I seem to remember H-AN being a pain in the ass at launch if you didn't bring a shaman for cleansing totem.
Sure, but pain in the annoying sense, rather than being difficult. That sort of thing simply puts more burden on the healer, while everyone else basically ignored it and went on as usual.
I thought WotLK heroics were easy at launch, but my experiences were also colored by my TBC raid gear.
Pretty much the only PUGs I did were with people from other raiding guilds who were racing to start raiding.
SOME Heroics were.
Halls of Lightning? Halls of Stone? Certain Violet Hold bosses? Not easy at launch.
There were plenty of Heroics that raped people hard. Shit, didn't they say at one point that Loken was the most wiped on boss?
Meh, unless you were (grouped with) a holy paladin, they really weren't that hard, especially in comparison to BC heroics. You just needed to pay more attention to the mechanics than you do now, that's all. Shadow Blast was more likely to kill the tank if it wasn't interrupted, dps needed to free the healer if he got webbed, still had to run out of Loken's nova and then back in in order to avoid getting one-shot, that sort of thing. All and all, just stuff that requires more than just waltzing in and spamming a rotation / priority list / whatever.
In my opinion, the only real trouble with Wrath heroics was that rather than trash being so deadly they had to be CC'ed, instead trash was mostly not all that dangerous, except for a few interesting abilities/mechanics that generally turned out to only be somewhat deadly. And because they were only somewhat deadly, most of the time the group could just shift the burden to the tank and healer, instead of the dps doing something other than the same dang thing every single pull. Then the tank and healer outgear it, and even they don't have to really try anymore.

So anything below BC heroics is just dead easy? Please.
BC Heroics were crazy over-tuned in alot of places. Wrath was pretty well tuned (in some cases) for people in questing greens and blues. They were hard if you were geared like that. Not impossible, not crazy difficult, but hard enough that you had to try at it.
Loken wiped groups by the score back at launch. Amber Drake runs were a thing you assembled a group specifically for, not something that just happened incidentally. If you weren't running Naxx right from the start (and thus didn't already over-gear the content) or weren't sitting around in BC Raid gear or something, the Heroics were a legitimate challenge.
The problem was they were tuned too low for the gear people either had from last expansion or could easily acquire from raids. And thus they were quickly outgeared by a few and that started the inevitable avalanche of steamrolling them.

Yeah, they over-nerfed the trash for sure. Even at the start, most of it wasn't that hard. Other then a few notable instances, most of the trash was simply too easy to kill and too soft hitting for their interesting abilities to matter. Most people don't even know what the trash in these instances even DOES since they just steamroll over it.
They tried to make it less Do-Or-Die and ended up making it so weak you could just ignore most of them.
But really, saying "You just needed to pay more attention to the mechanics" like this is nothing special is just ... crazy. What the hell do you think something being "hard" entails? "Hard" means the mechanics of the fight are such that you actually have to pay attention to them as their is a legitimate chance you will fail if you don't. And those mechanics can be anything from "Run out of Void Zones" to "This shit hits hard, heal the tank alot".
I really dislike their reasoning for not having more than dual specs, to maintain some meaning and importance or whatever to your spec selection. I'm sorry but that boat sailed the moment you could make enough money to respec just by doing four quests.
They could at least be honest and admit they still have some leftover EQ dev mindset remnants that make them do stupid shit.
Their rationale is that certain people who spend their entire wow-life married to one wow-role would go into gimmick specs in order to do one fight in particular and then never use the spec again. They want a more dichotomous relationship between your optional specs, in that you are choosing to do something different (i.e. not just tanking/tanking-gimmick).
This begs the question then, why is that such a bad thing? The comparable side effect is that you have 3 trees and often 2 specs minimum in each. There's not a ton of flexibility for me to get all my pvp talents and all my pve talents if I wanted to play say, a retribution paladin or a blood DK. It can be minor stuff, like shuffling around 5 points, but it still makes a huge difference.
In any case, you will always find that people resist change. There has to be compelling reasons for the change. Right now, they want the talent trees to both be something set and something flexible. They want the dual spec to perform a dichotomous role in allowing you to do tanking OR dps, and not make extremely narrow gimicky specs extremely viable for limited sets of occasions.
I think that they are flat out wrong, but I don't think that their decision is completely without merit, as you seem to.
But the merits to the decision as you've speculated would only be merits to someone with an EQ dev mindset ("fuck the players, they must do things our way" vs. "how can we make things more fun"), so I think my statement holds.

Not really. Not giving the players what they want is a large part of making things more fun.
I sometimes wind up with a tank that seems determined to spin Anub'arak completely around this way and that during the fight, resulting in a mad scramble to get away from the Pound whenever it happens.
I already got shit in this thread for this once, but I use AotD on Anub'arak so that I can kill people with pound. Also, on every dragon. I do this because I am a misanthrope and because it is the only thing that makes my daily random interesting.
"Step right up for the big show! Round and round and round he goes, where he stops, nobody knows!"
Dragon Roulette is a necessary requirement for anything with a dragon and Anoob Wheel of Pound is always fun.
I got a surprise today. I was curious if I could somehow access my account I haven't been on in 4 years. I don't have the email anymore. All I got is my name and account name. Turned out no problem.

That's not what my history book says. RNG is very, very good for the game. Without it, every single combat outcome could be predicted with absolute certainty. RNG can be frustrating to deal with as a player. It's a challenge you must learn to navigate and overcome. I would argue the primary source of skill in a WoW player, in PvE anyway, is being able to handle situations that they did not predict.
This is pretty much how I think of the game and why I hate people who just push buttons in a pre-assigned order without giving any thought to anything going on.

Scattered Shots is brought to you by Grandpappy Frostheim, who spends his evenings in an Ironforge tavern telling young hunters how much harder things were in his day, when they had to kite mobs uphill, both ways ... back when men were men, and women were men too, and pets were next to useless -- but they were also men.
So we were mana-efficient -- and known for it, too. This was great when we had to fight Vael in BWL. Big fight, the kind that destroyed guilds. Back in those days, you'd wipe for days, for weeks, sometimes over a month on a tough boss, and that's just the way it was. We didn't have overprivileged sissies who wanted to quit after three or five wipes. Heh, three to five wipes -- we were still warming up. Weren't even limber yet, you know, still getting our buzz going and haven't even tapped the second keg.

Edit: There are more Grandpappy stories, I was thinking about the traps one.
While I agree with his point in general, the specifics are sometimes hard to justify. Here are the two types of randomness in the game:
Shadow Lab. That assassin. You know the one. Spawns randomly, jumps into a pull of 8 mobs when you least expect it, usually right behind your healer. This is the good kind of random. It can be dealt with using skill, and it's fun to handle. I feel like this enriches the game.
Then there's the other kind. Crits, random drops, crafting skillups, randomly targeted abilities. Boring. This just feels like lazy design. We couldn't come up with a meaningful mechanic, so we'll just use the RNG. This actively detracts from the game. You need a timesink? Fine, add one, but make sure there's an end in sight, otherwise it's just depressing.

That's how all those emails are so terrible...It all makes sense now.
I don't care whether there's crowd control or not, I just want to be able to actually play my class in PvE. Right now I don't get to use even one fourth of my abilities in 5-mans, and I use even fewer in raids. That's not very fun. Instances which require crowd control allow me to use more abilities, but it's not specifically the crowd control that I care about. Anything that lets me use more abilities is good.
See this I can get behind. I'm not sure what your class is, but I'd definitely like the opportunity to use more abilities on my rogue.
