Just finished the demo as the fighter. Really enjoyed the hack and slash aspect combined with dodging and special moves, it felt like I was on the move alot and not just mashing attack for victory. Only died once! And the rare items were cool looking of the ones I got.

Its confirmed there is local co-op in retail right? I want to play the full version with my wife providing titty support.

    Local co-op is confirmed. Yeah.

I was pleasantly surprised by the demo, it exceeded my expectations.

The story was better than expected, which isn't exactly high praise but it means I won't be mashing start the moment every cutscene or conversation begins. The dialogue wheel is a pretty shoddy Mass Effect ripoff, but whatever, dialogue in an action RPG is basically like extra icing: unexpected but tolerable and easy to ignore if you dislike it.

The combat was really, really solid, which is the most important part for me. I played through Hardcore and aside from one nonsense death (at the start of the boss fight, I died the moment the intro dialogue ended, apparently before I had time to see the thirty attacks aimed directly at my forehead), found the difficulty at a really good place. You need to think enough to keep the combat from being monotonous, and you have enough abilities at your disposal that fighting enemies is more fun than not.

The two-style system is pretty boss, I'm a big fan. I wish the switch could trigger during a roll, it triggers immediately after so there's not any meaningful delay, but I'll end up hitting switch stance several times during a roll because I don't hear that magical "ting" sound.

The game really, really, really needs a sprint button. Some of those long walks can be pretty boring.

Most important part is the combat, and the combat is really fun, so I'm now sold on this title. Hope the co-op nonsense doesn't end up hurting the game, I can understand why its in place for several reasons but I really like the feel of having "my character" in a game.

Equipping different swords and shields were changing the model shown. Not sure about armor.

Yikes if not, talk about a step back for a loot based game (which DS has always been like it or not).

As far as Multiplayer goes it's like this. I know it's been mentioned but people are still coming in here not knowing how it actually works.

You play Single Player. Get strong. Do stuff. Cool. Good for you. You join someones game. When you join you are then creating the character that will be used to play with that particular person every time you join their game. You keep everything you've done with that character on that character with the person you have joined. So it's like making a new character. Except it doesn't go away. It's Multiplayer only.

They didn't want you to join someones game who was near the end, get nasty powerful shit, go back to single, kill everything. I can see why they did what they did.

So just remember. You don't lose everything you have done. It's all there. But it will only be there when you play with that same person in co-op again. You have your own special character for that co-op partner whenever you play.

I prefer the Diablo 2 model. Are mp characters saved on the host's machine? If that's the case then I'm sure it won't be long before people write utilities to export/move characters between games. This game features multiple difficulties, right? As in, you gotta go through normal to get to nightmare to get to hell. If that's the case then I want to grind my character through normal/nightmare (and have a friend do the same) so we can both jump into the hardest shit together. That's what we used to do for Titan Quest, Diablo, Sacred, etc.

Also, for some reason, I was under the impression that this game comes out next week, but its still three weeks away... :(Boner Kill

Really diggin Anjali, her fire lady form could use a damage boost though since its only useful against single mans, and in a game like this its not often that you aren't attacked by large groups.

Could someone bring me up to date with the coop mechanics again? Do the other players have their own characters or do they only borrow one?

Sounds like you have a permanent character on someone elses machine. If me and you play co op, you start at zero and that characters stays on my machine. It keeps it's levels and loot but you can only play that character when me and you play co op.

I assume host machine can bring their solo character to co op, or does host get a specific multi only character as well?

Yeah it sounds like it would be a good system for you to be able to join up with a bud without worrying about not being the right level having powerful loot or what have you. More of a casual co-op experience.

    Not a bad thing really.

This is not true, if I'm reading the information correctly. The host gets to keep all his stuff that you helped him get. I may be wrong, but it seems like the only restriction is that people joining you have local-only characters. Since the host is always local, he gets to keep everything... at least, until he wants to be hosted by someone else, at which point he gets a character specific to that host.

I agree. I like the Diablo way more myself. I mean. I understand wanting to limit people and stop them from destroying so fast but also it's kind of like...well...I bought the game. Let me do it how I will. Ya know?

And I believe so. As far as where it saves goes I have no clue. I know that you will use the same character in the game with the person you've played with as online only and that co-op partner only. Not sure how the saving goes sadly.

And yeah multiple difficulties. there are 3.

It would be nice if someone with clear experience could explain, but my assumptions from the demo:

-- At the end of the demo, you get a "companion character" who is treated as a full character (you can gear them, give them talents and abilities, etc.) and it appears that you can swap out companion characters later in the game.

-- Dialogue between characters and the "hero" seems potentially important

-- Co-op characters are unique and restricted to a single game, you can't bring your personal hero into another player's game.

With that in mind, I'm assuming that:

-- When you play co-op, you essentially take over another player's companion character. The character is fully realized in terms of abilities and equipment, but the game continues story-wise as if the host were playing a single player game except they always use whoever you picked as a companion.

I'm curious if the co-op player gets to reset talents or abilities or equipment, how they level if the host plays solo, if their choices are persistent if they quit and come back, etc.

Its a shame you can't bring your favorite character into a co-op game, but it does solve the "Do you have a level 35 soldier?" problem other co-op RPGs had. You don't need to carefully level a character just to play with a friend, because the system ensures you'll always have one.

Really hope this is implemented well, could be a make-it-or-break-it for online play.

Yeah being able to play with my wife as a partner like MUA 2 is a major selling point. Also being able to join a friends game without worrying about levels/gear will also be nice.

I figured the talent point thing would work like in the demo, when you get your ai partner you got to put points in. Probably the same for a friend who joins.

Thats actually pretty much the reason why I'm not bothered by the co-op much (since the charachters are pre-defined anyway). However, if this isn't the case in the full version this would be the one big MP deal breaker for me since me and my friends are going to play solo in our games for a while. I played the 360 demo last night and....undecided. The stance switch mechanic seems unnecessary; it's basically just using the trigger to switch skillets, except that it introduces a lag in switching from, say, the 2-handed stance distance closing dash to the sword-and-board shield bash to the face to do the animation. Linking the skills together fluidly and constantly is what makes the combat in these kinds of games even minimally engaging so that worries me a bit. It also seemed to me like your 'mana' (whatever that blue bar was) stays static even as you level up, so you're never in a position to just toss out awesome attacks consistently but have to pound 'attack' a lot. I did notice there were some talents and perks that seemed to help boost restoration so that might help.

I'll probably play the full game but I'm not sure it's a full price pickup for me. Felt more like a slightly deeper and much more polished Marvel:UA than a Diablo 2 competitor. I can't really see playing it through more than once unless there's a lot more variable content than it looks like there is - the demo at least was very tightly scripted and linear. I'll play through it again with the fire skank and see if my opinion changes at all.

I played the demo and I was peretty impressed. I really love the cutomization in it. Graphics are ok, the frame rate drops terribly in town tho and the levels are pretty much hallways right at the start but there were still hidden stuff within them. Here's hoping the PS3 version looks better.

As for armour change, I got some green level rarity Breastplate that I'm pretty sure changed Anjali's torso to red. So there's that. Also, her tits are ridiculously huge. Like comic level.

Yeah, she was pretty neat. I went with upgrading her aura thing and then went with the Fire Jackal, who was a HUGE disappointment. He doesn't even follow you!

I also like how most of the equipment wasn't obviously better, they were just better for certain stats so you had to put some thought into what your build was going to be.

And when the camera swung accindentally around in the town and suddenly I was eye-to-areola with her knockers I just busted up. Seriously it's like she's smuggling Volkswagons under there.

I ran through the demo again, and some items do change Anjali's appearance, I noticed a new pair of bracers gave her a steel looking cover on the one arm, and a new breastplate removed that green boob top, and gave me a steel breastplate instead.

But not everything will alter her appearance, the bracers that gave that steel look had different icon graphic than the rest of them, but the breastplate did not though.

    First (technical) Impressions from me

    - Really like the Graphics and Art Style. The Vistas are the best part, sadly a little hidden.
    - Love the effects. Very atmospheric. (Shadows are incredible)
    - Smooth Gameplay and Framerate
    - Love the Intro cutscenes.
    - Dislike Mouse/KB controls. It works somewhat well with the WASD system and is nowhere near unplayable (Have been through way worse) but its not exactly praisable at this state.
    - You have to leave the game to switch controller/Mouse support. Seriously? Just give us the option in the Options Menue for Christs Sake.
    - There only seems to be two of the camera perspectives in the demo of the announced three. They work well though IMO.

Onyx Engine is great. Hope they stay with it now.
