this happened to me against one of those knights with a rapier. I'm on my way back to get souls from the asshole gargoyles, didn't feel like playing peekaboo with him and his damn shield, so I just slashed away. Dude up and one shots me with a riposte. I turned off the system.
If he has his sword leveled at you in a ready stance, don't attack.
Awwwriiiight. Time to fight the Silver Knight again!
Maybe attempt ten will yield victory. If not, I may consider stocking up on firebombs again. Firebombs are pretty boss. Some Heavy arrows, too, I think.
So has anyone figured out what Pyromancy actually scales off? I hear that it'll double in power at ten humanity, which I was nearly able to test despite how utterly cruel that would be, but I lost two humanity to a cliff and I only have six chiclets now.
-The knights with Rapiers amuse me so much. Oh look at your fancy little tiny metal buckler. FIREBALL!
This almost seems like a spiritual heir to the King's Quest games. Only, you know, good.
....wha....I....King's Quest?? wheres the comparison? because theres a sword in the game?

If it is like Demon's Souls you lose nothing from dying in another person's game, you even keep the souls you gain.
You just do not get the bonus souls that getting a good rating at the end of the lvl from the person you helped would get you.

You know that if you fall off a cliff, your bloodstain will usually still be right at the solid ground before you fell off right?

Well, dark souls doesn't have levels (ie stages) and I haven't seen any rating skills so I guess that drawback isn't in this one.

Oh yeah, I just happened to do a bad roll while heading back to my bloodstain that one time. Went sailing off into the blue.

Did they release any news on the status of the Demon's Souls servers? I am not done with it yet and would hate for them to be turned off when Dark Souls comes out here in Europe in 2 days.
I am having so much fun with the online features right now, playing a Black Phantom for the first time was really intense.

To be slightly nit picky, at least the way I heard it was that the servers will be maintained "into" 2012. Technically taking the servers down on January 1st, 2012 is "into" 2012.
I haven't played Demon's Souls, or Dark Souls (Yet!)
How come its so easy to fall off cliffs? Can you not see that you're on a cliff?
It's, uh. Manyfold, really. There are a LOT of cliffs and ledges, for one. Many of the areas are defined not by walls, but by the virtue of being a mile high in the air on a sheer mountain. Folks that really like to roll rather than block or parry have a tendency to misjudge their distance or just forget which direction the cliff happens to be and go tumbling off. on top of that, some attacks have a movement component, so folks tossing fire balls might edge forward a little too far, and woops, there's no ground under the ledge they were sniping from- splat.
You'll see it now and then if you activate other people's bloodstains, sometimes it's quite comical.
Regarding Pyromancy:
Oooh, neat! I might hold off on bothering with int at all for some time. I guess I should go pick up Soul Arrow and see how I like this version first, before I write off Sorcery.
So, I didn't have that much trouble with the Bell Gargoyles. It took about 4 attempts, but I got them down. I did NOT know you could summon Solaire however, and as such, I guess I missed out on getting a Sun Medallion from keeping him alive through the boss fight. That just seems really dicey though - if he dies, no more Warrior of the Sun Covenant.
I'm thinking I should probably try to farm some souls to buy up all these Miracles I'm seeing. Besides the Heal for starting as a Cleric, I haven't purchased any others. 40k souls for that one from the chap in the Undead Parish Bell Tower also feels like I just know I'll die while holding 40k en route to him, and then stupidly die again before I can recover them. :P

What exactly are the benefits of repelling an invading Black Phantom in Demon's Souls? Are there even any? When I won the fight as phantom I was alive again, which is already no big thing, considering it's easy enough to play in soul form and I had 5+ stones for resurrection left in my inventory, but the other guy wasted a lot of fire bombs and herbs trying to fight me and even if he had won, what would have been in it for him?

Might as well post a little tidbit about my experience last night:
Spent a Humanity to go into Human form, and saw a white summoning spot right outside the last bonfire before Taurus Demon. He was well armored and had a nice looking weapon. I started out as a thief, so on the way there we stopped into the locked room in the tower
and killed the HEAVILY armored dude with the huge bone-hammer thing and got the weight increase ring
on the way to the Taurus Demon. He climbed to the top of the tower after I activated the demon, and we proceeded to smack him down...until I accidentally rolled off the damn ledge. Damn twitchy adrenaline issues.
Went on later to solo the guy since I didn't have any humanity left to spend to become human again. Used a crossbow and just dodged all of his attacks and shot him from afar. Fun times!
I was told to go back to the area before the dragon bridge, around where the sun knight is who gives you the white stone, there is a door there that you have a key for. I ended up exploring the forest instead for a while though.
I am having a character identity crisis, someone help me before I get back from work. I rolled a Wanderer yesterday and am a little lukewarm on him. I planned to go heavy dex with light armor to focus on dodging, but so far dodging doesn't seem that great. It always moves me too far away to counter-attack very well so I waste a lot of time getting back in range while they recover. I'm considering rerolling as a tank like I did in Demon's Souls, because being able to just stand face to face and block everything is baller as hell. Can anybody comment on how light melee characters work out later on?
Gosh I am terrible at this game but it is so much fuuuuun!
Up yours, Silver Knight.
On the other hand, I'm getting an awful lot of souls from rampaging through the firebomb zombies. Every time I get to him I'm 800 souls richer. Ain't much, but at least there's some tangible benefit to my learning experience.
-almoooooost. I think next time I'll have him.

I reached the next area after undead burg, but I hit my stopping point. Ouch.
I won't be fighting that goat demon and his puppies without help. Yeesh.
Anyone got any tips for the Capra Demon? I'm not worried about long-term strategic tips, as I've seen walkthrough videos and everything for it. My problem is surviving the first 10 seconds of the fight. I can't seem to block OR dodge that first jumping attack he does. Any tips?

How do you get in that door? I had two keys - an undead basement key, which opened up a kind-of shortcut and a new area, and a "mystery key", which opens I dunno what, but it's not the door on the first floor of the tower before the Taurus demon.
Attempt 11, got the Silver Knight's ring. The last one was easy.
Turns out I should have had more faith in my shield. Welp, live and learn.
I love this ring. It's boosting my
Max equip load from 49 to 73 right now.
It's so hard to adjust to shields not being totally useless coming from demon's souls, i think i've died quite a few times when i would have lived if i'd just trusted in my shield instead of trying to roll away and taking a stab to the back

undead burgh, the tower with the minotaur boss dude on top of it, if you open a door at the bottom and go down instead he's waiting for you. master key required until mid game
Yar, I just went down through the door and met some new friends. Interesting fellows.
Location of Silver Knight:
Remember the tower in the Burg you went up to fight the Tauros demon? Well straight through the base there's a door that leads down. At the bottom is a knight who drops a feather weight ring. It's also an entrance to the forest. I don't know which key you need to get through, though, because I took the Master Key as my gift.
-The item is called Havel's Ring, if you'd like to look it up.

If you don't mind me prying can you tell me where you found this guy to fight him? In spoilers please, for the sake of the rest of the thread.
I could REALLY use some more max equip load.
Zek: I can't comment on how well a light melee character plays out in the long run, but, I can say as a character who sucks at melee (caster) but still gets forced into it a lot that you'll probably be better off circling strafing your enemies and blocking when you need to in order to set up backstabs instead of using the actual dodge button. Since you have a high dex you'll circle strafe plenty fast, and you can always block while strafing to be nice and safe. Also, high dex dovetails nicely into bows.
Edit: Never mind, I see my question has already been answered. Now that's efficiency.!

I am pretty sure it's King's Field. Demon's Souls has been compared to that game, but I never played it, so no idea.
Well, dark souls doesn't have levels (ie stages) and I haven't seen any rating skills so I guess that drawback isn't in this one.
Demon's Souls has been described as a spiritual successor to King's Field, they are from the same developer, after all.

Atlus confirmed them for another year
How come its so easy to fall off cliffs? Can you not see that you're on a cliff?
Tunnel vision + wanting to dodge an attack from an enemy = rolling straight off of a cliff into a pit.
It's particularly easy when three skeletons are attacking you and three undead are raining firebombs on you. I know from experience...
Pyromancy apparently scales off of no stats

Having a little more variety in my repertoire than soul bolt and slower, more damaging soul bolt would be nice.
