Jam, can you tell me which pit trap is below which fresco? I.e. , is there a pit trap beneath the jailed demon, the slaves, the wizards study, the wolves, and the cows?
if there is one beneath the wizard study it's probably wise to open it and look... I think the jailed demon one is best avoided, from the poem:
" beware of trembling hands"
But actually, let's talk about that poem some more.
ACERAK CONGRATULATES YOU ON YOUR
POWERS OF OBSERVATION. SO MAKE OF THIS
WHATEVER YOU WISH, FOR YOU WILL BE MINE IN
THE END NO MATTER WHAT!
Go back to the tormentor or through the arch,
and the second great hall you’ll discover. We can use the devil head OR the magical arch Shun green if you can, but night’s good colour
is for those of great valour.
If shades of red stand for blood the wise
will not need sacrifice aught but a loop of
magical metal—you’re well along your march. OK, so I assume? that if we take the demon head we're fine. If we take the portal, we need to think about the color. Green is bad. Black is for maybe only lawful good? Red means we need to give up on magic item.
Two pits along the way will be found to lead
to a fortuitous fall, so check the wall. OK, does this HAVE to be in this room only? Maybe it means two general pits. I wonder because the next several lines seem to refer to future events. These keys and those are most important of all,
and beware of trembling hands and what will maul. "Maul"--no idea. Trembling hands I imagine are the gated fresco. If you find the false you find the true
and into the columned hall you’ll come, I'm pretty sure this refers to the future--maybe the trembling hands/maul does as well. All of the below probably refers to the next rooms too. Obviously, "left and left" probably means, two lefts. and there the throne that’s key and keyed.
The iron men of visage grim do more than
meets the viewer’s eye.
You’ve left and left and found my Tomb
and now your soul will die.
Sooooo... what do we think? Should we search more pit traps, or go through the two exits? and which one should we pick? Maybe "black is for those of valor" means the devil head. I think we should try manipulating the colored stones and seeing what colors we can make.
No, its doesn't HAVE to be in this room only, I suppose. However there are FIVE pit traps, and we've already found something in one of them, why not check the rest? We're already here, and I'd hate to have to backtrack to find a key or something.
I still say we should check each pit trap before messing with the devil head or the stones. We should also check the chest.
I don't think I had a hard time opening the pits so far, so I could open all of them. The only worry I have is if there are other traps. Also, the chest really seems like a red herring, and possibly trapped in additional ways.
How often can you cast Tenser's Floating Disc? I'd hate to use it up on the first room.
As I'm at work, the lustrous paintings have been detailed on the map via the majesty of MS Paint.
Feel the immersion! It's like you're really there!
The rest of the corridor is filled with twiddly bits but these are the major scenes.

Black is valour which =/= lawful good. Seems more likely to drop a monster on us as valour is courage. If you summon the disk I could sit on when I climb out and open the chest, then either just move it back over solid land or I'll jump back.

You sound like you're waiting for something before climbing out. Feel free to keep posting actions if I'm replying to things in the thread. The whole semi-round based thing broke down pretty quickly but that's just the way with PbP. Plus it would involve a lot of 'I watch him mess with the trap' currently.

Heh I just want to sure we have the next step planned out before I open a box and trigger a boulder chasing us through the hallway trap.

Likewise, will be hit or miss getting on here. In that case, Frederick shall follow the party, and if there is a situation where a volunteer is needed, Frederick would be more than happy to be the guinea pig.
The people in the tavern are gonna think you guys are winning on the first try. Suddenly someone's gonna die, the replacement will be called in and we'll be like, WTF you guys are only in the second room?

Good. Because that ceiling above you is looking mighty unstable. Your innate dungeoneering skill tells that lack of movement might cause a cave in at any moment.
Ok, how would I go about determing how to offer up a magic sacrifical item? And perhaps anything else Derek may be able to figure out in his professional assessment of the portal.
I'll make an Arcana check here, and post something showing off either Derek's awesomeness or his ineptitude in the IC thread.
Mike is going to investigate the portal, taking a good hard look at the glowing colors, and seeing if he can detect any link between them and the main portal. If he doesn't see anything that looks openly dangerous, he'll poke around in there with a thieves tool (he has several lock bars). If it looks openly dangerous but able to be disarmed, he'll try that.
Oh damn son, got it done in one: Perception: 1d20+1333
And by its nature, the PBP is much slower, which doesn't translate well to the back and forth players have at a table of "How about this? Or this? No you doofus, try that. And pass me the chips..."
Still. We're not really doing that in the OOC thread either.

During character creation I seriously considered using it all the time to float around above the floor, instead of walking, a la Magneto.

Terios will be cautious about everything he sees until I get back. Or some one can roll for me, that works too.

OK, guy with the magic item, step in to the gate! (I'm worried that it means one magic item per person)
maybe someone else wants to go into the demon head (someone with a LG personality)
This can only end well, I'm sure.

Arcana = 32
Oh damn son, got it done in one:
Perception: 1d20+13 33
Thievery: 1d20+16 29 +2 for thieves kit means 31
Aracana reveals nothing new about the portal.
Mike's stuff in the game thread.
I'm sure you don't mind me accelerating that one to its inevitable conclusion.
Still. We're not really doing that in the OOC thread either.
