I'm running a PC at work that unfortunately has files scattered about everywhere--my boss would often times save files at C:\ and other random places. So, at the moment, I can't exactly do backup and reinstall.
So I need some performance tips. It's a Core 2 Quad and I've got the maximum about of ram installed (3.25GB) so I'm looking to see what else I can do to help speed things up.
Unfortunately I think some of it has to do with CorelDraw's generally shittyness. It locks up way more often than it should.
Check to see if the Paging File is disabled - if so, there will be no Paging Areas set up. I'm not at home so I can't tell you the exact location, but right click Computer and click Properties from Start.
I second CCleaner, make sure to run a few times (and pay attention during the installer or you'll get yahoo crapware). Defrag, defrag, defrag (I'm not repeating for emphasis, I mean do it at least three times). Run msconfig and disable all the startup services (check the "hide ms services" first) and executables (you don't need the Java and acrobat preloaders, your machine doesn't need assistance. If you're using anti-virus, ditch it. If you have to have it; the only one I've found that doesn't destroy performance is the security essentials (free from MS). Run through add/remove programs and get rid of any unneeded stuff. Then run ccleaner a couple more times. Also open the case and take a can of air to it, make sure theres no IDE cables or whatnot blocking airflow.
Windows+R, msconfig, uncheck everything in "startup" that doesn't look import. Look at services tap, check "Hide all Microsoft services", uncheck stuff that doesn't look important. Save changes, reboot.
