So I got placed in bronze league. Doesn't the ranking at least try to determine how well you performed in the games, or is it just based on win/loss. I really felt like I was playing incredibly despite my retarded teammates. I was very disappointed to see all my hard work rewarded with "bronze league".

It's just win/loss, and in the case of random partners... it can put you in a tough spot. I know in the beta, I was ranked in Bronze (back when there was a Copper) in 2v2 and that resulted in some of the WORST partners out there. The only way to claw your way back up was through lucky wins, lucky partners, or outplaying the other team 2v1 if you were partnered up with someone who only had 9 probes.

1v1 on the other hand or an arranged team of 2v2... that's where the system actually works. In 1v1 retail I was placed in Silver and climbed into Platinum soon enough (where I'm now getting spanked, or at least I was this weekend). It adjusts quickly and seems pretty spot-on.

I feel like ranting a bit.

I FINALLY did my placement matches and ended up in gold. I was crazy surprised by that (as I expect silver or bronze for sure).

Afterward I decided to place in 2v2. So I played and I'm not gonna lie, I got teamed up with some HORRIBLE players. I only managed to win 2 of the 5 games. 1 of those wins came with a teammate that had only 9 probes the entire game. Seriously, I'm at almost 50 scvs with two expansion bases and hes got 9 probes, pumping out stalkers at a crazy slow rate. We almost lost when the other team came at us with battle cruisers and thors but I just barely managed to hold on out with bcs of my own (thank god I had yamato cannon and he didn't).

I felt really good about that game, but it kept happening. I kept getting teamed up with guys who were afraid to even build a second base, and although I felt like I played really well and at least made the games close, I just couldn't outproduce two opponents and lost three other games.

So I got placed in bronze league. Doesn't the ranking at least try to determine how well you performed in the games, or is it just based on win/loss. I really felt like I was playing incredibly despite my retarded teammates. I was very disappointed to see all my hard work rewarded with "bronze league".

Its based on win/loss. Also not to rain on your parade but at this stage people who are playing placement matches are going to be a much low caliber player in general. All the good people and probably most of the beta people most likely did their matches within the first 5 or 6 days

Based strictly on whether or not your team wins or loses. There's no individual performance considered. The issue is that it matches random team players like yourself with arranged teams, which ends up being a total crapshoot whether you get a kick-ass teammate or someone just playing casually.

No. If someone is a RealID friend they'll see me no matter what Blizzard game I log into. I just want some people to be Starcraft 2 friends and only Starcraft 2 friends.

Okay then yeah, that's pretty dumb. I could have sworn that earlier on in the last thread some people mentioned setting status to away and appearing to be offline to their friends, but if that's not possible then I can see the problem.

Not sure if I'm implicitly a target of this salvo or not, but keep in mind all I bitched about was the shitty interface for adding character friends and Blizzard's apparent head in the ass. I'm not complaining at all about RealID, just saying why it's not what I need and that character friends are, except that they bobbled something so simple.

I guess, but because I've always thought my worst ability was in the middle game, when there's so much to do it's overwhelming, I played all 50 practice matches just so the game would be forced to go into the middle. I think it helped, too. I went 34 and 16 in the practice matches and got much more comfortable with expanding and harassing in the middle game.

You could be right, though. We'll see if I start getting destroyed in gold league.

Woo, I feel awesome right now because I just scouted a early pool in ZvT and went 2 Gates instead of early CyCore. Repelled the attack, got Warp Gates, massed a small force, scouted his expansion, and moved in for the kill. Feels great after losing to early cheese a few times already today.

I would really like to know your TvZ build that involves you building warp gates and a cycore :P

Bronze rank represent. Went 1-4 in my placement matches, the good news is I left like they were all pretty close games and that with a few minor changes I would have had a better chance winning them.

Play a few ranked games this morning and went 2-1 and felt like I did pretty good. My one loss was to an proxy cannon rush. I didn't even have any units out yet.

Best way to fight this off is to literally pull all your miners and bash in the warping in cannons until you have a unit to stop it. If you stop them doing this, it's almost an automatic win, even with you losing 30-45s of mining trying to fight it off. It's so all in for them, you can usually just out macro them once you have it stopped.

If the cannons are already up, your workers will die taking out the pylon. You have to get the cannons as they are still in the warp in state. A ball of probes/scvs/drones will actually kill a warping in cannon very fast. Go after the pylon once you have a real attack unit.

You can't let them get a cannon, or you're likely fucked. If they do get a cannon up, your best bet is to try and make a b-line for Immortals (if you play Protoss, not sure what you can do as T/Z).

Just played a really nice game on Kulas Ravine. PvZ, mostly roaches/hydras/lings vs. my stalkers, sentries, zealots, and eventually colossus. Repelled a couple close attacks with good scouting, but probably should have scouted his expansions sooner, since I knew he didn't take his natural. Please critique! I feel like this may be one of the better games I've played so far.

Moreover, your barracks should already be building (or done) and as soon as it's done, get marines out to kill the probe. Then, you just put your SCVs back to mining as your marines kill the pylon.

This is basically what I do as Protoss. If I see a cannon rush starting, I'll have my probes kill any warping in cannons, then once I have a Zealot up, I'll take out the Pylon. It's work pretty reliably for me so far.

There is a certain stigma that, though often untrue, holds firm regarding gamers. The stereotype of the unambitious, antisocial video gamer living in his mom's basement is alive and well. Though I may be anything but, there's an association that can be formed and I don't care for that to spill over into my professional life.

A good example is my best friend from college who just picked up Starcraft 2. When I logged on, he was on my Friends List along with the information that he was playing the singleplayer campaign. But then it specified further: "6 hours". Now, he may have left the computer on while stepping out, might have been actually playing the game for only three of those hours, or hell, he could have been there chomping merrily through the campaign for the entire time. Regardless of the case, that information is plastered up there for all to see.

Will that have any impact? Nah, probably not. But I also know I wouldn't want my boss (or my boss's boss) privy to details about how much time I spend on the computer. It's none of his business.

I know what you mean, my mom is (more or less, since I dont actually have a basement) living in my basement until she's rebuilt her savings but people hear that I'm a gamer and live with my mom and the mental picture draws itself

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a way to add people to your vanilla friends list in Starcraft 2. You don't have to be RealID friends with them. You can be friends in the old, simple way: they see your display name (Dudezors420,etc) and your offline/online status. This list does not carry across other games.

    What's the problem?

Zerglings are super scary to stalkers, even with blink and micro zerglings are so damn cost-effective they're the bane of stalkers everywhere.

Sentries are a bigger threat, they give stalkers the support they need to deal with zerglings. Scout aggressively and try to ambush stalkers on the move instead of fighting them at chokes. Be ready to pull back from a fight if sentries block your lings, no reason to fight through a forcefield choke if you don't have to.

Banelings really tear up zealots. Hydralisks are great against stalkers. Roaches are pretty good overall. You've got alot of options, I think any protoss ground without colossi or sentry support is pretty easy to deal with as zerg, so you need to build your army and plan your strategy around those two units.

There is no mutal friend thing if you do this, so he has to give everyone his RealID number and they have to give him theirs.

But IIRC, come to think of it, you could always just have one side message and/or play with the other, and add them that way (I think you can right click the name or something?)

What is this 1-1-1 build you speak of? The terran barracks, factory, starport mech build?

    Yes.

I haven't encountered them much, but are the Battle Cruisers ever worth it? The few times I've encountered them, I've taken them down pretty quickly with Vikings. Can they end up being useful in the end-game?

    Yes.

I thought it's universally excepted name was the MorroW build? But I guess Divine Cloud Fist works.

Generally. 1-1-1 is just barracks then factory then starport, usually in quick succession. Done for the purposes of any number of things, but frequently for a quick Raven, quick banshees, quick dropships for a drop, etc.

Yes. Though if using them against terran it's important you also have a bigger viking army, or else your cruisers will go down quick.

Just had yet another PvT loss on Metalopolis, bronze league. I play as random so it's always a bit tough to get an idea ahead of time of what to do, but here I think I actually did alright at not falling victim to his bioballs. Anyway here's the replay and any advice, specifically on what sort of units I should be making to counter this sort of thing would be very appreciated.
