Chances are that there is also a reachable upper bound with the crafting skills, so we won't see a huge dispersion of where people are depending on when they got the game, which was my major problem with the EVE system.
I'm kind of saddened hearing that certain races can only be certian classes. I mean I can see it in wow with lore and that. But why can't... lets say a Twi'Lek, potentionally be any of the classes?
With news that you can have 5 companions crafting simultaneously, I have to think that there will be around 5 or 6 companions you'll be able to get. I wonder how many will be unique to each class and how much the other will be shared across classes.

The skills are going to have to be pretty liberally shared between the companions if any of them can betray you for story reasons. Would suck if you simply couldn't perform certain crafting skills because of the story path you went down.
Wonder how customizable the companions are going to be. Can you dress them up and level them up as well? Would be nice as well if you could make them look different physically since it would kinda suck if everyone had the same companions.

They already said companions have to be equipped like your character. So you're going to find use for all the non-class armor and weapons you loot.

Alternatively, force Vette to wear a skimpy slave outfit the whole game. Because you're the boss.

That reminds me of the other day when I was playing STO with a couple arcadians.
Guy 1 "That Orion doesn't have any pants."
Guy 2 "Uh, your engineer... Doesn't have pants on."
Said almost simultaneously during a boss fight.
They both died examining my poor engineer.
I feel that if your token slave girl isn't dressed inappropriately for the weather, you're doing something horribly wrong.
Jeeze. These guys are really taking some of the ideas I adore from other games and shoving them right in there. Companion inventory is something I love fiddling with.
It sounds like from the information that you only get 3 slots? That seems depressingly strict, because looking through them I saw at least 5 I'd be interested in having.
So this appears to be just the official release of the info about crafting we learned last week with a couple extra things involved. Namely, it looks like there will be a total of 3 things you can pick with only one going into actual crafting. As a result, this game is definitely going to require a whole bunch of alts in order to become a full cottage industry. You'll need at least 6 characters to cover each crafting profession.
If you look at Darth Hater's dissection of the video, it shows stills of a menu where crew skills seem to be 3 per companion and not per player character:
It's a bit small in this image but you can see the craft skill logos attached to each companion. Notice that the droid has only 1 skill assigned to him because it is a crafting skill. You can have any number of gathering and mission skills on a companion up to 3, but a crafting skill accounts for 3 craft skill slots, so to speak.
EDIT:
I think I was reading this image wrong and that those are assigned tasks for the future of those companions. Darn. Alts away for crafting!

Christ, I like what they're doing with crafting and gathering. "Go farm mats for me while I [save the galaxy/kick puppies/hit on that twilek dancer from last night]."
So this game is now incorporating companion equipment, customization, and the ability to run your own crew while you go gallivanting across the galaxy - saving lives and defending the Republic?
This, combined with the classes offered, space travel, and the quest dialogue has neatly covered everything I wanted for the game.
EDIT: My scoundrel is going to run around with a very slutty set of companions in appropriate slutty outfits. Because I am the captain.
Tells us the game isn't horribly bugged to unplayability.
Tells us that there is enough content to level to end cap. (because nothing is as boring as hitting lvl 20 and grinding the next 40 lvls).
Tells us that there is real end game content when we get to end cap.
2 and 3 would be nice to get from bioware itself. 1 would be nice to hear from any beta testers.
Other then this, the game sounds golden.
I don't think you're paying attention to this game as much as some of us are (and I'm loosely paying attention).
We know the game isn't bugged to "unplayability." Behind-doors impressions cleared that up, and it's only going to get better as the beta moves on.
We know there's enough content to level to the end-game. This has been stated I don't know how many times.
Your last one I'll give to you, some. We don't know the details on it. I think it makes sense to make it the last phase of game development, at any rate. This game, unlike previous MMO's, is about the journey, not the destination.

There has to be enough content to level to the cap, because the entire game is a big story. If the story runs out, and you are five levels from the cap, that's going to be bad. I really don't think BioWare will screw up the pacing like Funcom did with AoC.
The game has only had limited beta test release. Only a select few players, testing a small portion of the full game at the time.
Full test as in 3k players all doing their own seperate quest with the whole MMO available to them has still not been done. Not to mention the kind of test of a MMO that only comes with release and every mouthbreather gets a shot. It can still be buggy.
As said the only Beta has been of the starting areas and only up until around Lvl 10. that still leaves huge parts of the game still uncovered. A hype machine telling us that its going to be awsome is nice, but seeing is believing.
Its not that I don't want to be proven wrong, or that I don't think there is room for hope. I certainly think EA Louse is full of shit. Its just that these are the "updates" I am waiting for. I want them more then any snappy cinematic.

The sky was full of stars, every star an exploding ship. One of ours.
I don't know if you'll get those kind of updates until open beta to be honest. I just don't see us getting objective looks at the game from any objective source until we can make up our mind for the game ourselves. Maybe IGN or something will get a preview, but they probably won't get much of one compared to what the consumers will get anyway.
There's got to be a pretty crazy amount of companions in this game. It's at least 5 per class, since that's the number of guys they say can be working on crafting at a time, and presumably each companion is unique to each class.
So presumably that's at least 40 companions. I guess the more R2-D2 type droids are easier to implement than the ones with full speech, but still, that's a ridiculous number of potential party members.
I want one of my companions to be a snow-cone machine with legs. It can follow me around making delicious snow cones. Except when we are on Hoth or something, then it switches to hot chocolate mode.
That wasn't important or anything, I just felt like sharing.

looks pretty nifty in motion
also some new companions tucked in there, and some guy in carbonite
from what it sounds like, you still have to specialize in that you can only level three skills at a time
I love it that he just turns off the lights as he leaves, with the three of them still working at the consoles.

You get a nice screenshot of the Bounty Hunter ship during the companion skills video. I'll enjoy destroying it with the Force, if I can.
The goddamn fanfare that plays when you gain DSP played in my head immediately on reading that. And an image of Al Gore soon followed.
Going Green has never been more hardcore.
By the way, has anyone done any beta testing over the last few weeks? It seems like the beta testing has been fairly limited after that initial burst.
