I've been getting the server error message for the past 3 hours is there any other option besides the magical F5 key? I'm hoping the open beta key's aren't that limited. Wanted to play this ever since I stopped FFXI ^^;

I was able to get in, spend a good 20 minutes creating my character (was working on a Highlander, but decided he didn't match my look too well, so I went for basic trailer guy), and was able to enter the actual game world inside the ship.
But the perfectionist in me decided to log out so I could configure the graphics and 360 controller. Also, the mouse movement seemed janky and overall crap.
But now I can't log back in. I can sometimes make it to the title screen, but once I hit "Start Game" I get a server error.

Well I'm getting server lobby errors BUT just getting there was enough to confirm that my sweet set-up works.... Drag my PC to the middle of my room and play the game on my 42" TV as opposed to the 19" monitor.
Even posting on here looks fantastic! Now with the 360 controller as well everything just feels right.
I'm just gonna have to avoid any girls coming over here... and if they do plan to do some quick re-arranging. Man this is an ugly set-up!
Thank you for the link, apparently the Server Error message was a ruse >.<; the one you gave says that they have suspended FFXIV applications for the beta test. ;_; 3hours of F5 for nuffing. Thanks though, least I can stop pressing this key, I think it's about to fall off...

Managed to log in finally! But I got a error message about the lobby and it went back to my desktop.
That's what's currently plaguing me.
I'm seriously bummed. I was actually IN the freaking game, had a chance to play and everything, but I had to go and log out.
I bet the fucking thing starts working at some bullshit hour when I'm sleeping, and once I get up everyone will have already run around the world three times and got all the cool equipment. Story of my life.

I was VERY impressed by the opening cutscenes though. Since it's pretty much the same damned engine the game runs in.

Did you go into the S-E Management System and input the key they sent you in the email after you were accepted? You need to create the account for the open betatest there.

The game will toss every kind of error message imaginable, but the good news is that none of it is your fault.

Yes. I had already started up the game when this happened. And had already gotten to character creation the first time I managed to get in the game. I just tried again and got some lobby error in the game.

SO MANY hurdles to get through.
Yeah, their system is getting kicked in the balls pretty hard. I might just call it a night and wait until tomorrow morning. I suspect the lobby error might be something we have to wait for them to clear so we can login again.

S-E manages to fix one thing, only to break a few other important steps in order to get players online and playing. Hopefully all of this will be sorted out by tomorrow morning.

Perhaps the OP should be updated with the more relevant info on what servers people have created on so far and if we've got some kind of guild structure recreated? Could help when things get more coherent on S-E's end.

No chat command instructions, no hot key info whatsoever.
These are seriously horrible controls though, not even kidding.
They should've hotkeyed the journal,stats and inventory before giving hotkeys to camera control.
This. So much this. I'm so used to PC games hotkeying every possible command (inventory, reply to tell, switch to party chat, open journal, open stats, etc) that the complete lack of any of those commands is killing me.

Small note: Not too long ago I registered a key using firefox throughout the process, so I'm not sure what that is about.

Or you could open up the config in game and go to Keyboard commands? Whole list of them there and you can even change them!
