My capture box doesn't like to save recorded footage into files that I can edit, so I first have to convert several gigabytes of video into an editable format (in this case, WMV). With about an hour of footage we're talking 15 hours of time for conversion with the converter I have. I was looking for freeware alternatives for what I currently use, but sadly the software I use is the best I've found so far.

After I edit the videos, rendering them takes 10 minutes of footage can take 45 minutes to an hour and half.

I'm using Sony Vegas right now for editing, and getting the codecs to work with that thing is a pain, so I need to convert.

I don't think the rendering time can be avoided. I more or less have things set to look HD (I'll let you know what my settings are in a little bit, converting videos atm), and while I'm sure I could tweak the settings a little bit to cut down on some time, I doubt that I could cut down this time much.

Short version: HD is a pain and my pathetic skills at tweaking settings combined with stubborn hardware don't help much.

How many months were people begging for SimBen to continue the Chrono Trigger LP?

Not to mention the six-month-wait in the middle of Adus' GTA IV Let's Play.
And necroing THAT was definitely well worth it, seeing as it only got better and better.

Generally speaking I don't mind people updating their LP once a week or so. I agree with Henroid, having RL things to do IS a reason to not update your LP every five seconds. It's actually quite nice because that way you can just catch up with LPs on the weekends if you're too busy during the week, and you won't have 4 sets piling up (which is what happened to me a few times when both Helloween and Klyka updated almost daily and I was really busy).

    Look let me be clear

I'm not saying you have to update every day or something

what I am saying is pick an update plan and stick to it. Don't do your first two updates every other day, then your third a week after, and then maybe one more a month after that before you abandon the thread like 90% of the people who "LP" here do

Consistency is the necessary ingredient to an LP. Inconsistency pisses off your viewer base and means your audience has to check your thread every five seconds to see if an update is out because nobody knows when you update! And making your audience do work you should be doing yourself is bad

In addition, a once weekly update plan is not exactly optimal. It's not bad per se but it's not very good, and you'll lose out on a lot of viewers with such a staggered update schedule

Problem there, is when someone actually intends to be consistent, does so and then has something actually important come up so they can't do a thing for a while. "Sorry, I have a job now so I don't get kicked out of my house" is a damn valid excuse for not being able to do something for the internet, for example. "Eh, can't be arsed at the moment" isn't; bitching at someone for the latter is viable (I do it all the time, and have been the recipient several times too!), bitching at someone for the prior is hella dickish.

Well yes, I mean I might have a delay in my lp because my 360 shit the bed

The point is I updated the thread, kept them aware of the possible delay, and am taking steps to reduce it

but my further point is 90% of the time, people abandon LPs because "it's too hard", "there's not enough viewership to make it worth it", "I stopped caring/got bored", or "..." (no explanation given, just sudden abandonment of the LP), and those guys- those guys are who I'm talking about here

Okay I went through your in-progress list right now Henroid and here's the status of some of the "in progress" threads:

Adventures of Batman and Robin- last update 3 months ago
Colonization- last update 3 months ago (enlightenedbum what's up with this LP?)
Battles from the Bulge- last update nearly 4 months ago
Dwarf Fortress- last update 2 months ago
Fantasy General- last post 5 months ago
Final Fantasy 2 (NA)- last update 4 months ago
Fort Zombie- last update 5 months ago
    GTA IV is complete
Half Life Opposing Force- last update nearly 4 months ago. Cyrus106 usually updated his other two LPs with "hey my computer's working again I'm back" a little over a week ago, but this time he didn't. Dunno if it's dead or not
Half Life 2- last update 4 months ago
Half Life 2 (Synergu)- last update nearly 6 months ago
Master of Magic: Sans a necro by some guy advertising his mod, last post was 7 months ago
Master of Orion: Last post a year and a half ago
Mega Man 9: Last post 5 months ago
    Metro 2033 is complete
Resident Evil 3: Last update 4 months ago
Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun: last post 3 months ago
The World Ends With You: All updates are gone, plus the last update was 5 months ago

You are getting way bent out of shape over this. I've yet to see a single LP where someone says "hey, why didn't you update sooner!?"

When it gets updated, it gets updated. People deal with it.

    BUT

Your pointing out of the "in progress" stuff that is actually delayed for more than 2 months is noted and I'll update accordingly. The only exception is The Adventures of Batman & Robin; Sollah has been updating the LP, but not the thread because nobody cared to post about it. :P

But if people don't watch how will my e-peen grow?

Anyway, to my great surprise there are a few people who actually watched my whole LP and I'm going to start playing through the DLC for those loyal few.

I'm wondering what the best way to go about it is as there are 5 DLC packs and together they will probably be the length of a normal LP. A new thread just for DLC doesn't seem right but the OP is fairly packed already. I guess I can just spoiler the original LP videos, make it a massive nested spoiler and add the info and vids for the DLC underneath.

I'm really just wondering if there's a limit to how much you can pack into one post, is there a limit to the number of links or a maximum number of characters I should worry about?

The maximum character length in a post is indeed 32,000, and I've only seen it happen once (the previous iteration of this thread, when I was making an update to it). Considering how many links and bbcode in general are in it, you should be able to fit an entire LP's content (link wise) in a thread post. Incidentally there's a thread about character limits in posts in Tube's Circus.

Okay I did an update on our list. PM'd requests (even those incomplete as I've asked, like with a link) have been filed in.

I also updated the status of LP's as pointed out by Rent. For those that were 'in progress' but have seemingly been dropped, I've marked them yellow for the moment as opposed to dead (which I'm sure Rent wants me to do). I'm going to take a moment to PM the people behind those LP's and ask them what's going on, give them a chance to explain and maybe find out if people have plans to return to things.

As for The World Ends With You and its updates disappearing, I'll remove it from the list in a bit following a PM to the guy about what happened.

Edit - By the way, please PM me update information and make sure you include a link so I don't have to fish for things. I mean, it's not a burden, but it just makes this process brisk.

By the way I've decided that Helloween has a strange affection for the letter 'a' because there's almost an entire block of LPs in our list done by him, all of them starting with 'a.'

This pleases me, because when I say his name it's with that English accent where 'hello' sounds like 'ALLO!' all cheerful.
