Also, I'm having a hell of a fucking time finding an iphone 4. For two weeks now I've called two dozen stores twice a day and they never have them. They're also lying to me sometimes. My calls go like this:
"Do you have any Iphone 4s?"
"Can you tell me when you last got a shipment?"
Sometimes, the store will say they got a shipment the day before or a few days before... when I called that day and they said there was no shipment. I feel like calling up customer retention and going nuts because it's clear that the store employees are being douches about this shortage.
You may be surprised. Around where I am, the Apple Stores have a certain inventory for tech support but are otherwise out of stock. Ditto for the AT&T stores (well, none for tech support; I was told to go to an Apple Store when I had issues). I ended up just ordering one when I set up an account with AT&T. I got an email chain of tracking notifications and in about two weeks I had a shiny new phone. The anticipation was HORRIBLE but it was worth it; and a lot easier for me than calling and driving all over God's creation looking for one in-stock.
In short, bite the bullet and order one. Shipping is free if it's sent to the store and they will notify you when it comes in. Think of it this way: you've already wasted this much time chasing down one in-stock.

Crazy how hard they are to find. When I was on vacation in Florida a month ago I needed a a new iPhone to replace the 3G i walked into the ocean with. I called four stores down there (1 Apple store and 3 AT&T). One of the AT&T stores had a single iPhone 4. I sped over there and picked up the last iPhone 4 available in a large radius.
When we wanted to get an iPhone 4 for my wife a few weeks ago, we called a few Apple and AT&T stores and all were out of stock. So we just went to the closest AT&T store, ordered one, and 4 or 5 days later the store called to say it came in.
I think your best bet is to just order one and wait a few days.

You can't order a phone here. It's first come, first served.

Really? Is that an Apple store or AT&T store? i would imagine any AT&T store would allow the same orders.
Sadly, my first play was Dora The Explora (I thought it would be ironic and funny), so now all my recommendations are going to be kids' shows, just watch.

I'm in Canada.
In a last ditch effort today before starting to line-up outside Apple stores a few days a week, I called a few more stores outside the 25km radius I had set. One store said a truck just came in with some stuff and he'd check. He came back to tell me there we 2 16gb phones. According to Apple policy they had to follow, apparently, they couldn't hold it for me... even if I gave him credit card information over the phone.
I asked this before, but is there an app that lists everything I downloaded and transferred into my phone into a handy chart, with the size listed for each app/song/whatever?
My phone is at its limit, and knowing how much each program is taking up would help fix the clutter much easier.
Just a reminder that the free case program is ending soon. So... smoke 'em while you got 'em.
I got the clear InCase one and love it. Doesn't do anything to protect the screen so we'll see about that. it did come with a little plastic stand, though...
The wife also picked some clear stand but she hasn't gotten hers yet...
The advertised program is ending but if you call Apple and say you are experiencing antenna issues, they will still send you a free case. Im not sure if you will have the same selection though.
Every iPhone 4 owner is eligible for a free case (there are like eight to choose from) or i believe a reimbursement up to a certain amount if you already bought a case.

This is true. The deadline has already passed for iPhone 4s purchased earlier. According to Apple's site:
For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. To qualify for this program, you must purchase your iPhone 4 by September 30, 2010.

Strange question. I often (90% of the time) have my iPhone 4 on silent. Is there any sort of app that will sync it with my MacBook Pro where maybe a Growl or something will show up on my Macbook Pro's screen when my iPhone rings?

Okay. I've had my iPhone for a few weeks now, and whilst it's been an unbelieveable source of cheap to free games, I've yet to find an app that is actually something useful in otherwise non gaming day to day life.
I ask you iPhone users, what non game apps do you have that have enriched your life?
Things - a todo/GTD app. You can probably find cheaper options that do much of the same stuff, but it syncs with the OS X version which is why I use it.
Reeder - frontend for Google Reader. I manage to make it crash every now and then, but still good.
MoneyWell - economy app to keep an eye on your accounts. Another app that works in tandem with the OS X version, I typically add stuff on the iPhone right in the store and then reconcile stuff on the Macbook once a week. The OS X version is the best home economy app I've tried - the iPhone app isn't all that useful on its own, but together they work really well.
ShoppingList simple but good-looking and functional shopping list app. This is the free version, I think the only difference between this and the paid version is that the paid version lets you make several lists so you don't get computer parts in your groceries or whatever.
Instapaper - I'm using the paid version, dunno what this free version is missing. Add a "Read later" bookmarklet to your browser, click it, and you get a text-only version of that web page in Instapaper. Great for having lots of reference stuff and articles available on the go.
Simplenote - a simple note app that syncs over the internet. Log in on the web site, write crap, have it on your iPhone. Or the other way around. I mainly use it to copy URLs to/from the iPhone.

Remote 2.0 is out, but when I download it, it doesn't look like the pictures on Engadget and Gizmodo, it just looks like my old version even though it says it's 2.0.
Evernote is fantastic, although it takes some time to really figure out how to integrate it into your workflow. My Evernote Premium/scanner/iPad combo is basically what's allowed me to go completely paperless.
I use it constantly for snapping pictures of serial numbers and Xenon debug screens, then I come back to my desk and inventory/configure the machines I've snapped pics of. I also use it when I'm out on the floor because people will make requests while I'm working on something else, so I'll make a quick note and when I get back to my desk I don't forget to help those people.

I use GoTasks, it does a pretty good job of creating lists and syncs with Google Tasks.

I dream of doing this but am too cheap/lazy to buy a scanner
I'm also afraid on having yet another thing I rely entirely on Evernote for
it's already my project tracking/notetaking/GTD/shopping list/text sharing/bookmark storage/recipe system

The professor in the class I'm currently taking likes to distribute handouts, but isn't very good about posting electronic copies to the course website. So I take a picture/scan of them in class with my phone (I grabbed some free scanning software (Genius Scan, I think?) to deal with page skew, but the default camera app would probably work just fine.), email them to my Evernote email address, and they're available on my phone/computer/iPad/toaster/etc. in moments. The OCRing really helped sell me on the concept, too.
Push email, really easy media sharing across all your Mac stuff, everything from contacts to bookmarks to system preferences sync able across multiple machines with no fuss, calendar with the same ease of use as exchange, remote wipe capabilities, find lost idevices with ease, and now the ability to easily work on iWork for iPad without syncing or emailing documents around.
If you need half the features listed it is worth it. But if you don't mind cobbling a bunch of other services together into a Frankenstein solution, you can do pretty much everything for free.

If I were still commuting it would probably be worth it. But since I'm working full timeout of the house it seems I don't have a need for it. My 60 day free trial is up in two days and I hadn't even checked it out.

The biggest selling point really is Find My iPhone, as it will locate your device anywhere in the world that it has wifi/cell/GPS access, show you where it is at on a map, let you put a message on the screen, make it play an annoying noise (even if the volume is down and the silence switch is on... i admit to having used this feature to find my phone in the couch a few times) and delete the data/lock he phone down if the phone is outright stolen.
You just have to ask yourself if that piece of mind / security for your clients is worth 100/yr to you.
