They should. If you stand underneath a block with a skeleton arrow in it and then remove the block, the arrow will fall on you and hurt you. I'd imagine it'd work for enemies as well.

Holy crap I just had the most epic game. Although I think it's pretty much the norm for Minecraft. Dug really deep, found a huge cave system, explored the whole thing, got myself a ton of redstone and my first diamond pick. I marked the entire cave structure off with lights and stone block markers to help get back out.
I had no idea a game that looked like this could be so intense.
HOLY CRAP! The stuttering I was experiencing in certain areas is GONE! My underground park is no longer horrifically glitching to the point of rendering the game unplayable!
This is honestly the only change in the patch I actually care about.

Then you have not spent enough time in the Dick Mines mining for stone and diamond in SMP.

A pretty awesome night of Minecraft on Diannochong's server. The biggest highlight I think was the mystery of the Furnace Thief!
As the night wore on, more and more players started complaining about their furnaces disappearing. At first we thought it might be some sort of bug, little did we know how wrong we were!
(Story follows in spoilers, with pics!)
The Place: Flagbearer's house
Diannochong checked in on the house sometime after one it's many many furnaces had been stolen to find that a long tunnel had been dug into the floor of the house. At the end of the tunnel was a storage room literally riddled entirely with stolen furnaces and workbenches.
The thoughtful thief was even kind enough to leave a sign at the entrance to the tunnel:
We never did figure out who the thief was, but I tip my hat to you good sir :-D

Yeah furnace thief was epic. People would make new ones, and then they would dissapear too.
Awesome time on the server, I think I peaked at like 8-10 users. There was a small bit of time where things got laggy, but we were really kicking ass and working together on stuff.
I..... I can't hear that song without imagining Armageddon and people exploding into primordial ooze and children going insane. It's a little troubling.
Would anyone be interested if I set up a new Underdark server tonight?
For those of you who missed the first time, the Underdark (welcoming better names) server is planned to be an extreme survival experience where all the players are dumped deep inside an absolutely colossal cave system with a tiny patch of trees and grass, and are then forced to grow their own trees and grass and fight off neverending hordes of monsters as they struggle to clear out and bring light further and further into the surrounding caves.
This new SMP stuff- chests, mobs, inventory, is fantastic. And the community feel-good way zetx's server is atm is fantastic. There's a chest near the spawn full of pickaxes, with a sign telling you to grab some!
Visiti and I had a huge underground trip. Probably took 20 min to go from one end to the other. Got like 20ish diamonds, like 1000 stone and a bunch of other stuff. I forgot just how fun mining can be!
How do mobs work at the moment? Notch's post gave me the impression that you could not kill them which sounds bad.
You can drown them (maybe) and burn them. And they die in sunlight. They chase you around, but I'm not sure if they really hurt you (didn't try). Creepers are still creepers. That's about it.

I was thinking it woudl be really cool if you could get enchanted tools or something. Like a pickaxe that doesn't just take out 1 block, but takes out either a line of 4 or takes out a 3x3 cube of blocks. Would be pretty cool. Maybe like making a normal pick, but putting gunpowder in the mid level left and right sides so it causes a directed explosion on use.
All right, I am starting the server now, but I will only be able to be on for like half an hour. I will keep the server up tonight but if someone could come on now to see that everything is working that would be great.
