I HATE SEWERS... Okay, that's fine.. What's behind this butcher guy. OH! Cool, a stairs. *falls down a hole* Whoops. OMG GIANT RAT. *Rains fiery death from above and kills rat. Explores surroundings, jumps down, then grabs sewer key. Explores more cautiously into the next area.* OH GOD! SLIMEY THINGS ARE DROPPING EVERYWHERE!? *survive and explore more. White Fog* Okay, well, first fog, let's go and see what's inside. *Cutscene to Gaping Dragon* OH GOD! NOOOOOOO! *Dies*
Are there significantly fewer messages/spirits down below, on the path to the second bell? I'd like to summon some help, as long as I'm human, but I don't know if I can expect people to have put down their stones. Only one way to find out!

In general I'm just not seeing many summons or messages at all. I got kind of used to seeing the stuff left and right in Demon's Souls

I tried to summon someone to help me kill the Bell Gargoyles. I waited for about 15 minutes, nobody showed up
I'm still not seeing many (ok any) summon markings, but messages are *everywhere*, the underworld has a serious graffiti problem.
edit: i'm pretty sure that's blockable if your a bad enough dude with a big enough shield spawn. But only once..and then when you're staggered he goes to town on your ass and you cry
GameFly recieved Deus Ex, hopefully they get Dark Souls out in the mail today as I just refilled my anti-anxiety medication, so the timing would be perfect!
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Playing a Knight on the first playthrough since I need to look cool. Rolling is soooooo slow and I didn't know you could become encumbered before reading this + I'm carrying around like 3 battle axes, a spear, 4 sets of hollowed armor, etc etc....
Question about the armored boar.
If you kill him with the fire trick, does he drop the helm?
Encumberance only counts for items you have equipped. You have a limitless bag, but once you equip stuff it starts to add up.
I cant remember the calculation but at 25/50% encumbrance your roll speed and movement starts to get noticably slower.
As for your Boar question
I dont think this game ever limits your loot based on how you kill something. I started my attack with the fire but ended up killing it with my mace.. That is, as long as you can loot the body
I killed the boar
by closing the gate on him, and he didn't drop anything.

It's not a guaranteed drop. Some people just get unlucky. You'll find more later though.
And I've killed the boar, and got past the crazed zombies in the basement. I go along, and kill my first knight and I'm feeling good. I lure all the knights out of the big knights room, and get the portcullis open. I kill all the people around the big black knight, and I'm low on health but I want the loot behind him. So, I figure I'll lure him out and kite him around so I can get to the loot. All goes well, and I sprint into the church area with him a long way behind me. Suddenly, there's a fizzing noise behind me and 10 feet from the loot I'm blasted away by a sorcerer up in the rafters leaving my soul stuck right underneath where the boss stands.....
finnaly killed the fucker garegoyle twins, feeling like I boss, I waltz over to the black knight that guards the defense ring, fucked him up, got his sword and a shard. High on power, I waltz into the tower leading to the place with the crystal mobs, get to the guy below weilding the shitty mace weapon, back stab him 20 times in the spine for another ring and 3k souls. Completly drunk on my own badassness, I kill 2 crstal mobs for a shitty amount of souls then high tail it back to a bonfire when giant water blasts start coming my way from some harbinger of death off screen. Was a good session.

Arghhh!
Go around the Cathedral to the right, don't enter it. You'll come to an area with an archer and few knights and a new path to the right. There is a campfire there. AND, it's pretty much next to a side entrance. Hint: For the sorcerer up top, use a bow.
How would this even work? Don't you have to kill the boar to safely get into the basement to get through to behind the door? I just killed the boar from behind the pillars.

Double Arghh, I went over to that part and killed the archer and the skeleton swordsmen, but didn't see any campfires...

into the basement, you don't have to fight him - he can't fit through the passage. Then you can go all the way around to where the gate is, open it up, drop a lure on the gate, and then close it while it's attacking the lure. BOOM.
Been trying to join a coop session with my friend for the past 2 hours and no luck. I am in human form, he is hollowed. We both have the stone to join another player (killed 2nd boss) and we can't get the thing to show up to summon one another
Question, is there a way to tell in the game UI without looking at a guide or info online what stats a given weapon requires to wield effectively, and how well it scales with stats? I'd like my Bandit to have the option of bows, but as I primarily use axes I don't really want to focus on dex. I want to get just enough to use the bows I want to use.
I found it... when you look at items in your inventory, and push square (or the 360 equivalent) you will see in the bottom right a "ParamBonus" thing with grades. Those show like a strength icon and a grade like C. So of course the higher grade, like an A would mean you get more scaling with that stat. Some have no grade, like the drake sword... which is why its normal damage is so high starting out, but will be useless later without scaling.
its weird but the strength reqs definitely decrease if you use it in 2 hands. See this page and take note of the asterisk
* when two handing a weapon, strength requirements are decreased. See individual weapons page for details.
They could have changed this in darksouls, I dont know
Right, I know it is less when wielding WITH 2 hands. I'm talking about if a "2 HANDED" sword is wielded with "1 HAND". Like if you have a claymore in one hand and a shield in the other. It requires extra strength.
Is there any reason you wouldn't want to get summoned? You get souls and a chance to gain humanity, what happens if you die as a soul in another persons game?
EDIT: Do you get souls as a soul in another person's game?

It is just a bit difficult since I don't seem to be able to zoom in like I assume can be done with the bow.

Yeah, Parry and Riposte timing is rough, but the easiest way to beat him.

Wonder if its similar to mobs with tails dropping weapons if you attack the tail
