Ok now that I've got that out of the way

Video of gameplay, some platforming and two treasure minigames

Videos at Gamespot showing off some of the different costumes

The bestest video
This isn't strictly a platformer. You move Wario left and right and make him jump and duck all with the D-pad. Lefties can opt to use the A, B, X and Y buttons for this functionality. Everything else is done with the stylus. You open treasure chests by tapping on-screen icons. You attack enemies and perform special skills by pointing at your intended target.

To get through a stage, you have to make use of Wario's transformation abilities. The demo included, in addition to the standard Thief Wario, Space Wario, Graffiti Wario and Dinosaur Wario. You change into these new forms by drawing a shape around your character. Dinosaur Wario is a caret, Thief Wario is a check, Space Wario is a circle, and so-forth.

All Warios have different abilities. Thief Wario moves and jumps faster than the other Warios and he attacks by directly charging at enemies. Space Wario shoots lasers and has floaty jumps. Graffiti Wario can draw doors and crates, with the player being responsible for actually drawing the shape in the desired location. Dinosaur Wario breathes fire.

Progressing through the demo stage required full use of the various Warios. Space Wario's lasers were used to blast platforms down from the ceiling and to take out pesky birds who didn't appear to be too fond of Wario. Graffiti Wario's drawing abilities were used to create new platforms in order to leap over tall obstacles.
Release date: March 3 or 5 depending on who you believe

If you watch the videos you will realize that this game is a freakin' Metroidvania. Metroidvaniario. The different outfits take the place of equipment like jump boots or rockets. Seems to have a decent amount of environment interaction, too.

Neat stuff.

Was this recently announced? I'd never heard anything about this, and the release date is very soon.

It sounds very cool. I can't watch the vids due to corp firewall, but I'll be checking this out when I'm home.

Actually it looks more like Blanka Wario. You use him in dark places to brighten things up.

This video at Youtube shows off all the powers in a row plus some other cool stuff. It really does remind me of a crazy Castlevania.

Weren't the Warioland games popular back in the day? And in any case, since then, Warioware has been a bastion of irreverent goofiness. Or is it not likely to be as goofy as Warioware...?

I'm excited for this game. I liked Wario Land II on the GB very much. It was a very solid platformer that I still play once or twice a year.

This was announced like two years ago but we haven't heard anything since until recently.

Personally, I'm psyched, as I need a good platformer.

At the same time this reminds me I really need to pick up WWTouched.

In Japan, crap is as much a reccurring theme in Wario games as garlic is. They just remove 90% of it in localisation process. It sneaks through in a few WarioWare games.

I have high, high hopes for this game.

I just realized this game is out in Japan like last week. It's been getting like zero attention, but think it looks good.

I've been waiting for more fully fledged games to integrate drawing on the touch screen a main part of the gameplay since Kirby Canvas Curse.

Every Wario game that exists is great at the very least. The only one a person could even concievably consider not fantastic is Wario Land 4, and the ONLY reason for that is because the game is so amazing that it's a huge disappointment that it has to end so quickly if you're not trying to collect everything.

Select 360 titles (DOA4, DOAX2, Lost Planet, Blue Dragon) have been popping up in the charts. It is really impressive for a western shooter though, especially one rated Cero Z.
