Portland Pre-PAX Party 2010 - Sushi and Video Game Trivia!

(PSST - Read the IMPORTANT SUSHI NOTE below!!!)

Hey Portland PAXers! Wanna have a small meet up close to PAX Prime? It would be cool to meet some people before the insanity starts again. Last year The_Reflection got a bunch of people to go to Free Play night, which was awesome. I still think Ground Kontrol is a good idea, but there's another night that's Relevant to your Interests: the Video Game Quiz Show!

Here's my idea:

Thursday, 8/26, 8pm - Meet for sushi at Sushi Ichiban (24 NW Broadway.) They've got a good selection of sushi for both omnivores and herbivores for cheap.

Afterward (10pmish), go to Ground Kontrol (511 NW Couch St.) for the Video Game Quiz Show. It's a couple rounds of pub quiz style video game trivia followed by a Jeopardy! style game show (complete with buzzers!)

Who's in? Let me know if you're in for one or both. All-ages welcome at Sushi Ichiban, 21+ only at Ground Kontrol (after 5pm.)

Hope some of you are into it!

FULL DISCLOSURE: Yes, I work at Ground Kontrol, but I'm not trying to be slimy or trick anyone into going - I really think this would be fun for all.

First round of sushi ordered! If you didn't get your order in, don't worry, I don't think you'll have any problem getting some food right away.

Other menu items: They do also have a few types of hum bao, yakisoba/udon noodles, miso, etc. That stuff is made to order, so just order that when you arrive.

    I think this sounds like a blast. I just hate that its a weeknight (4:45 alarm is such a PITA and is the main reason I haven't made it to VG trivia yet)

    I think a get together some some form pre-PAX would be fun though.

    Myself and a few friends made it to the Portland meet up at Ground Kontrol last year and it was a blast. Only a handful of PAX'ers ended up showing up though, or at least at the time we were there. I am quite positive that we would be down for this as well, sounds like a good time.

    Now I just need to find my Ground Kontrol pin from last year so I can sport it this year!

    Hey Art, on the topic of GK, when do you guys get the money from the Stride contest? I am itching to see some new happenings down there!

    We haven't officially received the Stride check, but it's in the works. Our remodel plans are still forming, but you can see a preliminary concept here. We hope to start mid-Fall and be done ASAP, closing as little as possible during normal business hours!

    Ha ha ha, I just came on to make a topic putting together another Portland pre-pax party.

    I'm in, lets do this!

    Also, art, last year Anamanaguchi played a show right before PAX at GK. They said on their facebook page that they're playing in Portland before PAX. Is it at GK again?

    Talked to Wife and unfortunately with it being a thursday night, for sure she will not make it.

    I need to calculate vacation hours and see if I want to take that Friday off (give me time to pack all the stuff I need for a week in Seattle LOL)

    Totally want to do some kind of get together though.

    Unfortunately, the Anamanaguchi show is at Berbati's Pan. I did try to contact their booking agent, but never heard back, then I saw the show announcement via Berbati's.

    I think it might afford them the flexibility of all-ages w/ bar for 21+, plus it's a bigger / "real" venue. They're probably too big now for Ground Kontrol's tiny stage!

    I'll still be there, of course, and I hope the dudes will come through the arcade and hang out.

    I'm totally in! And I should have Friday's off by then (yay for schedule changes!). I've never been to GK even though i've been wanting to go for forever, so I'm uber excited for this!

    My fiance and I usually go to last Wednesdays at GK, and the 26th is the day after a freeplay Wednesday. The meet-up last year was lots of fun, though, so we may end up switching it up this month to meet everyone.

    Alright - it's official!

    Anamanaguchi will be DJing and playing Rock Band with everyone during our weekly Rock Band night on Tuesday 8/31!

    Starts at 8:30pm, goes late.

    We'll have the new Scott Pilgrim game for play before Rock Band, too!

    So... guess that's our second pre-PAX meetup! And then Anamanaguchi plays Berbati's the next night.

    I'm going to be sick of you all before PAX even starts!
