I would also like to remind our pilots that there have been exceptional feats of piloting on both side of this war. This isn't about your kill counts - this is about celebrating the temporary resurrection of the most epic mecha game in history. Try to keep the spirit of our event in mind - we'd like to be encouraged to do it again.

very true, maradine. I'd also like to thank my fellow arty pilots who dropped the chedder on on target very, very often with excellent calls from other teammates. I wouldnt be able to excel and win matches without my teammates.

Aye, this has been an awesome and incredible event guys! I'm so psyched that this was even able to occur at all, it is something unlike anything I've ever personally witnessed before in gaming.

Still more cookie brigadiering... I'm a bit worried that I may not actually get to participate in the campaign after all. =( But it's good to know that the free people of Hai Shi Dao are surviving!

Of course. Steel Battalion's resurrection for three days is a good thing. I have a question: Will our VTs from this campaign be transfer-able to any future campaigns that may take place in PAX? :p

P.S. It looks like the interest in the campaign has been very high, we have a lot of players sticking around for a match or two -- I've had to sit out of two consecutive matches as I type this because the teams have people who should get a shot to make their contribution to the campaign. I wonder if it will be possible to expand the Steel Battalion Metacampaign next year to 20 consoles (Two campaign 5vs5 rooms) in order to cope with demand.

I'm disappointed I wasn't able to play any campaign matches. I got bumped Friday and Saturday night, finally got to play 10 minutes Saturday night but it was just a practice skirmish. I won't have an opportunity to stop by today so that's it for my career this season. :(

Hopefully some better scheduling can be figured out for pilots. It's disappointing to be the only HSD pilot in the waiting area for 20 minutes then have 15 more show up 5 minutes before the next match and get bumped for them.

While I'm sad you couldn't get any stick time, PAX Isn't For Us. It's the tradeoff we make when donning the black badge.

If it's any consolation, none of my staff have played a single campaign match either.

I know, tradeoffs were made that left only a few opportunities to play, that isn't your teams fault. Your team did their best to make sure everybody got a chance to play. There were other people I spoke with over the weekend though that had similar experiences to me. Between all of the other cool stuff to do at PAX they only had a few opportunities to play, if they got bumped they would have to either wait and miss out on the next cool thing or just forget about it.

You guys know the best way to run the game. I was just thinking of some way to schedule yourself for the 7:45 match. If you're a no show your spot goes to whomever is waiting for standby. Maybe make it one registered spot per pilot a day. Lets people know they have at least one guaranteed time slot and they can still hang out for standby slots if they are hardcore.

Glorious victory for the Hai Shi Dao (and a Jaralaccs merc) with a very tense all or nothing final match!

I had an absolute blast playing with all my fellow VT pilots and I hope all of you who got a taste for it jump on ebay and get your own SB rigs. I look forward to hopefully seeing some new faces on lineofcontact.net and some new VT pilots to shove a cutter boom into on xlink. :D

And while I would say I can't wait to play next year at this, I'll instead be volunteering to help run it. I'll be keeping an eye out for the Enforcer thread. I'll probably have a second rig to donate as well.

    Well done Sirs!
    Well done!

I tip my hat to the Quartermaster and Faction Commanders, and all other Enforcers who spent THEIR time to make this happen. You guys are amazing, I enjoyed every aspect of how you guys performed your job and set up this event. I appreciate soo much the time and effort you all spent to make this happen.
From answering over and over "What is this?" to "What time are you off break?" I recognize it is not an easy job, and I a want you to know your efforts and time have not been wasted, we owe you for a truly amazing experience.

To the Pilots, please take you time to thank these guys, wether you got time to play or not.
Please also remember to treat your fellow pilots with respect, and play with honor and integrity.

I had an amazing time and I hope I get the chance to fire a shot off at all of you on a battle field of VTs someday soon.

    PRF, well fought guys!
HSD, way to turn it out in the end!

    POTATO SALAD!!!!!

    P.S.
Enforcers if you find a sweet pair of mirrored aviators (not in spectacular condition) they are mine, so if there is a way to get them back I would appreciate the chance too!

    Good evening all.

What a ride! From Hellweek to that tense last run, it was a rollercoaster.

Many thanks to the Organizers for putting this on, it was a very cool experience and something I hope to get to do again. (Possibly sooner than later if I can scrounge cash to buy up an old controller.) I wish I got more stick with my Garpikes, but I'm glad the last kill of the campaign was with the beloved Bang Needle. Also, redeeming one's self by scoring the killing blow on an Earthshaker helps 8-)

And once, I will extend my apologies for getting over emotional with the headset this morning. I tend to throw myself into games and getting hit like that must've gotten me pretty hard.

Otherwise though, once more, excellent time, kudos to Ben and Kemper for marshaling the HSD into a fighting force.

PRF, thanks for the matches, you put up a great game and did well.

Good to hear that the Hai Shi Dao are victorious today. While I wanted to be there for the last battle, I knew to let the better players achieve victory for us. It was an awesome experience and I hope to see it again next year at PAX Prime (this time with a full understanding of the game).

Enforcers, you made this event! Without you folks we wouldn't have had the leadership to do this right. And thanks to all who donated the use of their Steel Battalion systems.

Perhaps we should attempt to organize a meta campaign in Seattle again, before PAX?

Thank you all for taking so much time during the convention to keep coming back and playing campaign all weekend. Although Friday was a bit rough for HSD, a lot of the matches were fairly close over the weekend, and it was great to see all of you excitedly running up to the front desk to ask the campaign score.

I wish to heartily thank all the enforcers that helped organize this. I spent the majority of my PAX time at the Steel Battalion booth, and I do not regret a second of it. The fact that I went from playing it for the first time Friday afternoon to racking up kills, finding and piloting an Earth shaker on Sunday is due entirely to the helpfulness of Those That Organized. Also Mara's expression of shock when I showed him the Earth shaker token and asked "How do pilot" will stay with me for a while. :D

P.S. Ben decided to call the Gauss EMP "Potato Salad". We needed a code name.

I'm also glad that I was able to help train new pilots on Saturday afternoon. I have learned my lesson, and next time will make sure I can stay through to the end, because apparently I missed a good match. Glad to hear the capitalist pig dogs saw the true power of the Hai Shi in the end.

tl,dr: Thank you all very much for a truly memorable experience. If at all possible, I'll be back next year.

Apparently there's a memory card and a copy of Mechassault involved in cracking the game. There's a card or two being passed around the LoC community and I'm sure if you ask on LoC or get in touch with Titan or Notorious Ben they can get you pointed in the right direction (there is going to be a waiting list I'm sure, I know I'm next on it).

And yes, massive amounts of thanks to the enforcers that made this happen and I very much look forward to volunteering my time to make this happen next year. I'll have an entire year between now and then to play the hell out of SB online and run the campaign a few times so I'll be very capable of running the training, answering questions, donating a stick, etc.

And remember: When you need to get shit done, accept only the best. Jaralaccs Mercenaries - We're here to help you for the right price.

Yes, I want to thank Maradine and the organizers of this Metacampaign for bringing this about in all its epic glory.

Before everyone says that the HSD victory was all me, I want to say that it was my *teammates* that put me there. Sure, I may be good with the sniper rifle, but we have tons of players who stepped up and dropped the hammer on the PRF advance. Every match that I played Sunday only saw me 1 or 2 kills while other snipers or arty pilots racked 3 or 4 kills.

My teammates executed their roles with distinction, and Im proud because I couldnt have done it without them.

All that aside, I will *NOT* pick sides for the next Metacampaign that happens. If Maradine allows, I would like to hire myself out as a Jarallacs/Right Brothers Merc that can only be used once per turn or day.

As far as that whole potato salad thing...
we werent sure if the EMP would shoot through walls. Since it had a charge up time, we used a code word to start the charge up sequence that wouldnt/shouldnt be said in the heat of battle. Hence "Potato Salad".

9 Vitzhes vs. 1 Earthshaker. City Map. It took 28 Vitzh to put that monster down.

It was after the last campaign match. Mara saddled up on the 'shaker and 9 of us hunted him down over map 8. That thing could move when it went to wheels. Seriously felt like an epic match up. Felt my heart skip a couple times when I saw Gauss tingle on my screen, and I got a couple congrats for going toe to toe close range with the 'shaker in my little Vitzh.

    DOOOOOOOOO EEEEEEEEEEEET

And yeah, that last Earthshaker shootout fest was just epic as hell. I managed to get behind Mara at the beginning and get some good shots in his direction, but then it just fail cascaded after he finally turned and got me. I guess even when Vitzh Ninjaing properly, there are just some fights you can't win, lol.

I want to thank all of the players for coming out and participating in creating such a massive assault on the defense budgets for the PRF and HSD - it was spectacular to see people outside the campaign HQ rallying, and even mores to see everyone huddling up to strategize before each match.

I would also like to again thank the Enforcers running this - I know you guys were working nonstop through the entire weekend with very short breaks. From the Faction Commanders to the Boot Camp Instructors, to your support teams, I cannot thank you guys enough for busting your humps to make this thing happen.

As for Maradine, well...mostly I want to say thanks for getting the 9v1 match up after I asked, and creating an extremely effective Vitzh Ninja training session.

...plus I was in tears laughing every time a swath of Vitzhs shut down from your weapons fire :)

I hope things are looked upon favorably by the PAX gods, and we get to see MetaCampaign v2.0 at PAX East/Prime next year....and many more beyond.

I'd like to chime in as well. Even though I didn't get to play as much as I would have liked (I missed what sounded like some awesome shennanigans end of sunday), I still had a blast. And I was surprised at how much I still remembered, even though it had been at least a year since my last SB outings.

This was such a blast. I've wanted to play SB for years, and it was so worth it. Probably my favorite thing at PAX. My thanks to everyone who worked to make this such an amazing experience, especially the vets both for helping train us rookies and for being patient as we learned the ropes in our early matches. Such an awesome game, I may not be able to wait until the next PAX to play again. Time to start checking ebay I guess.

Having only ever gotten a chance to play Steel Battalion for the first time on the handful of sets at last PAX, this campaign utterly blew me away and sucked up probably half of my time there.

It was completely worth it. Flying a Behemoth with a dedicated team was an amazing experience.

I wish I could have been there for the last round, but I really wanted to catch closing ceremonies. The final challenge was surprisingly nerve wrecking for the audience. :)

Does anyone know if I will need a 'modified' version of LOC to do proper linked system play, or does only the person launching the game need it?

I'm not sure about campaign play, but for System Link battle royal matches, you don't need to modify anything. What you WILL need is to get your game unlocked so that you can use all of the mechs.

    Hey everyone,

Just wanted to throw in some immense thanks to all the organizers of this fantastic event. I'd always been interested in this game, but there was such a barrier to entry that it just never happened until this weekend. In the end, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had while playing a video game. I was so psyched to see the last Sunday assault go through after taking part in two of the point matches for the day.

I shall be returning to a Hai Shi Dao Behemoth next year and hopefully getting set up with my own controller and game in the mean time.

    Completely random thought:

Best Case Scenario: Capcom announces Steel Battalion sequel complete with new controllers for Xbox 360/PS3 in 2011.

Next-Best Case Scenario: Capcom caves in to demand and ports Steel Battalion to the PC with multiplayer support in 2011.

Next-Worst Case Scenario (still good, IMO): Capcom doesn't do development on a SB port or sequel. Steel Battalion PAX Meta-Campaign continues!

Worst Case Scenario: Meta-Campaign doesn't continue in 2011, Xlink Kai dies.

Apocalyptic-Case Scenario: The world's old Xboxes melt down, a worldwide EM burst from Mother Nature's Earthshaker (the Sun) fries the old Steel Battalion controllers, and our Line of Contact discs are rendered unreadable by some freak phenomena.

    Heh, that's an understatement.

I'd volunteer to be an enforcer next year, but due to a wedding next September whose date I'm not sure of yet I'll hold off on that for now. If I am able to make it out to PAX next year, however, I'd like to volunteer to be the HSD commander, or to be a Right brother or Jaralaccs. That way, I'll make room for the others that did not get so much time this round, and can still be involved somehow.
