You'll probably have to experiment. I usually just dump a bucket of water on top of a complex landscape, and the infinite elevation property of water usually generates a few squares of eternally replenishing water. I'm assuming magma works with the same rules.

someday he should make quicksand something you can make with a bucket of water sand and clay, that lets you have a bucket that you can place a Quicksand source... man i'd have a trap room that fills with sand in my castle so fast

I corrected it and it does work with an Android. (Using the ZXing or whatever)
Also, is there a website with a library of skins? I kinda want a custom one, but I'm far too lazy to actually make my own.
First time I was in my inventory, and heard the SSSSSSS, died in cave and lost a lot of iron.
Second time was coming out of my protective building, the creeper was already heading down my outside stairs after I went through the door. I was left with half a heart, and the entire front of the building was gone.
Then boom.
In Wurm Online, which Notch worked on before, if you made roads, that was faster to walk on than on plain dirt. Different refined grades made you walk faster, to the point where you could outrun some enemies that were running towards you from the grassy areas.
I think this would be good in Minecraft, as it would encourage roads in multiplayer, instead of just random buildings in the middle of nowhere. Roads are the glue of civilization.
In Wurm we put sand on the sides of slab highways, which slows the monsters even further, and stopped trees from growing on the sand banks. Hopefully he adds a few things like that he developed for Wurm.

WHY DO I GET THE REFERENCE TO THE SOURCE COMIC THAT WAS GOD AWFUL.
As I've stated before, I plan on running a dedicated server once SMP turns stable.
I've got some things planned for the server, and I'd appreciate if you all could take a few minutes to answer some questions.
Also, if anyone has any similar ideas, I'd be more than glad to hear them out. Hit me up with a PM, and if I'll think it's feasible, I'll update the form with appropriate questions.

Oh man, a non-cheat server would be fantastic once the SMP is truly playable.

I think that if Notch added full-on changing biomes after SMP was finalized it would really make the world awesome, because it
1) adds ambience and different features as you explore
2) adds trade/challenges to get certain materials
I envisage sand becoming a lot scarcer along rivers, but desert towns trade sand by the chestful.
Trees don't grow in the desert, but cacti do
forested areas have a lot of trees and dirt, but poor mineral content.
Mountains have a lot of minerals, but little wood.
Snowy areas
some kind of volcanic area where lava abounds on the surface, but everything else is toast.
Also, have certain areas spawn different monsters, so that, for instance, you have to settle in this kind of hellish world in order to go out hunting creepers for gunpowder to make tnt.
Biomes alone would make this game playable for years as a real survival game and not just building stuff.
EDIT: Also, the repository for surplus materials to be used on community projects should be called the Church of Notch, and the first thing all materials should be directed towards is building a church/deposit building in each city, with a mega vault in the city at/near the spawn point.
