Wait like, if I flip the toggle that de-allies me with an ally, I can get banned?

That's some bullshit right there. Not that I ever would really, but are teams locked down in league matches? Can you even do that or do you have to manually attack everything?

Pretty sure you have to manually attack.

But like I said, it wasn't a league game. Getting banned would be kind of silly. It would also suck as he was playing on my other friend's account.

I really doubt blizzard would ban you for team attacking in a 3v3, the guy in that article just merely says they have the power to if they so desire.

We can lock down a Battle.net account when it happens but if you do something goofy in a game (like Backstabbing, poor Mugaro), we can apply temporary or permanent bans on just the game itself depending on severity.

He is saying bans can occur, and he gives backstabbing as an example. No one is saying it will happen because you did it once, I am just saying it is a bannable offense.

I read the quote, it says they can, not they will. It also says depending on the severity of the offense. Also I think it is completely retarded that they would ban you for backstabbing. I mean seriously its a video game. Let people do what they want as long as they arent hacking the game.

You think Bliz is going to bother watching a bunch of replays and handing out bans based on gameplay? Right. "He attacked me ban him!" "He walled us in with pylons, I kinda needed to get out of the base."

Yes, grief to your hearts content, as long as you aren't hacking the game.

Give me a break. For as long as I can remember, there are rules and policies in every online game that outline proper behaviour in said game. Yes, it's a video game, but you're playing with other people. When your idea of fun encroaches on someone else's, that's a problem.

Maybe not ban, but suspend them for a few hours/days if the action is continual. Hopefully that would discourage that behavior, but an all out ban is simply a bad idea.

I suppose I will go for an early double gas then to get a greater number of marauders in my force along with getting a couple of ghosts. I guess unless I scout a Stargate, Marine numbers can be kept to a minimum.

You just need to get your 2nd gas when your orbital is building to more than afford marines, 1 ghost, and a few marauders early game. Marauders hardly cost any gas.

It's not like Blizzard has an entire department of employees whose job it is to monitor the behaviour of people playing an online game and punish those who act out of line.

    Oh wait. World of Warcraft.

You're right, it's logistically impossible to punish/deter griefing in an online game.

Your build seems different than the one I do (I like Silver's opening)

I push out with 10-11 marines, 1 ghost, and 1-2 marauders. If the protoss is building units and micros well (namely, spreads out his units), he can hold this off but you kill a good portion of his army. If the protoss is teching or doing things like going straight to void rays, he's in trouble.

Someone must've not notified the constant stream of people in randoms who actively try to fuck your group by pulling extras onto tanks they don't like.

Also, there are currently ~41000 games of Starcraft 2 being played AT THIS MOMENT. Assuming 1 out of 100 gets reported for some kind of griefing (some would say that's a gross underestimate), that's 410 problematic games. Every half hour or so.

And if that number goes up to 2 out of every 100? That's DOUBLE that number.

Seriously the logistics are ridiculous. Only the most DIRE offenders with many reports on them will get flagged so that Blizzard doesn't have to deal with situations like someone getting reported just because they beat their opponent and got called a hacker.

There are millions of people playing WoW every minute of every day, and yet there is still a force of employees who is able to handle enforcement.

Like any reporting tool, it's repeat offenders that will be reviewed. Having one person report you for backstabbing isn't going to do much, but if you do it often and they see several reports for one account, that's when they look.

Like I said, doing something stupid once isn't going to matter, but it's naive to think that because there are so many people playing the game that griefing/trolling is going to go unpunished. If you read the Starcraft 2 B.net policy for infractions, it specifically lays out all of the punishments, from warnings to flat out account closure.

I don't think it's unreasonable to imagine that if you are a repeat offender you're going to find yourself with warnings/24 hour suspensions/etc.

Right. You should really never expect a response anyway. I'm just saying it's a reportable offense, like any other. If I reported you for a few racial slurs in a game, you'd probably never see any action either.
