So, I was thinking about doing some geocaching before the pre-PAX Dinner on Thursday. I usually have way more fun in a group than finding caches alone, but I'm making the trip to Seattle all by my lonesome. Would anyone be interested in doing some urban caching around the WSCTC? There are about 25 within a mile, so there are plenty to find.
Not a problem. Both veterans and noobs would be welcome. I have little experience in it myself anyway, since I just started this new hobby in the spring, but it's not tough to get into. You just need the device.
I have a handheld GPS unit and my Droid which can also do the job, so even if we get a larger group and another device is needed, I have an extra to lend.
But I actually do have some further details. I'm thinking of starting around 1:00 and meeting at Pike Market (about 10 blocks from the WSCTC). Seriously, even if you've never done this before, I guarantee a fun time.
Geocaching is a great, casual way to spend some time. I frequently do it when I have a few hours to kill between things, because it's non-commital and fun. If you live in a big city (like Seattle), there's almost guaranteed to be a dozen geocaches in your immediate vicinity, probably one that you can see at that very moment. The number of caches out there is staggering.

I'm hoping to put it in a cache early Friday morning. There's only a couple in the area that have room for travel bugs, so it's not like there's a lot of options for which cache to put it in.
I figure once it makes it to PAX East, the goal will be to come home again. After all, the back of the coin says "Welcome Home".

Oh, well if it's supposed to go to East, I probably shouldn't take it
I made a blood pact to never set foot in Boston.

Why would that be a problem? Just take it and help it along the way. No reason one person has to do the whole trip. It's better if it travels through a bunch of caches to get there anyway.

Awesome.
p.s. Can you tell this would be my first travel bug?

The main thing with travel bugs is just to keep them moving, hopefully in the general direction of their goal. Sometimes that means going the opposite direction on the compass, but closer to points of travel. (for example, moving a bug closer to SeaTac would be more beneficial than moving it to a remote cache outside of Spokane.)
I'm getting a bit hesitant to release it in one of the downtown Seattle caches now though. Bumbershoot is also this weekend, and the only caches I see in the area capable of holding TBs are in very busy areas (and have had TBs go missing before.)

Understandable. If you place it tomorrow afternoon or Thursday early afternoon, I can pretty much be there right away to get it. I'd be able to get it all the way back to Nebraska.

I would love to join, just don't know what time my hubby and I will actually arrive in Seattle. Trying for early afternoon.

I get in around 1pm and my first appointment isn't until 8pm (Crysis 2 demo) so I would definitely have some time.
How are you coordinating meeting up?
I haven't really due to apparent lack of interest. Anyone who wants to go should PM me, I'll just send you back my phone number and name.
