Odd little issue with dual screens.

Teslan26Teslan26 Registered User regular
I recently graduated to the world of having 2 screens for my PC, in part for the sheer joy of running 2 eve online clients at once without having to alt tab.

When, and only when, eve is on the 'second' screen and I have a browser on my main monitor I have a problem. The eve client will fade to black everytime I hover over a link, or click on message boxes to type, or any number of other things that I do whilst using the internet.

This does not apply when the setup is reversed and eve is on main screen and I browse in the secondary one.

I use google chrome.

Edit: Radeon HD 2600XT

Edit 2: It does not happen when using firefox instead.

That's like, incredibly weird. Just stupendously odd. Try Internet Explorer and/or Opera or something. I'm curious to see if it's just Chrome or what.

If it turns out to be just Chrome, it may be running with hardware acceleration or something and the next step would be trying to turn that off.

    Internet explorer is also fine.

In fact, just switching to chrome from IE caused EVE to black out.

Now, when I have EVE underneath a Jabber window on that second screen - it STILL blacks out as soon as I do stuff on chrome, but the jabber window stays fine. (Until then I could see eve running beneath it, but then it was jabber on top of black)

Inexplicable graphical weirdness? Sounds like a driver issue.

I shall attempt to navigate the ATI website and get the newest catalyst control centre thing

Newest drivers have made an impact. Problem is not completely removed, but is now reduced to the eve client flickering quickly - blacking out and refreshing.

Thank you for telling me something I really should have already done (sorry).

Unless you are running the client in windowed mode, you will see weird issues. Fewer if you are running Windows 7, though.

windowed mode if you're not using it is a dual monitors best friend, he's right.

Windowed mode is so good. Me and my friend both started using dual monitors. He had problems alt+tabbing out of some games where it would take 30 seconds or more to come back up or disconnect him from the game (mainly in MW2). I figured out how to run it in windowed mode and he never has the problems anymore. It's so handy for moving to a browser or chat client on the other monitor.

I would happily run windowed mode if it could just be maximised (as per every other MMO I've ever played). As it is I run it in windowed mode but with EveMon expanding it to fit the full screen. Whether that is any better I do not know.

I hate having large patches of desktop showing behind a game :(

That's what I do. Windowed mode as large as possible so it is basically full screen with the ability to move out of it easily. I run pretty much everything from Steam too so if it is a game that I can't get out of easily, just bring up the Steam overlay and move out of the window.

On the topic of dual monitors, does anyone know of a way to recall a window that is stuck in limbo if you disconnect the second monitor?

For example, I have a window on the second monitor and disconnect that monitor. Sometimes instead of moving back to the main display a window will get stuck where it should be on the other monitor with no way to reach it. Closing and reopening the program usually doesn't do anything but reopen it in that same unreachable area.

Is there a way to recall the window to the main display without connecting another monitor to retrieve it?

shift right click on the entry on the bar and select move, and press an arrow key and you can move it with your mouse (or just hold the arrow key to move it back to the other monitor). I often do this when I'm too lazy to turn on my second monitor

Oh shit that's awesome. I'd been googling and found nothing but other fancy Shift+RClick functions. Thanks a lot.
