So I've picked up three defilers in the last few hours of play... o_O One has mucho damage but no sights at all and low acc, one has great accuracy but no scope and low damage, and one more (the best) with ok damage and good acc BUT with the crazy big round sights like those on 'mad jak'. It's purdy! x___x
By coincidence I had been abusing both the hi-acc defiler and a mad jack before finding the last of the defilers...
So Borderlands thread, I seem to be having a bit of a problem.
I've owned this since release on the PC, but just got around to getting Knoxx. However, I seem to be unable to boost the car up the ramp to enter the prison. I know in the base game, there was boosting. Do neither of the cars have boosts as an option, or am I just a silly goose for forgetting how to boost? Alternatively; could my install be bugged as it seems I am not able to boost in the base game now either.

Check your key configuration maybe? there's still boosting. All cars can boost.

I have the same problem (even boosting gets me onto the ledge (F?)), however if you crawl all the way along the base of the wall to the left and up the rocks there you can get on top of the boulders and jump out of the car and over the wall... not a perfect option but was easier than screwing around with the rest of the game settings for me.
I had that problem on the xbox version, every time I hit the ramp with the racer the boost would turn off in mid air. hit the boost button again while flying through the air and that should be enough to get into that prison.
Just finished the main game - ending was disappointing as said here. Already did Zombie Island (which made the last stages of a game a cakewalk because I was overleveled), and now I'm starting on Knoxx. Hoping for some fat loots soon :P

Which format are you on?
Another question for the borderlands thread...
Where are the awesome sweepers? The best I've come across has x2 lighting and a decent rof with base damage of around 90. Horrible acc, and it sucks most of the time due to low proc
It's just like Diablo- pure luck more or less. You can run Craw/Armory and end up with crap. Best way to get decent weapons is farming respawning bosses, but otherwise you just shoot mans until pretty loot drops.

What level are you?
I think the highest damage I've ever seen on a sweeper was 170 or so. But I don't really keep an eye out for them, to be honest. They're named for their high fire rate and low accuracy (think "room sweeper"), one of which I love, the other not so much.
Really though, with low acc shotguns you should probably be nearly in melee range to use them.
For elemental shotguns, it's worth noting that the element either procs or doesn't proc with each pull of the trigger, not each individual pellet impact. So either none of your hits have an elemental effect, or they all do and the guy melts.

I finally got my Soldier to level 50 & started Knoxx. I really wish I had started this earlier, I'm really enjoying the characters & the difficulty. It's been a long time since I was even close to dying & now I have to actually think about what I'm doing. I just finished the fight with Mr. Shank & am looking forward to the rest of it. I'll probably get Roland to level 61 & then power-level my Siren (sitting around level 40) & play through it again & use her to try Craw.
Sweepers, by definition, have low accuracy. I think the name is borrow from the idea that shotguns with a huge spread were nicknamed "room sweepers" because everything in a room got hit. Which is fine if you're an old-timey gangster putting a hit on a crowded room. For Borderlands, I find that sweepers are very situational. Unless the enemy is in your face, you will hit nothing. (I prefer shotguns with an accuracy around 50, which is enough to reliably hit things at medium range, but I can spam it at short range and know that everything in front of me is getting murdered.)
Certain weapon stats just don't exist. I suppose someone else can prove it or list a wiki, but I don't think I've ever seen a shotgun with x4 fire, for example. Or a machine gun or combat rifle with more than x2 elemental damage. That's why I think SMG's are a tad overpowered compared to the rest, they are bullet hoses with good base damage, high elemental damage, and reasonable accuracy. And crazy fast reload times.

I had an x4 Fire combat rifle around level 25, but I sold it once I got a better DPS gun.
Both the Draco and Ogre are guns with special modifiers. My point is that a rifles (probably) aren't capable of producing a natural 3x or 4x elemental modifier. SMG's with x4 elemental without special modifiers are not unusual.

Aaaand just as I was coming in here to agree with you I caught a drop of a Glorious Massacre with x4 fire. :P
and +100 Magazine size. Sweet jeepers this is a ridiculous gun.
Is there any place I might regularly find a Nidhogg rocket launcher? It seems to be the best weapon for fighting Craw solo from the cliff spot. I have a richochet SMG but can't ever seem to hit his back spot with that.
Masume and I just introduced ourselves to Earl. Having fun so far, when we can actually play.
Edit: And I hate my current assault rifle.
Rifles take a while to get good.
Just wait until you get something you can go fully auto with that's scoped.
It's a whole new game.
I keep one of each weapon type, and use the ones I have lowest skill on.
Edit: I have so far been honest with my weapons, everything has dropped in combat or purchased from the stores. I would be lying though if I said the temptation wasn't there to mod a rocket launcher with amo regen.

Are there any viable Siren builds that don't take advantage of her ridicules +bullet damage skills? Like, for example phasewalk/melee or shotgun Siren? I'm afraid of totally outclassing my Soldier coop partner once I catch up to his level.
im pretty sure there is a dahl mod that adds just + weapon damage that makes sirens ridiculous with pretty much any weapon. (I think i have a 51% and and a 60% one somewhere)

that is a Draco
the Draco is distinguishable by x3 or x4 fire element and increased mag size
the only x3 fire rifle I've seen besides that is Ajax's Spear
1144 dmg Defiler, 1.9 fire rate, scoped. Only two rounds, but dayum.
any pestilent defiler with damage that high is going to be a two-rounder
the two-round mag gets a big fat damage bonus
six shooters probably top off at 750 or so
(the great thing about two-rounders is that a Mord with Fast Hands can reload faster than he can shoot: you can literally increase your fire rate by reloading in between shots)

I'm level 56. I had a spiked sweeper but I accidentally sold it and I forget where :L Apart from that I have the x2 flame beasty shotty (forgot what its called) and some really nice hunters. Other than that I seem to have come up dry with this character.
It may be my imagination but I find that the sweepers have a usefully predictable spray. They look snazzy, too. Especially when a giant ball of pellets procs into a lightning storm KACHOOMUHAHAHAH

3463 damage, and that's before my explosives bonuses.
I guess I found my direct fire rocket launcher, for my Bombardier build.
Edit: I knew that about the PD (and revolvers in general). But I thought they patched in proper Dracos at some point.

Add the Maliwan [strike]Plague[/strike] Crux and the Dhal Penetrator to the list.
In other news, I now have a rocket-shooting Friendly Fire and a rocket-shooting Hydra. It is unclear exactly how either actually functions.

425 x7 damage
76 acc
2.7 scope
.7 fire rate, which becomes like 2.5 with 50 weapons skill and a 70% Ogre mod.
+150% melee damage
This thing is going to chew through skulls like none other.
