The compass is pretty sweet, it actually turns in your hotbar without having to hold it. It's handy for getting back to spawn now that you can't rejoin to get there in multiplayer, but it would be way more useful if you could change your spawn point.

Yea, lava buckets seem like they would be a better fuel source if you didn't lose the bucket really

Lava is finite, the springs don't refresh themselves.

    Even at the lava sea?

The lava sea got replaced by a hole to nothingness.

Yeah I guess that still works, but it'll probably be removed eventually.

Oh man, I haven't played since shortly after SMP came out, how're things lately? I doubt my little boathouse (or even the server save itself) are still there.

Ok, instead of lava sea I meant the large lava pockets you occasionally find underground or do those not work either?

Hmm, so does anyone know if creatures stay spawned even if no one's around? That incident with the spider, followed by a spider getting stuck in my building, makes me want to turn my building into a zoo. It's just the right size for it.

Creatures despawn. You'd have to build a cage around a mob spawner in order to make a "zoo"

ok well what i meant was get dwarf fortress like gravity, where it would check to see if it would fall

it wouldn't make stone like sand, it would just make everything but obsidian not able to float

he talked about it once, he didn't say he WOULD do it but he said he considered it once

No, notch has talked about blocks collapsing unless they were somehow indirectly tied to obsidian. Probably bedrock too I would imagine. It seems like that would be a really expensive algorithm to figure that out on the fly though.

Very expensive, especially since the world is built into chunks. You'd have to perform "attachment" calculations across chunks as they loaded, which would really choke world generation (given how hard it has to work now). Is it possible? I suppose only Notch really knows, but I'm not sure it's worth the performance hit.

Hey when I run a server, and then i close the server, how do i keep it from generating a new map over my old server file?

Every time i run the server app my old map gets replaced!
