IS there anyone around lvl 25-30 wanting to get some co-op going?
Despite having played through the game about 7 or 8 times I've never tried it multiplayer
I really hope we can get both skill points from doing the DLC in playthrough 2 and not having to go through the DLC a second time with everything 10 levels under you just for the point.
I mean, great, more shit to shoot. But at this point I think there's not a lot most of us can do with our characters without any further meaningful progression via either levels or talents. 2 isn't going to make a damn difference.
Yeah, I know right! They should make the game less fun to play! Who wants to feel powerful after taking down hordes of bandits, armies of soldiers and giant alien beasts!

dude my 61 siren has already filled out nearly the entirety of the assassin and controller trees, plus some the elemental
part of the fun of the game is creating a build and they're already an endangered speciess
ten more points and we can more or less get everything and that's less "fun" than "kind of deeply unsatisfying and depressing"
I think they have too many skill points available as is...
they should add aura/ special trees that cost maybe 5-7 points per level. would fall into 3 categories (mostly) buff allies, summon allies, alter enemies/ gameplay that trigger when you activate your special. higher levels would add elemental effects.
examples:
siren: buff- rest of party speeds up as well. summon- create a rift some creature comes out of. alter- charm s folks; they drop "gifts" (i.e. better drops)
soldier: buff- increase party fire rate/ recoil greatly. summon-other rebel lancers (even medics). alter- air strike that is like a screen wide grenade.
hunter: buff- party is ignored by "beasts" or is given beast like power (better melee/ jumping). summon- spider ants/ big skaggs/ etc. alter- get beasts to be friendly for a while
brick: buff- party takes less damage (especially from explosives/ grenades). summon- psychos, hordes of them. alter- enrages enemies to attack everyone.
in addition to the trees there can be a large point cost self buff (maybe 10-15 points) that is also active during/instead of the normal buff (hit the button again while still active to get the new effect):
siren: constant elemental explosions; an astral "clone" to fight along side you; weird gravity effects that hit everyone
soldier: multiple turret drops; mobile flying turrets that follow you; "stand your ground"-no recoil or reloads; mini lancer rolls by dropping mines/ blasting/ etc.
hunter: wield the sword for massive damage (similar to brick's rage); quick aerial travel (summon a big creature to carry you for a time); have hidden snipers target enemies
brick: throw boulders/ car wrecks/ etc during rage; ground pound (like sledge); dual wield rocket launchers/ shotguns (opposite weapon slot would equip) w/o reloading
I'm debating about buying on this steam sale. I already have the game for ps3, but I could probably enjoy playing it on pc again, especially since the community here actually plays occasionally. Wouldn't be able to play til October though probably. I doubt my shitty laptop will run it.

not me!
i want to barely survive those hordes of bandits, armies of soldiers, and giant alien beasts! :P
but seriously, this is why people crave proper level scaling. the game is entirely too easy now.

So I keep having the game freeze completely and stutter. Specs are an AMD phenom II x4 955, radeon 5770, 4 gigs of ram. No other games freeze or stutter. I have the graphics set to maxed because I read that it shouldn't be a problem for the 5770 to max borderlands; I have a bunch of other games maxed with no problems. Halp!
E: I have the latest ATI drivers installed; could that be it?
I was having the same problem with ATI's Catalyst Control Center. I went to the drop down menu in CCC and disabled 'Catalyst A.I." under the tab 'AI' and now it works perfectly fine without freezes and I think I actually gained a few fps.
I've mainly played Borderlands on Xbox LIVE, but have always wanted to get it for PC. How is the PC community these days? Are there a lot of people still playing?
Also, if that Steam sale ends on Friday then is anyone who hasn't got the main game yet interested to chip in to get that four copy deal? I have one other friend who wants it but I don't know anyone else looking to get it.

The latest drivers, 10.7 are the cause of a *lot* of problems for some reason. Luckily I haven't been nearly as diligent about that stuff lately and am still on the 10.5s, though people who have rolled back to the 10.6s have fixed their problems too. Hopefully the 10.8s are a return to good form.
I was on 10.6s but for some reason that I can't recall I updated to 10.7 because something wouldn't work without it. I uninstalled CCC; if that doesn't work, I'll try rolling back. Thanks!
Also is the zombie island thing really worth getting? I don't want Securom on this computer and am pretty annoyed that it uses it.

It's good, but there's plenty of content to be had without it. DLC 3, Knoxx, which aside from breaking scaling is the best of the three, has no SecuROM on Steam. If you finish the maingame and Knoxx and want more you can always pick up Zombie Island later for only a few bucks more.
So I started a new character (Lilith) and got to level 18 in one day. I could've sworn it took me much longer the first time I played (was Mordecai). Not sure if Lilith really is that much better or if it's 'cause I know the game better now. I do seem to have more money problems though so maybe I'm just not farming as much.
Is this game really as great as it seems? I bought it + all the DLC last night and I have been having a blast so far, but I remember hearing that the game sucked before..
Also, is this game deeper than it seems or is just equipping the weapon with the highest damage always a good idea?

I'm only about 11 levels into my first character but I've been really impressed by how varied the guns are so far, within the same class of gun (machine guns and shotguns are all I've really used so far) I've found things that encourage a pretty different playstyle. Range, rate of fire, accessories and a bunch of other factors I don't understand yet seem to play a big part in finding the right firearm for you

Whoever you heard that from did you a disservice.
It's deeper. Not like disseration deep, but more than just higher damage = better. You could have a 1,000,000 damage sniper rifle and it wouldn't hit anything past 10 yards with 88 accuracy.
Also, elemental damage plays a big role and is not reflected in the pure damage numbers.

Yeah it's definitely not just about damage. I like guns with scopes if I intend to use it at any distance at all. I like guns that have more than 1 or 2 shots in them, despite their high damage because reloading and reload speed affects your DPS as well. I don't like guns with too high a rate of fire if their accuracy sucks because I just use up all my bullets. Elemental damage is important vs. different enemy types. And of course different characters are better with different guns.
Having a variety of guns is good. I like having at least one high damage accurate weapon for being able to hit weak points on certain enemies, and then something that has a high clip size/ROF that's spammable for close distance running around fighting myself.

So that's what's going on, huh? Every once in awhile my game just locks up, although if I ctrl+alt+del and then close that window, the game returns to normal.
I wonder if I should just roll back to 10.6.
Edit: Apparently 10.6 still has the problems, according to some people. 10.5 it is then.

Edit: Oh, well there you go, just 2 points.
I could be wrong! 10 more points would be awesome. There isn't a character I'd have a hard time spending them as.

it ain't that hard, it's on the first page of this here thread :P
