Man, at this point you might as well wait for the iPhone 5 to come out...
So because 4 months of a 12 month cycle is up I should just wait those extra 8? That seems a bit silly.
Has it really been only four months? I swear it feels like I've had this thing for much longer...
Have you set yourself a deadline where you say "screw it" and just get a black one with maybe a white case or something? Or some something else entirely?

If the white gets canceled outright I'll get a black one, but as long as the white model exists on Apple's online store I'm just gonna wait it out.
I mean fuck I've already waited three years to jump into this whole smart phone/iphone thing, I figure waiting a few more months won't hurt.
I've got a 3GS, so I'm willing to wait until maybe January before I go for the black one.
If Apple don't release the white one and do a FaceTime ad using footage of families split apart by business / being soldiers / etc to the sound of Bing Crosby's White Christmas they are really missing a trick.
Just sold my 3rd Gen and got my NEW 4th Gen iPod Touch (64 GB!) Before I sync my iTunes library- I want to clean up files. I've got duplicates, and songs with no CDDB data in them. A google search told me of "Tune up" but I wanted to see if any of you had other ideas on the best app to do this (preferably a fire-and-forget program, I'm not looking to mess with XMLs myself!) Let me know what you did.

I prefer black, but you would never see me waiting around for a black wii. I always appreciate the aesthetics of a device, but I guess that tends to wear off as the device gets integrated into my life.

Is anyone having trouble with their internet connections on their iPhones?
My iPhone 4 seems to get into some strange error state when I go online. It loads up correctly on the first page, subsequent pages timeout. Also, all internet based apps fail. I've gotten it back by restarting, but it seems that the problem comes back after one webpage.

I had that problem for a while. It turned out my desktop PC and my iPod were trying to use the same IP address, and the PC would kick the iPhone off after a minute or so. Not sure if that's the problem you're having, though.

I've been having the problem on 3G. I wonder if the local 3G service is shitting out, but coworkers haven't mentioned.

Is there an app (or a built-in way) to tell if a apps are still running after you close out of them by hitting the Home button? I downloaded a few games app recently, and my battery life has taken a nosedive.
Double tap the home button. It'll show all the apps that are "running" in the background. Most shouldn't be using battery, but some might be. Hold on the icon until the little - sign pops up, then kill whichever ones you don't want in there.
That doesn't show what is actually running, it shows what may be running and what has been run recently. The way I check up on apps is with a process manager via jailbreak.
Anyone else have a new Touch and have problems depositing checks with USAA? (I know it's a subset of a subset but surely someone else on PA has tried this!)

Yes, mine craps out on the front image, but the back image works every time. Went through a whole lot of backgrounds and lighting situations, always the front image that failed.

I'm afraid the camera's resolution isn't up to the task... that would be a bummer (that app was the main reason I upgraded when I did). Hopefully the bank will release a revision that can work with the resolution.
I want to plug my ipod touch (4g) into something that will let me watch videos (so sideways docking). Everything I see does regular docking. Does anyone on here know of a good dock for video? Something with speakers on both sides maybe?

I am putting this in the iphone thread because i am leaning iphone. So I am in the market for my first smartphone. Its either going to be a iphone 4, or a verizon type. I have some questions:
Is it true that Verizon will eventually get the iphone? If not, what is honestly the most user friendly iphone like verizon smart phone?
Since I am a "new" account, what is up with this 2GB limit? What exactly would one have to do to go over such a limit with a smart phone?
Was the "hold your phone only in a certain way or the call is dropped" thing ever fixed?
Is there any sign in the future that AT&T will be improving their services to fix the dropped call problem that I hear so much about?
Does the AT&T service work overseas? In Canada? Mexico? How about Italy/Europe?
Are there any deals involving how to transfer you old # over to AT&T? Likewise are there any deals/discounts that you can get if you have AT&T Uverse/other AT&T services?
Would you rather spend the next two years suffering under AT&T or Verizon? Or is some other company worth it? All and all I will probably be a light user of all the phone capabilities. I dont plan on creating apps or anything like that.

You have to stream a lot of video. Netflix will probably destroy that limit pretty fast. Otherwise, you'll be fine.
No, but a case fixes it, and if you don't have a case on your iPhone, you're just asking for it to get broken. I never had the problem, but I don't hold the phone in such a way that bridges the connection. I still have a case on mine though.
AT&T's "Dropped Call Problem" largely varies from user to user.
As a Cingular/AT&T user for almost 7 years now I've yet to see any issues.
And I get no service more often than I get service, even up in Portland. It's irritating.
I don't think anyone can speak with certainty about Verizon and the iPhone, but it'd sure be nice.

Most of the time when I'm watching Netflix I'm on wifi anyway, so the limit hasn't bothered me yet. Pandora over 3G hasn't put much a dent in it yet, but I only use it sporadically.
The reception issue might still exist, I dunno. I have it in a case, so it's a non-issue for me.
Some people have said the glass panels break too easily, but I've seen quite a few people drop them from normal height onto hard floors without visible damage, so in my anecdotal experience, the fragile glass panels are the exceptions, not the rule.

This story popped up today, comparing iPhone 4 repairs through Squaretrade versus the 3G and 3GS in the first four months of ownership. They might be scratch resistant, but hardened the iPhone is not. I hope we see a redesign this coming summer, I shouldn't have to put a phone in a case.
I was up at PSU last weekend, I had one bar in my sister's dorm and in the coffee shop while she breezed along with her Verizon Pre Plus. It could be worse, but compared to VZW it's pretty dang mediocre. I still don't get any consistent coverage at the coast, though AT&T's coverage map shows a big swath of it there.

Adding insult, why do they use a white iPhone in the product thumbnails for their bumpers?:

Ditto.
Black is sexy.
I don't like the way the white phones look on their own, but a white iPhone with a colored bumper is all kinds of fun.
I just prefer my electronics in that color I guess. Makes them feel more futuristic and "Apple" like.
I mean my HDTV, DS Lite, PSP, PSP Go, Dreamcat, Xbox 360 and Wii are all white, so I figured I'd keep the trend going.

I see. it's Google Goggles. But from reading the description I guess Goggles doesn't install on iPod Touches?
