this happened to me against one of those knights with a rapier. I'm on my way back to get souls from the asshole gargoyles, didn't feel like playing peekaboo with him and his damn shield, so I just slashed away. Dude up and one shots me with a riposte. I turned off the system.
"If a cherry pie filled cape is wrong, I don't want to be right.
I'm dead serious."
How exactly does parry work. I've been mostly just blocking an attack, then doing a short sword combo attack, repeat if needed.
Press R2 just as their attack connects. The timing varies wildly between enemies. Personally, I don't bother because I wind up eating it rather than parrying successfully the majority of the time.

If he has his sword leveled at you in a ready stance, don't attack.

You can only parry small enemy attacks with weapons anyway, right?
Like, you couldn't parry a rat biting you or something?
Yeah, I used that farming spot, until about SL 20.

I might do the same, right now I'm farming it so I can buy enough heavy bolts to shoot off the dragons tail. I figure 50 heavy bolts with a light crossbow might do it

I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
Question, is there a way to tell in the game UI without looking at a guide or info online what stats a given weapon requires to wield effectively, and how well it scales with stats? I'd like my Bandit to have the option of bows, but as I primarily use axes I don't really want to focus on dex. I want to get just enough to use the bows I want to use.

also, is there a way to free-aim the crossbow?
I don't know about seeing what it scales with, but in your inventory I think you just hit square to cycle through the display options... not sure of the 360 button, I'd guess X if they are the same position. The bottom of the screen on all menus say which button does what. And I'm not talking about on the equip screen, this is in the inventory "bag icon" one. Shows stats and what you need.
I forget, but in Demon's Souls you had to double requirements on 2handers to wield them in 1 hand right?
Scaling might have a stat in a different color too, or would be the higher stat. Such as something that scales with dex would have high dex requirements. Not 100% sure on that though as upgrading things can actually change their stat scaling.
Whaat there's a shopkeeper just after the tutorial area?? The only person i met so far is one guy when leaving that told me I needed to go up and down. Went in the up area I think and I'm a a bonfire near a minotaur boss.
I have no idea where this dude is either.
Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
Naw in demons souls the strength requirement on all weapons was for one hand. If you wanted to wield it in 2 hands, then it would be less. If you had 12 strength, you could use a bow with a req of 18 because you always wield a bow in two hands.

He's quite easy to miss. Here are directions:
The shopkeeper is near the bonfire before the Taurus Demon. Head out the door from the bonfire room, and hang a right down the ramp past the archer skeleton. Once you're down that ramp, you should be on a platform with a few barricades. Head left from there, over to another platform with two undead with spears+shields. Take care of them, and destroy the barrels on the left side of that platform to reveal a staircase. On the lowest level of that building outside on a balcony you should find the shopkeeper.

Other way around, wielding a 2handed sword with 1 hand. It took more str... I just dont recall if it was simply doubled or not.
Once my guy was rather high in stats I was able to hold a big ass shield and a 2hander sword at the same time, and wield them with ease too.
Anyone know any good soul farming spots? I just killed the Bell Gargoyles and want to farm a bit before I head to The Depths
I was describing one earlier, although I haven't tested it as a "farming spot"... its a totally cheap as fuck way to kill all the skeletons in the graveyard near the first bonfire after the tutorial area. I'm gonna test it later, since I wasn't sure if those guys will respawn or not.
Basically just get them to fall of an edge, by jumping a spot with a gap. It worked for me once, but I need to repeat it before I consider it easy farming or not.
Also its not really a spoiler as its been said a lot, having the dragon torch all the enemies on the bridge gives you 300 souls. The ladder there is right at a bonfire, so you just climb it run out for a split second which causes the dragon to torch things... rest at bonfire, repeat. Its not a ton of souls though... unlike the Demon's Souls farming spot where you shoot an arrow at the "head" enemy or whatever and everything dies haha.
Some did in Demon's Souls. I was fighting the guardian of the maiden in 5-3 this past weekend and that's how I kept dying to that fucker. He's still alive.
300 really doesn't strike me as a lot considering just tearing through all of the non boss mobs between the first bonfire in the Burg and the bridge with the dragon nets you over 600.
It's quicker, but only seems worthwhile if you're doing something else at the same time I s'pose.

I wish there was a way you could store humanity... rather than just having to spend it. I have 3 right now, and I don't want to travel into the depths yet...

well, the more humanity you have the better your item drop rate and better your curse resistance, so you're better holding it and risking it then spending it all anyway.

its weird but the strength reqs definitely decrease if you use it in 2 hands. See this page and take note of the asterisk
* when two handing a weapon, strength requirements are decreased. See individual weapons page for details.
They could have changed this in darksouls, I dont know

Yea, but by the time you kill the mobs between the Burg and the bridge once, I'll have made double the souls you made.
Edit/Update: I just did timed it four times for the 300 souls off the dragon bridge by getting the dragon to burn the dudes up there. I did it four times in about 28-30 seconds each time, 300 souls a pop.

Sounds good, I'm using the dragon bridge technique for now. I wanted to level up enough so I could use the Gargoyle Axe, but now I want enough to upgrade it a couple times before going to the depths.
Anyone else notice the Gargoyle Axe slightly poisons and bleeds you when you equip it? Rather strange...

Wait, is the Humanity number in the upper left different from the Humanity items you are carrying?

It's like souls. The number in the corner is equivalent to carrying around souls in the bottom right. The humanity items are like the soul items you find dropped: perfectly safe until you use them.
Oh that's really cool! So I thought the Gargoyle Axe was poisoning and bleeding me, but it's actually increasing my poison and bleed resist by a TON while equipped. That's really neat!
I figured out that I've made enough shortcuts that I can basically just make a mad dash to the boss without fighting anything. He doesn't seem too hard, so hopefully this ordeal will soon be over.
you could do the burg run until you get to the bridge then take the shortcut down to the bonfire, rest and do it all again, its slow but fairly solid. I've heard of a good farming spot in a place just vaguely called 'the forest area' that can net you 7-8k souls every 20-30 second run but the person who mentioned it was deliberately being silent about details so it may not be true. he also mentioned it required a 20k soul investment of some kind to get to work.

I think it may still be useful for minibosses/bosses whose timing you know well - but against normal mobs I think the reward isn't worth the risk.
