With an early review 2 days before release, Famitsu gave Catherine a score of 35/40.
(9/9/8/9, 35 points): Atlus' first "next generation console" game that they developed themselves, Catherine earned high praise for the maturity of its story. "I like the risks the story takes," one editor said. "This is definitely an impactful game for adults. The unique characters and difficult-to-predict story combine to make this a pretty charming package."

This love for the adventure aspects of the game was echoed among other writers -- "The graphics and presentation are both high quality, and the story and adventure parts really reel in the player." The "nightmare" stages, which feature more action-oriented gameplay, weren't as heavily lauded, although they apparently aren't disastrous: "It's really impressive how the story segues into giving you action-puzzle challenges in the nightmare stages. The stages can be pretty hard, though, and finishing them is largely a trial-and-error process."

Famitsu's review scores are notoriously finicky but hey a game like this getting good reviews by anyone is a good sign.

I've been showing the G&T thread all the love lately, but since this is a rumor, I'll give you guys dibs.

    How's a 6/1/11 US release sound?

Also, I'll be streaming it when I receive it. I'll give this thread first notice, so there's that.

Where's my fuckin' credit card. Would be interesting to see if they changed the boxart for a US release, now that you mention it.
    I love you, CJ.

Found on GameStop's website, removed moments later.

Also, Atlus USA said some junk about 'no plans to release it here' and caused an uproar.

    I'd advise ignoring it.

Yup. Although I'll wail and gnash my teeth - I think this is fantastic marketing. I especially like that "Do you still like us?" sounds like a line from the game (with 'us' replaced with 'me', obviously) , either in one of the mid-level decisions or straight from the characters mouth.

Okay, I just finished Stage 3, so some more coherent thoughts:

This game is all about trial and error. Screw up, die, learn from your mistakes, die to new ones, repeat.

And it's like all hard games in that once you accomplish, dang it feels good.

I'm playing on Normal, so no rewinding. You screw up, you deal with it.

The music and atmosphere are great. The in-game renders are fantastic. No need for cutscenes, IMO. They're nice, but the in-game graphics tell the story just fine.

    Oh right, the choices.

They shift you in Blue(Angel) and Red(Devil) directions. At key points in the story, whichever you're more inclined towards will affect the outcome of certain scenes.

Are the Angel choices basically pro-Katherine and the Devil choices pro-Catherine?

More than likely, but the choices themselves to be 'Is Vincent a nice guy, or a dick?'

Also, his last name is apparently Brooks, and Katherine's is McBride.
