You could also try going out to one of those restaurants that serve the dreaded "foreign foods" and have a friend with a broader palette order for you and not tell you what it is until you've put it in your mouth, so you don't have a chance to prejudge it like a petulant child.
I mean, as long as your friend isn't the sort of ass who would order something like poison blowfish or chocolate salo just to fuck with you.
This is immensely scary.
Like that one show where the mentally insane person goes to different parts of the world trying different cultural foods. It gives me the creeps just thinking about it.
But damn, I wish I had more of a choice on which foods I liked.
I've never had kimchi, and the Wikipedia article on it really gives me no data on whether I might think it, as a whole, would be good or not, because basically it defines kimchi as "any of any number of dishes largely consisting of vegetables". It could taste like any damn thing as far as I know.
purple/red onions are pretty great
onions in general really
they are excellent with any sort of meat
if I am eating a meat dish that does not in itself incorporate onions, I will cut some up, rinse them in cold water and add some lime and cilantro
edit: also garlic
yeah, I keep a pack of some really strong gum on me most of the time

Look at it this way, there is a 99.9% chance that whatever bullshit you would be eating otherwise is more likely to kill you than whatever somebody could potentially order you at a halfway decent non-American food restaurant.

I will grill some burgers with diced onions and then fedex them to you
They are like little flavor explosions in the middle of your burger

yes yes yes
my Mom puts onions in the ground meat whenever we make burgers
sadly she now lives in Virginia
I kinda feel like an ass for living around a ton of Mexican restaurants, but all I ever go to is Chipotle and Taco Bell, because I'm poor and unadventurous.
Fake edit: HOW DO YOU EAT TACOS WITHOUT LETTUCE?! Imagining it in my head it just sounds gross.
Taco bueno is sooo good. Way better than Mayo. But I always have to order my tacos "with no lettuce or tomatoes" which I hate saying for some reason.
I will tell you this from personal experience- you need to ditch the meat-and-carbs-only thing
Why is that?
Also, no chicken fries left . But it's OK! I made a fresh sandwich with that thin cut chicken and some pepper-jack cheese. Here is the kicker: on wheat bread! I figured it can't be that bad and I heard somewhere that white bread isn't as healthy. So I am trying something new guys!

Man if eating Chipotle on a regular basis is wrong
avocados and alcohol are the two foodstuffs I most regret not liking too much
everyone around me seems to love them- avocados more than alcohol though
I assume you mean you regret not liking avocados more than alcohol, rather than everyone around you loves avocados more than alcohol.
I just got this imagine in my head of a high school party being held at a house where the parents are out of town, and things start getting real wild when a couple of dudes in backwards baseball hats roll in with a bushel full of avocados.
no, I mean more people around me like avocados than alcohol
I can't think of anyone I know that doesn't like avocados
I can think of a very few who don't like alcohol
You just have to find what you like and, pro-tip, it probably isn't what people will hand you at a party.
I tried beers with my cousins in Denver. Didn't like Fat Tire, Sam Adams (Pale Ale and Boston Lager), Corona, Yuengling, Laughing Lab Scottish Ale, could tolerate Skinny Dip. Had slightly better luck with mixed drinks- Gin and Tonic and Crown and Coke were tolerable, and Bloody Mary was the best of those (edit: and the only one I'd drink of my own volition rather than socially).

You may be a wine dude. Try a Riesling or Ice Wine if you like sweet, they're my favorite.

I liked wine even less than beer. I haven't tried a lot of them, however, but I'll be joining one of my friends on a wine tasting thing he's going to.
Iirc Fat Tire is pretty flavorful (read: if you aren't used to beer it takes a lot of getting used to).
If you liked Skinny Dip you might try Blue Moon. Lighter beers tend to be easier to get into. Leinenkugel Summer Shandy is basically beer lemonade, which is probably a lot tastier than it sounds.

Fuck kimchi
kimchi is great
Veggies are delicious
Recently I have acquired a love for purple onions, even though I used to hate them as a kid
I got smarter
This is immensely scary.

True. I can't argue against that.

Chipotle
Carnitas is the best, and then just tell them to keep piling on the veggies
They can't tell you no and best of all they don't charge you extra at the register, unless it's guacamole
Have I mentioned my love for guacamole? I love guacamole
There was a place called James's back when I used to visit my friend down there, they had the best tortillas and chile rellenos
Sadly I do not think it exists anymore and I heard it was a front for the Mexican Mafia or something, but you can always check
well that and it was dinner time
so I made an awesome salad. And then put breaded scallops with it because I had scallops that needed eating and scallops are friggin amazing.
I think I see feta in there :^:

I went once, I think. I do remember the food being excellent.
But really, any of the little taquerias all over San Antonio have a solid menu.

Part of me thinks that looks really good for some reason. But I seriously doubt I would like it.
Man if eating Chipotle on a regular basis is wrong
Well
It's not so I shouldn't even finish that sentence
because not eating vegetables is not good for you
bell peppers and spinach are the easiest to get into
edit: well, they were for me anyway
So good.
It's the best thing ever

This looks fucking incredible!
I was about to post that this food talk inspired me to have a salad for lunch, and now I have severe salad envy
