. Although macros are definitely more convenient with the keyboard. Keyboard will be more useful if/when you're able to target group members with F-Keys...
Anyone on Kefka able to craft Pugilist weapons better than the shitty Weathered Hora? Or armor they're able to wear?
is there anything avaliable in the shop? I haven't found a place to buy stuff yet. I'm not really understanding the barter system. I hope to be able to dig in deeper this weekend as during weekdays i am only able to play for an hour or two a night.

I haven't bothered to even use the market wards in beta.
It's basically a instanced zone where everyone parks their retainer bots and has them bazaaring a list of goods, right? Like the bazaar from original EQ? I'm guessing it's impossible to search with any kind of purpose?
I'm assuming that's the case because it's stupid enough to sound exactly right coming from square.
Holy god that sounds like the clusterfucked mess that was AION's system. I mean they had an Auction House, but they also had little bazaars where people could set up - ANYWHERE. It was crazy annoying. Not sure what its so hard to toss something on a centralized auction house.
most people stopped using the player shops in Aion anyway. It's almost universally broker stuff now. There is occasionally a person or two setting up shop near the broker/warehouses but nothing to get worked up over.
Bazaars worked fine too in FFXI. Sure, it wasn't very intuitive if you didn't know what you were looking for as there was no way for people to advertise; but after awhile you start noticing the same people sell the same stuff for roughly the same prices and you know which bazaars to look for when you need x item. Or you just check the AH. Mixed systems can work. They're not ideal and I'd just assume that they went straight AH if they're not going to have a browsable bazaar interface, but it's not a make or break thing once you get used to the system.
Don't want to quote my earlier post but again to reiterate. There are 4 ways to buy/sell things in the game.
There are the Instanced Markets that have all the retainers in them. If you don't like the idea of that. Don't go there. They are tucked away in their own area and do not affect the rest of the game.
There is selling directly to shop NPC's.
You can set up a personal Bazaar on your character just like in FFXI.
And there is an Auction House that is not implemented yet but has a location blocked off for implementation in the future. Has the wonderful AH symbol on it and everything. I can take a screenshot tonight when I get home to help assuage the fears.
Take your pick

Bazaars that players put up on their characters are fine.
It just feels like Retainer based bazaars in the Market Wards are pointless, since you can just as easily use the Auction House. I'm sure the auction house would be a better method for finding different items too.
This crafting system is seriously retarded. 87% with 300 quality 50 durability left ... go all Rapid to finish except for waiting on an unstable and it fails all the way through then and Botches...........................................................

This depends. If they limit the number of item you can have on the Auction House (a la FFXI's 7 item limit) Then in order to sell more items you would need to use other options.
I get the general feeling that the playerbase was clamoring for some sort of better bazaar type system and they put it the current one. I imagine people will still use the AH, and if they can't find what they need they'll hit the bazaar. And if they can't find it there they may hit up random people they find in hopes of finding the item they want.
Should be interesting to see how the AH is implemented. I loved the blind system in FFXI where you were only shown what people had paid for in the past.

I always called it a reverse auction.

i don't get the issue of not knowing where things are and how things work and why isn't it handholding me through everything...
uh, isn't every game like this? why are you complaining about not knowing things in a beta? just wait 6 months and play with a wiki guide or something if you want handholding.

Current generation MMO's have simplified the process.
Enter town, important people to talk to all have big symbols over their head.
Talk to them, skip text, look at objectives.
Open map, head to dot on map.
Complete objective.
rinse Repeat.
This game isn't any different it just forces you to read the text to figure out where to go. The NPC will say, "Ok lets meet at the gate outside town and we'll head out from there."
Then you'll get a bunch of shouts from people in the game "Hey how do I do this quest? I talked to the girl and now i'm stuck! Where I find xxxxxx!"
I love having to read the text, I get the context of the quest, and get to experience the story. The game forces me to do this. I am just as guilty as most people i that I usually skim the quest and just get through it because it is more efficient to do so.

You're welcome. Also, dang that was some improvement you basically went from what my roommate just upgraded to, apparently hated it, and decided to piece together a behemoth of a machine. Not bad, what are you running?

If the ffxi bonus is great and I only have to resub on the squenix site, ok. If it's great and I have to reinstall POL and the many many xi updates, not ok.
Is it possible to just buy the 20 dollar game, using the free month, to get the item?
Should be. Theoretically you just need an active subcription and valid key tied to your account.
On a side note. I am trying to increase my Armorer skills and need to make some Bronze Wire. However I am having difficulty making said wire. Supposedly I just need 2 bronze ingots and some shards but when I queue up the ingots I don't have the option to make wire. I can make some other stuff which is neat, but I need the wire to make rings, to make chainmail etc.
Is there anyone here who has made wire and can tell me what i'm doing wrong?

I believe the bronze wire recipe is for blacksmiths only.

That is what I thought as well. The recipes said I need to use blacksmithing and two bronze ingots. But since that didn't work I figured maybe it was under armorer. Either way it's not working . I'll have to experiment some more tonight.

Has anyone seen this? Has it been posted? FFXIV in 3D? Haha
The reactions to it made me laugh. For some reason it reminded me of the "HD Sunglasses" infomercial.

Everything else is pretty terrible. And pointless, since there'll be an auction house.
Except that FFXI bazaars were wildly popular and there is no reason they won't be again in FFXIV.
Yeah, but the benefit of Bazaars was that there was no tax on them. Now in FFXIV there's going to be a flat 5% tax on every bazaar.

Btw anyone know if there is a Weavers Guild in Limsa? Or can we go into Aleport yet? Whats in there?
No weavers guild, but you can use guild marks in Limsa
Got the benchmark working and what an upgrade! My old rig got like 3800ish and 2400ish and the new rig got 4944 and 3898. I think I'm in good shape!
Radeon 5850
2.8Ghz i5
4gigs ram
Loving it!
Basically, if you're still playing, wait until FFXIV comes out to start canceling
