Hmm looks like I can't cut accurately post encoding. It took three hours to encode. Would people die horribly and wail and nash their teeth if there are about 10 seconds of loading.
Would you understand? Do you have sympathy???
If not looks like I gotta reencode this bitch. I'll wait until I get more feedback on it.
I don't think you'll find any sympathy or understanding about that. This is playing videogames for the internet. Who the hell do you think you are, insulting us with a ten second load time?

The specific point that I am worried about is 34:18. Based on how people reacted to the start I'm thinking they wont like that either. Those two bits are the only real long abstract talks all the rest are guides for the gameplay that I will be leaving in since this is also partly a big mission tutorial as well as a lets play.
But I can cut out the "plot discussion" pretty easily.

You should avoid sitting at menus while you talk as much as possible. You should avoid standing in one place while you talk too, for that matter.

The last one isn't a problem. Doing anything in prototype is basically muscle memory at this point. I only have to think about where I'm going if I want to do something precise with movement.
I don't think I stood still at all in that vid.
I think I will just play it safe and cut it out. Anything that amounts to a minute of talking in front of a static background that isn't actively explaining something important to the gameplay right then and there I shall remove and avoid from now on.
There's a few missions that start with just running through the city to a waypoint before the major action starts, so discussing the plot and other stuff like that will give me something to talk about on the way. The moving around will provide an interesting enough backdrop, hopefully.

I've been watching more and more let's play's recently, trying to stem my urges to spend lots of money on new (to me) games. One thing I've noticed is there are a ton of games that make you travel long distances to start a mission, or reach an objective etc.
What I would love to see in a let's play is fast forwarding through the travel bits to just before the start of the mission, then going through the mission, then if you have to travel a ways back to your hub or whatever for that game, fastforward back to that.
Now there would be exceptions. If you were espousing your oppinion on this or that game mechanic, or refreshing memory on a plot point, or relating something cool that happened to you when you reached this or that building the first time... then by all means, go normal travel and talk. But if you're just traveling for 3 minutes to reach an area and you're blathing on about how fluffy your dog is and how hot your girlfriend is... that's just unnecessary.
fakeedit: So anyone feel like they're watching a let's play when they're playing CThulu Saves the World? Like the Narrator is LP'ing you while you're playing the game? I kinda do. it's fun.

Skip to 31:26 and you'll see an example of how I plan to do all the travel segments. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm not planning on making a lets play "chat to me".
I'm not actually going to show much freeroaming in the main lets play. They will be separate videos and almost entirely filled with examples of what you can do with the new powers as you get them.
However you did give me an idea. There's a mission type called "consume" later on where you gotta hunt down dudes with memories. They will have WoI segments in them. I want to show the whole thing because I want to show people how to do the harder ones. But I'll cut out the WoI clips from those vids for people who don't care about the guide section and present them on their own.

Yeah, as much as people like to show off the menus and all the options, no one actually gives a shit.
I always find it especially amusing when someone starts an LP at the menu screen and the first thing they say is "okay let's check the options/settings!"
I mean, I guess someone might care about that... but fuck that guy, whoever he is.

I just got a call from work that if we DO open today despite the snow, it'll be later in the day. Y'know what that means! Time for a thread update!
Nier and GTA IV: Lost and the Damned have been added to the list, with some status updates here and there. X-COM's 4th thread has also been added in.
In an effort to make Adus like me again, from now on I'm going to update things as soon as I get word of 'em since they come slow these days. I fear he will never love me again, though.
I don't think I've mentioned options or settings in a single one of my videos, other than maybe to point out which difficulty I was on in IWBTG (which basically consisted of, "I am doing this on Hard, because I don't yet know if I can do this on Very Hard).

I know I've asked this before but I can't really remember what the response was. Why do we leave 'abandoned' LPs on the list exactly?
i think it was something like "we should recognize the work they put in, even though they didn't finish"
personally speaking, if we're gonna list abandoned and unfinished LPs, unless there's extenuating circumstances (like a multi-LPer LP like the zelda ones which HAD completed LPs), I'd much rather us have a "wall of shame" than list everyone's abandoned LPs
either way we should not be calling attention to unfinished work
plus if we have a wall of shame it might motivate people into finally finishing their goddamn LPs
That's really why I do the periodic lists; besides making sure the list is correct, I hope that it in some way encourages or at least shames the people named into finishing their LPs
or at least closing it gracefully; "sorry guys, but I can't finish because of x, y, and z" at least gives your audience some closure, as opposed to just not posting in it for months on end

My sentiment about leaving abandoned LPs on the list is because of what happened with my EO2 LP. It was out of my control, but I don't want what I did just thrown off to the side.
If I do make a "wall of shame" I'm going to paint it in a more positive light than that. Probably a "wall of help these geese get their shit together" or whatever. But at the very least the abandoned will be plucked form the list.

I think having a section with spoilers named "Abandoned LPs" would work fine. Either way, taking abandoned LPs out of the main list and putting them in their own category, however you portray it, is a good idea.

You can't apply what happened to one LP to everyone else (which is already a bit ironic seeing that you did abandon an LP that WAS in your control), because it's clear some people abandoned them because they stopped caring. I just think it's pointless to list them because the only purpose it really serves is to make people go "well shit, it's a shame this died so early" and/or making the person who didn't finish feel bad about it.
We don't have an obligation to recognize the unfinished work either. They're video games recorded for the Internet, not particle physics experiments.
At the very least it should be a case-by-case basis. If someone gets 90% into an LP and their computer explodes then that's different than someone dropping something after two updates.

Okay, here's what I'm gonna do (since Adus has a point at the end there). LPs that had a significant amount of work put into them before being dropped I'll likely keep around in a separate list. Anything that was abandoned early on, I'm going to de-list. I reserve the right to play favorites as I see fit (as in, Etrian Odyssey 2 <.< ).
