I think I'm going to max out stealth, melee, and probably pistols - in that order
I looked at the mastery level skills in stealth and that bullshit is insane. Queue up Silent Running, Awareness, and that invisibility power, and at master level you have 20 seconds to get wherever you need to go and choke whoever you need to choke. Insanity.

Stealth/Pistols/Martial Arts Mike is the one true Mike.
Don't forget the skill that gives you Brilliance. With the right perks, you can Shadow Operative for over a minute straight.
By the end of the game, you're basically the predator.
Shotgun/Headstomp Mike is pretty fun as well, though.
Yeah, that's the most powerful combination Wyborn.
Stealth is great and pistols are by far the best weapon in the game, chainshot is damn near godmode. Martial arts is quite fun too.
Lockpicking is stupid easy in this game, but something to make the hacking game a little easier is nice too, so if you ever get spare points, that's a good investment.
Oh! Money is very limited in the game, so be careful not to try to buy everything and sell shit back, but get as many dossiers as possible, they are interesting and sometimes open up new conversation paths.

That boss fight in Saudi Arabia seemed like it was going to be tough, that guy had a Hell of a gun and blocked like crazy
But I learned in that fight that if you wait for the opponent to start to swing, then Mike can hit during their wind-up and stun them into at least one full combo.
Realized this when I was at about half health and didn't get hit again after that
I just finished my first playthrough, I was mostly professional, which probably wasn't the best choice. Professional Mike is boring Mike apparently.
Now I wanna try again and this time basically be Archer, which probably means suave some of the time and aggressive the rest.
While the choices and how they're handled were cool, and there were at least two developments that genuinely surprised me, I didn't think as much of the story in general. There were long stretches where I didn't really understand what my broader goal was. There was something about preventing WWIII which was mentioned in a scene but I never understood exactly how that was supposed to happen and exactly how what I was doing was supposed to stop it.
Am I the only one that liked Konstantin better than Heck? I did like introducing Heck to timecube, but I thought Konstantin was a more fun kind of psychopath.
If they ever make another game like this I think I'd like a little less combat and a little more spy-like stuff. Half the game I went in civilian clothes since I assumed I'd have to blend in at some point. A couple times characters acknowledged that, but mostly the AP is more of a "paramilitary" game than a "spy" game.
I want someone to make a spy game that's more like the John LeCarre novels. Dreary weather, excessive drinking, and constant paranoia. That's my kind of party.
RPS: Obviously, you’ve already been able to tell some incredibly cool stories with games. But I think, by nature, when you’re working in an action-based context, it sort of limits your subject matter.
Avellone: Yeah. I sort of wonder what Alpha Protocol would have been like without all of the more action espionage stuff. After I played Walking Dead, I was like, “What would Alpha Protocol have been like if you just fought with the dialogue system?” I wonder what kind of experience that might have been. That could have been interesting to explore.
RPS: Oh, and of course, the usual disclaimer: you should make another Alpha Protocol why aren’t you making another Alpha Protocol hi how are you i’m good no that’s a lie because there’s no more Alpha Protocol.
Avellone: [laughs] Sounds good. We have a lot of ideas for a second one, but again, Sega just wasn’t down with it. Oh, well. We’ll move on to other projects and have fun.
...
RPS: You should make a new series that’s just like Alpha Protocol, but give it an only slightly different name.
Avellone: Beta Protocol.
RPS: What’s a synonym for “protocol”? Hmmmmmm. Initiative! There you go: Beta Initiative!
Avellone: We should start hiring you. Between the 2D character and this, I think you’ve got a spot carved out for you.
RPS: It’s true. My dream job has always been The Guy Who Names Things At A Videogame Company. Thank you for your time.
I'm not sure it would have been that great. What I want more, is more actual espionage stuff to do and abilities related to it, instead of 3rd person shootering.

Just imagine, sitting in a cubicle, analyzing blurry satellite photos to see if that red blob is a tank or just a car. Listening to hours of wiretaps to see if there's any useful information. Collating intelligence reports which will promptly be ignored by members of the house committee on intelligence (Spycraft was the best)

I dropped my second playthrough early on because of Dragon Age 2 and a few other games but fine if Wyborn is doing it I'll do it again too. Saudi Arabia, hold on to your butt!
What angles are you guys taking on these playthroughs? I've been looking for an excuse to play again, but I want to do something interesting with my Thorton mk. 3.
It's only my second time through, so I'm doing a Veteran. My basic idea is to treat anyone who I encounter as a fellow professional with respect, and anyone who I feel is a poseur or a liability I will talk down to.
So I'm going to shit on Marburg et al. but be pals with all the soldier/spec ops folks you encounter, essentially. Rome is going to be one big Michael-hatefest.

But then you don't get to kill him.
Watch the spoilers guys, wyborn is just starting
I'm not sure which is more brutal, the banter when you kill him, or verbally tearing apart his world view at the end of the game

What, by making Marburg hate you you don't get to kill him? I thought that was how you DID kill him?

DarkPrimus is right--if you play your cards right AND Marburg hates you, you can kill him in Rome.

Using suave responses almost exclusively will get the hate on enough to be able to kill him.
Man, what Mike says to Marburg to kill him in Rome is some grade A shit talk. I almost felt bad until I remembered why I hate him so much.
But yeah, you need to be mostly suave up to that point, with the suave perk, and really have him not like you. Having a positive rep with SIE helps, but isn't neccissary.

I'm trying to play DA2.
Fuck it. Starting up another AP game. This time, no stealth. Gonna go around punching shit. If that doesn't work...
Shotgun?
Shotgun!

Let's not get crazy here. Part of the enjoyment was that I was the main character in a spy movie.
It's not the same when it's text, and I say that as someone who clocked at least 3000 hours in a MUD.
I thought you meant this Spycraft: http://www.crafty-games.com/node/1009 . It would be awesome if we get a CRPG from that system.
Espionage game from Telltale. I like the idea.

The 4-stance dialogue system will be replaced with a 5-stance system where one of the options is always "headslam."

Also how do I get this journalist to LIKE me, geez
Give her exclusive scoops and admit you want to get into her pants, but only partially since she's pretty and mostly since she's good at stuff.
It's not too difficult.
Why I fear the ocean.
Also, some early SIE love.

Stop hitting on her like a creeper and respect her as a journalist?
Just a thought.
And that isn't working, right?
She likes a little banter. For some reason, she finds Mike's pathetic failures in that department adorable.
(Seriously, suave was pitched as James Bond, but as has been said by many before, it feels much more Sterling Archer on an off day.)
