Index Holdings, the current parent company of Atlus Japan, has decided to merge both Index (the mobile development division of Index Holdings) and Atlus (the Japanese game developer) into Index Holdings itself. Today they plan on having the meeting to approve the merger with the board of directors. The merger is planned to happen officially on 1st October 2010.
Basically what this means is that Atlus as a registered company will cease to exist, and it will be known in future as Index Holdings. It is currently unknown if they will keep the Atlus brand for use on games developed by the company, but technically nothing should change in terms of day-to-day business. The reasons given for the merger are to strengthen the overall management of the companies and to strengthen the value of the companies involved (by centralizing them into a single entity.
So the company is no longer named Atlus - hopefully they at least keep the name around for branding.
It's common business sense to stick with brand recognition.
I doubt it'll change much.
I agree, there's likely to be no real change at all, on our end - Index bought its majority share in 2007. It's not like Atlus did a 180 and started making kart racers and first person shooters back then. I expect Atlus will be the same super-awesome engine of swanky Japanese games it's always been.

I just found this hilarious P3 parody strip. I don't know who it's by, unfortunately. Contains major spoilers for P3:
I've been keeping up with this thread for a while--just got around to all the Hiimdaisy comics. Now I'm going to have to play Persona 3 and 4. God, see what you've all done to me?!

I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.

Yeah, I'm playing Nocturne right now if you want to talk about length. I'm, what--140, 150 hours in? Still just getting to the part where I can go to the Amala/Amara Temples, chase after Hijiri when Isamu pulls him into the network, or head over to Kabakuchi (spelling?) Prison to take on the Ja-Ack Frost or whatever he's called. Granted, I'm level 80, so I've spent some time grinding and fusing, but still.

I think the most that may happen is that we'll get a post or two from Bursar complaining about new branded office stationary.
I've probably left it on for an hour or three here and there, now that I think about it. I'm willing to bet that 120 hours of that are real play time. What can I say, I'm just slow with these things.
EDIT: Now that I'm thinking about it, should I be getting Holy Wrath in place of either Divine Shot or Deathbound? Seems like those are doing really well for me, so far. Freikugel (spelling?) is going to replace Divine Shot when I can get it, but for the time being I'm really digging it. Iron Claw was too inaccurate for my tastes. And is Megido/-dola/-dolaon worth putting on the MC? He's mostly physical at this point, but I feel like he should be a little more diversified and those are pretty universally damaging.

Why the hell would you grind to level 80 when you haven't even made it to the final dungeon? That's a waste of time. lol

Kind of funny how quick people were to claim this merger was the end of Atlus.

I wanted my Seraphs early. :P
Besides, from what I've seen, Yoyogi is a great place to grind, even end-game. Plus, I like the feeling that my grinding has served a greater purpose than end-game side quests.
Wow, I thought taking 80 hours to the end of the True Demon dungeon was going slow, even though a bunch of that was fusing and getting cash for fusing.
I might have put 150 hours into P3, but I remember getting home from work with the game still running at least once...

Yoyogi is fine, but the final dungeon's third section is much better.

Something that's been bugging me--how the hell do people get thousands of macca from the tunnels in the Amala Network? I've managed to locate a purple coin here and there, but I get hit with so many other obstacles in the process it's really kind of an even trade. Most money I've exited a tunnel with was about 400-something, and that's after trying to do it for a half an hour or so. Maybe there just isn't that much to be had in the transition from kalpa 1 to 2?
I can't even find the answer on GameFAQs, and I've been in the forums and everything. Could be I just need to look harder. I did find posts by CJ there, however.

Not that I know the answer, but believe it or not, CJ visits pretty much all the same sites as I do. I shit you not, it's almost like I'm stalking him, minus the creepy obsession that generally comes with actual stalking. Of course, he doesn't know who I am outside of PAF. :P

Helps if you have a demon with Victory Cry and Mediarahan waiting to heal you, because it will take a lot of time and pain to get down.
True, but once you get there you can just repeat it ad infinitum since the Warp Tunnels can never, ever kill you even if you hit a bunch of shit on the way down.

Not sure how this affects Atlus USA.

Yes. Atlus USA is a subsidiarity, and the main reason Atlus' last fiscal year was so good (Demon's Souls "surprise" hit ho!).

Ever wondered what a Persona 3 Maximum Douchebag Playthrough would be like?
Best part is that most of what's depicted is based directly on an in-game option.

And it reminds me when the hell is hiimdaisy going to continue her Persona 4 comic.

A large favour?

I was in the late sixties when I finished
I think my final save was 50-something, and that was with my level being somewhere around 80 and getting the True Demon ending.

It passes the time, but I can only tolerate the stupid for spurts here and there.
