Well, I have the final videos ready so I may as well release them quickly and finish it. I considered just dumping all of them at once but that means I get to bump my own thread less. If you had been following the thread you'd notice the update schedule was usually pretty erratic otherwise, what with four months between videos once.

I think that's something that'd help people along with getting LPs done. Play and record first (unless you do commentary-as-you-play), then chop up / edit / commentary in pieces. Rather than do both.

honestly speaking playing video games in the context of lping isn't really fun per se
I mean all the other shit- (in the context of a video lp)- editing, commentary, splicing audio, volume balance, etc- that's worlk. But even just playing the game through on a recording session isn't really enjoyable, really. I mean, I have fun, but that isn't the main goal, it's to provide an interesting viewing experience for the viewer, which means constantly being aware of what's going on, where to go, etc
also for me, i found cutting-and-editing wise, it's easiest to multitask it
it's far easier to do a whole shitload of recording, then edit each video at the same time whilst you're running other programs (like transcoding, or interlacing audio and video, etc) in the background

... Unless you're doing a blind run with live commentary, in which case you are expected to play like you normally play, i.e. have fun. That's also the reason why I think doing live commentary is easier than post commentary; you can't really do anything wrong as long as you're having a good time. Come to think of it, that applies to post commentary as well.
But yeah, the editing and whatnot, I guess that's the part where it becomes work.
ANYWAYS
I like both you guys's LPs. I shall watch the most recent GTA part now.
I know I'm a page late with this (been sorta busy with other things), but my opinion for the Zelda megathread is that since all the games are at varying stages they should all be listed seperately according to their status, but the links should all go to the same place of course.

Considering ditching MKR. The Saturn capture method I have is sketchy at best, and it's not exactly a popular LP anyway. Doesn't lend well to viewer interaction, either.
Besides, I had two complete ones since my last abandoned LP, I'm entitled. :P

I have never abandoned a single thread, and have.... let's see here..... 13 games under my belt?! Oh my god, what the fuck is wrong with me. Holy shit I'm a horrible person. I think I need to lie down.
What I'm trying to say is that if you abandon your threads because of low viewer/readership then you are a straight busta. Just finish it. Everything gets low views here, we're a pretty small community.

SMT 1 & 2 did have a viewership, they just never said anything. :P
Fear Effect had terrible audience(and was pretty terrible too). But I'll consider finishing MKR. Maybe.

Yeah I'm getting a hard time, per video, of breaking double-digit views and I'm still doing it

No, that's not true either though. We're an exceptionally large community, LPs get lost in the shuffle however because 1) they get bumped down into oblivion by normal G and T threads, 2) a lot of people make "LPs" ( in quotation for a reason), where they're either excessively shitty, put forth no effort, or are glorified test LPs, or a combination of all of them, and 3) mindshare travels usually to the "big name" LPers on these boards

Our LP interested folks are small in amount, but the Penny Arcade forum is actually kind fucking big. :P

Well I've never seen the index say that more than 700 were viewing G&T at a time. Well actually I did once, when the first news of SC2 was announced. The forums exploded and I think went to around 900 that night. Meanwhile as I type this message SA has 961 viewers on a board dedicated to them. We're at 571 on a multi-purpose board. Of those viewers I'd say about 30% actually watch/read these things. So that's what I mean by small.

I've never really done comparisons like that. Our threads move sorta fast and are plentiful compared to some other forums I've been on. There's no doubt there are bigger forums though, and SA being bigger doesn't surprise me the slightest.

If you're closing your LP because you believe it isn't popular enough then you're doing it for the wrong reasons.
I've saw this mentioned a few times in the last thread too, might be a good idea to talk about it in the OP.
Like under the part "Do I have the time to see this through to completion, to put in the effort required to make this watchable?" you just need to straight up say, if you start an LP you should finish it or don't even bother, if you do the unthinkable and don't finish you will be banned from the forums and raped to sleep every night by dickwolves.
Also under here you should say more about video LPs (or under the video format section). It should be noted that encoding and uploading can take a lot of time, like up to four times the time it takes to record the vid. I honestly think people have the view that video LPs are a piece of piss to make so they start one then forget about it because it's too much work, yes, its a fraction of the time it would take to put together a SS LP but that fraction could still be like 4+ hours per video.

that doesn't matter, speaking from a VLP perspective
you might get 2k views, but practically you're lucky to get maybe a tenth of that be actual views of your thread

Look man it was your threads or getting SS with every character in mercs. We made the right choice.
oh man you're right
that's ridiculous
Low views too, but I don't really care. I've cemented my reputation for playing balls-hard indie games.
Rent, I'm still going to try Spelunky
You can set GTA4 to complete now, by the way.

Yeah you have to take all those pics, upload them, paste them write a wittty comment and repeat but with video you have to
1)make sure your mic works
2) make sure the video is watchable
3) make sure the audio levels are equal
4) encode
5) upload
While 1-3 are usually 1 time things, technical difficulties are waaayy more likely with a video LP.
