That one is my favorite achievement of all. It can never be brute forced even after new content/gear. I wished they have more like that one.

AWKWARD!: I had a complete epic fail last night. Sindy 25 HM. I get PI from my priest buddy so i decided to take a speed pot and go nuts. Guess who didn't pay attention to unchain magic?

I only noticed after grid went from purty colors to complete grey. Apperantly only the tanks and me can survive the 25 stack explosion. Well, first time I was #1 on the dmg meters as a caster on that fight! woot?

Anticipation: Uld25 tonight. I been following up with people and turn out should be good. Hoping to Algalon tonight with supermassive achievement /flex. Was thinking of extending, but with the weekly being razorscale might as well reclear.

Actually... I don't think there's a level check on it, is there? Being able to do it at L85 is a variant of brute forcing, although scaling back to appropriate gear by then may be tricky.

Can anyone tell me the why and when of the cap on how many instances you can run? This seems like something that would have elicited tears similar in scale to the RealID incident.

I read that it was set that way for gold farmers. So that they cant send in thier armies just farming all day, exit/reset and go back in. I understand it in Vanilla, but since TBC money has been really easy to make. Its a hassle tho, especially right now with brewfest. It take me at most like 15 minutes to do the direbrew daily on 5 toons. Then i can do an instance and then im stuck. Im not sure if the lockout is at 5 or 6 as i had my rogue accidentely que up for a random heroic and it took me 3 min(!) to get into one. I woulda said F it and stayed but it was HHOR. I didnt want to chance a failure so i left.

Normally it should be 5 instances per hour, but I had people with only three 80s complain trying to enter VoA today.

It's also a hassle when you're farming a specific dungeon drop for an alt and reset the instance a bunch of times.

It's not really a problem when you are doing dungeons at the intended level, because most take longer than 10min. And it was implemented before we had the dungeon finder, so I don't think anyone ran into that problem.

Bolded is one of the reasons why it was put in.

The number one reason Blizzard made this system back in vanilla (seriously, I can't believe people are freaking out about it so much now like it's something new) was to stop farming of all types: bots and players alike. The secondary reason was because whenever you create an instance it exists on the server for however long. Remember when we were getting the not enough instances stuff back before the dungeon finder? If this system didn't exist that would have been (and possibly still would have been) happening all the time regardless of how many people were playing.

Clearly once the instance has been "completed" and everyone leaves, remove it form memory. There, no more issues.

There's often someone who still has to run back after everyone leaves to complete a quest/grab a quest item, gather ore/herbs/leather, or talk to someone/do something in the dungeon.

There's only a what, a 15-30 minute timer once the dungeon is empty until it disappears? That's good enough leeway in case someone hearths out then realizes that they forgot something and have to run back in.

In the case of heroics, leave it up all day in some form. Obviously not loaded into memory. In the case of normal instances, 10-15 minute window should be enough. After that, yay.

It appears that lockout period requires you to wait a full hour though, which is silly. At most it should be 10-15 minutes. And it shouldn't apply to raid groups whatsoever.

So far, these Raid Achievements are being moved to Feats of Strength:
    * The Undying is now a Feat of Strength.
    * The Immortal is now a Feat of Strength.
    * He Feeds On Your Tears (10 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
    * He Feeds On Your Tears (25 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
    * Champion of Ulduar is now a Feat of Strength.
    * Conqueror of Ulduar is now a Feat of Strength.
    * A Tribute to Skill (10 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
    * A Tribute to Mad Skill (10 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
    * A Tribute to Insanity (10 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
    * A Tribute to Dedicated Insanity is now a Feat of Strength.

    * A Tribute to Mad Skill (25 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
    * A Tribute to Insanity (25 player) is now a Feat of Strength.

Since it'll probably be more of a chore to get scaled back gear, I could see them leaving Herald in, for a while at least.

If I were Blizzard, I'd change the dungeon finder so it doesn't give you the "group found!" prompt until it's also reserved an instance for you.

Instances are not cleaned up immediately, for whatever reason. Resetting just clears your reference so that a new instance can be obtained.

I get the impression the creation and destruction of instances is somewhat expensive.

If you're doing it in real time, yes. There's no reason they shouldn't have a garbage collection system built up that assigns instances without a player reference to a queue for cleanup. I'm assuming on the huge systems they have, this is nontrivial to send it to be cleaned up anyways, even if it was realtime.

If it makes you feel better, I have the Ram(s) from the year you got it with tickets, and the Kodo from doing 30 summons a day, every day, with my insane friends that also have 6+ toons. I got it the second to last day iirc. I got the ZG Raptor after 2+ years of killing it every reset. My luck is terrible on the character I care about, just ask my stupid Polar Bear.

And then I have craphead friends that tag along with what I'm doing, and it goes something like this: "OK so what am I buying, this egg thing? What's this for? [days pass] Oh cool, a mount!"

Let's go over this instance stuff again:

You start an instance, it's created on Blizzard's instance server which handles every type of instance: dungeon, heroic, and raid. This is why all instance types count to your limit.

You reset a dungeon, it's decoupled from you so you can create a new one if you want. If everyone who's attached to that ID has reset their instances then it's no longer got any references to it and is marked for garbage collection. If any one other person has not reset their instance it will sit around for the full duration atfter which it will be closed and marked for garbage collection.

Generally during normal usage the amount of defunct dungeons aren't that large so the garbage collector can clean them all up in one go. But with the massive amounts of instances being generated and abandoned by people farming Direbrew, the garbage collector has to make multiple passes until it finally gets around to cleaning up everything. As the week goes on this will go away and the needless complaining will cease just as every other holiday-related complain-fest has.

My annoyances with it aren't too bad, as long as I don't do all my Direbrew runs and *then* try to do my Druid's Anzu run. When I do that, I get the too many instances recently error when I try to zone into Sethekk Halls.

However, if I do my druid's Anzu run first, *then* do all my Direbrew runs, I have no problem at all. The LFD tool doesn't really seem to take the lockout into account, because I can do that and then 7 characters in a row in less than 20 minutes total pretty much without getting the error.

Adore!: I had more then 25 people show up for Uld25. I think the Uld fever finally set in, and I am running a long list of subs. <3 Got Algalon kill last night. That fight was so satisfing. About half of my raid never made it into Uld back in the day.

Annoyed: Supermassive going to be a pain again, had 5 black holes all lined up beautifully. After the big bang there was only 1 left, didn't count apperantly.

Adore the second: A boomchicken in my raid is super under preforming for her gear (barely breaks 3k full buffed). So I asked another boomkin from my guild to take a chickadee under her wing. The chickadee was really actually really thrilled about having a mommikin. Apperantly she's been wanting to ask someone questions but scared to say anything in fears of getting "olo Noob reroll". <3

AdoreAbhor: The slow but magnificent roll-out of Cataclysm pre-launch stuff first across the Beta then the PTR and soon on the live server is going to drive me back to the game goddamnit! I took MMO-Champion off my bookmark bar but I just type it in manually because I want to see the pretty pictures and oh man I want to go fight off some elementals I'm so weak

Before following any advice, opinions, or thoughts I may have expressed in the above post, be warned: I found Keven Costners "Waterworld" to be a very entertaining film.
