I really need to work on aggression. It's still my main mental tick with SC2. I have this horrible tendency to want to build "just another unit" before I get aggressive.
This is why I've picked builds that involve a 7-8 minute push. I'm not going all-in with people, but I am conditioning myself to be aggressive and try and catch people unawares if they're not used to it.
Since you play Terran, can you point me to a couple of these builds? It's something I really need to make a conscious effort on. I think it's the flaw that when corrected, will let me make the transition to gold.
For all my Zerg friends. If you are tired of not having control early game, or you keep losing to harass and you realize FE is very scary on these maps, then I have a build for you. This build is very strong, very flexible, and gives you control from the beginning.
The way this build works is that you deny their first scout with a pair of zerglings, then build 5 roaches really quick and go smash their face in. It would take a bunch of early marauders/stalkers to stop this. I went 7-1 with it tonight. 3-1 against Zerg, 2-0 against Protoss, 2-0 against Terran. Here are some high plat/low diamond replays from tonight. I will include 4.
5RR vs 3Gate Robo(?)
My first try with this build. His 3gate gets shut down quick.
5RR vs Hellion Harass
This guy gets shut down before he even gets his 2 Hellions out of his base
5RR vs 3 Gate Rush
This guy sends 6 zealots at me real early and they get shut down by my 5 roaches in the middle. Then I beat on his door for a couple minutes before he lets me in.
5RR vs MorroW/LzGamer 5Rax Reaper
This guy messes up by throwing down 2 more Rax right when I knock on his door, but I dont think he could have done anything without knowing I was going to do this from the beginning.
And just to see how it can be used against Zerg
This game is ZvZ. I do 5 RR and use the roaches to block my ramp. This was my third try with this. The game before this was ZvZ where I lost to Ling/bling->muta, so that is why I block my ramp in this game. He even grabs the gold expansion that I can't take down quickly. I transition and after a while I win.
Enjoy Zerglings!!! Anyone, please please please if you find a way to beat this let me know! haha. If you want practice against it, just ask. Im all for finding counters to stuff, and this is really strong IMO.
One thing to notice. I only really want to build the first 5 Roaches to bust down a wall, then I mass speedlings into their base.
Yes, but a little more flexible because you don't lost those 5 units breaking down the door. In a baneling bust, you lose 4-5 units just getting through the door. This bust lets you have 5 tank units to go in and break legs. It's a lot of fun.
So I decide just one game after my fiancee goes to bed, trying to actually do a 4 gate. I get a zerg opponent on a rush map and after gl hf I get
"PantsB? from PA?"
Oh no I'm about to be stomped.
Jakorian went for roaches, which is really frustrating because it would have been over with my normal void ray rush. Instead, I got some pressure on him at least but he held it off, went from roaches to lisks and then mutas countered my void rays before they were even ready. I had an expansion well before him but he harassed it to the point where it wasn't bringing much in. Kicked my ass completely, because he's a better player right now, but its frustrating because I lost partially because I was trying to improve instead of playing what I knew.

it's so crazy, it just might work
I can't tonight, but I look forward to watching these tomorrow, if for no other reason than to see slightly higher level play... I have for a long time wanted to find an alternative to busting with banelings, since I don't like them at all because they just die, and then their gone, and they ain't that cheap.
roaches are sweet, the nerf to their food count hurts me more now that I have finally started seeing a use for them... it's ok blizzard, you can give zerg a really awesome early unit too! I'm tired of having my hatch killed in 10 seconds by 5 banshees that are invisible, but I need 300 zerglings to attack.
So I learned today I need to work on my micro bad. I usually have pretty solid macro going. Never really have excess minerals. Expand when I need to, upgrade my production when I expand. Its all good.
Now Im forcing myself away from my comfort builds into my micro oriented ones. Early ghosts, early HTs, zealot/sentry. Stuff that requires I do more then a-click and position my colossi behind so they dont get killed.
I suck.
Every game, I have them pretty good, but then I blow it on a huge mis-micro. As Terran I keep getting stormed before I get my emps off. I also get units killed before I get them off. As toss I keep getting EMP'd or siege tanked or something before I get my storms out.
Every game tonight has gone the same way. They attack early, I repel. I attack and win the battle but have to pull back because they have more units coming and im out of energy and the like and need to regroup. I build a pretty nice force and go in for the kill only to have them do some storms/emps or whatever to completely ruin me.
The graph looks the same every day, slow build for me until I have a sizable advantage and then a free-fall to the end. Why do I keep looking back at my base to place a pylon or supply depot RIGHT as their force meets mine
Why dont I know the range of EMP and storm?
I had one game where I wouldve absolutely destroyed the enemy. He had all his bio units ahead of his tanks a good amount. He saw my guy at the xel-naga and killed him then fell back. I assumed to set up tanks to wait for me. So I go around a flank, only to be met my a line of tanks. No bio. My HT get smoked, half my army dies and his bio is sitting two feet from where I last saw them, out of tank range, ripe for the storming
Had I just pushed forward with my superior army I wouldve owned his bio so fast and then just rolled over the tanks with almost zero losses.
So I decide just one game after my fiancee goes to bed, trying to actually do a 4 gate. I get a zerg opponent on a rush map and after gl hf I get

I thought I was dead when those zealots and stalkers came into my base before my roaches had hatched. You played a really good game.
I have been playing Terran exclusively and doing a standar 1 Rax FE with marginal success. It has carried me all the way to #1 Platinum in Latin America.
Any other openings for Terran?
I heard 1-1-1 was the standar, and there is this kind of Reaper first thing going on?
Sucks that i can't play with PA dudes though. There isn't cross server playing, right?
Anyone on Latin America, Division Swann Muu?

Reaper first is for harassing Zerg.
Also I think cross-region play will come... eventually.
holy shit, i just discovered that if you hold shift and then make buildings, it will queue them up. it also applies to every thing else in the game.
Yeah this is awesome it lets you make a perimeter or turrets and send your scvs back mining while you do other stuff.
It also has some "smart casting" capabilities when used with groups of units. Try shift-casting Sentry Forcefield. You can hold shift, hit the FF hotkey, then just click, click, click where you want them.
You can set a production waypoint to one of your units, so whenever a new unit is finished, it will automatically start following that unit. The only caveat here is that if the "leader" unit is killed, the waypoint is cancelled.
When selecting units, holding SHIFT will add the unit to your current select. If the unit is already selected, it will deselect it.
Hold CTRL to select all units of the same type. Double click works as well.
Holding CTRL+SHIFT will add all units of that type to your current selection. (Combining the last two functions). These all work on the box of unit outlines at the bottom of your UI as well.
Instead of using the usual attack-move command, SHIFT + RClick does the same.
Hold LClick on a unit's portrait on your UI to have the camera follow that unit. I think you can hold/press SHIFT+CTRL+F or something as well.
Issuing a HOLD command will prevent a unit from being pushed around by your other units. This is useful sometimes when trying to move your units into a precise space.
ALT will show health bars of your units.
F1 to select an idle worker; CTRL+F1 to select all idle workers.
CTRL + ALT + F toggles frame rate.
Holding SHIFT allows you to set waypoints, both while building and issuing other orders. For example, if you want to focus fire during a fight, you can SHIFT + RClick unit after unit, and your entire group will take each one down in turn. This is more efficient than waiting until the unit dies and selecting another. The maximum number of commands that can be queued per unit is 32, not that it would ever be an issue.
You can also use SHIFT + Rclick to order a worker to go back to mining after a building has been finished.
TAB cycles your control groups.
If you have multiple unit types or building types selected, TAB will cycle those too. So, if you have a group of Battle Cruisers selected as well as a group of Siege Tanks (lol?) you can press TAB to cycle through them and use their abilities separately, without deselecting any of them. Also, you can set all production buildings to a single hot key and cycle through them to build each unit. SHIFT + TAB cycles backwards.
Type /dance or /cheer with infantry.
Zerg hatcheries have two rally points, one for drones and one for everything else. Right click your resources and then right click somewhere else. Drones will automatically be sent to the resources. Queens are exempt from rally points.
holy shit, i just discovered that if you hold shift and then make buildings, it will queue them up. it also applies to every thing else in the game.
Highlight multiple workers and they will each start production on a different building as well. Great for terran when you need to create multiple turrets or any other building quickly and efficiently.
people use early aggression to get to diamond and then can't do anything else when it fails. They then slowly lose every game they play until they drop to plat/gold
Here is my 1000th win as a random in solo. Most of my games were from 2-5 minutes long. Here is how I did it.
1. Bronze league obviously.
2. Avoid Terrans. Just quit when facing them because they lift off in anger after you kill their workers.
3. Once game starts, select all workers. (Build extra guy but not really necessary).
4. Attack move to enemy base.
5. Watch enemy die to your outnumbered workers.
Took a long time even with this method. Was able to alt-tab and browse web or watch TV while I did this most of the time. This final win pretty much sums up over half of my wins.
Pretty hilarious that attack move with 6-7 workers is taking out bronze opponents.
honestly, i feel like a complete dumbass for this but I haven't been upgrading to warpgates because...i'm...retarded. I just started using them and they make the late game SO MUCH EASIER. 15 warpgates + 2 or 3 bases = instant army in 2-3 minutes.
also, I built a single pylon in an enemy base and warped in a shit ton of zealots ftw. twas awesome.

I did a 2v2 with some 'Toss guy who put a proxy pylon in a guy's base and when the zealots came from behind and destroyed his workers, he cried "NICE INVIS HACKS YOU (goose)" and left.
I just had the weirdest PvP game on scrap station.
At around 8 minutes I sent three zealots over to check out my opponent's base to see if he was going to go ground or try to come across the gap with VRs.
My zealots slipped past the cannon he'd put up at his front door and made it to his mineral line, untouched. They started wreaking havoc on his probes.
Two void rays show up and fry my zealots, but not before all but one of his probes are dead. And now I have my answer about his strategy, too.
His two VRs show up in my base almost immediately after killing my zealots. I fucked up one of my cannon placements and he manages to take out a pylon, powering the cannon down, and gets into my mineral line. I move my workers to the corner of my base where I have a small cluster of cannons with redundant pylons. I then warp in two zealots with the last of my minerals. His VRs take out my nexus, avoiding my remaining cannons. I don't have enough food to build a new nexus, so I figure I'm done. I send my remaining forces (2 zealots, 6 probes) on an all in rush on his base.
Four of my probes and one of my zealots make it past his front door and into his rejuvenated mineral line. His probes manage to kill my last zealot but my final 4 probes are hanging in there. I should have quit at this point, but I childishly set my probes on his nexus and waited for the end to come. I was going to gg as soon as they were dead.
Suddenly... my opponent gg's. I won? I checked the replay and my cannons took out one of his two void rays, but he still had one left. All he had to do was come back, zap my probes with his VR, build back up, and finish my base. Hell, like I said, i was going to gg out as soon as my probes were dead.
But instead I ended up winning on a kamikaze probe rush. So okay.
i've tried holdin out till the very end a couple times but it's never ever led me to victory. it's sad since i've seen quite a few replays where someone hangs by a thread and comes back in the end. I just want it to happen once
I just had a really fun FFA where I went marine/raven/viking. I'm gonna work out a 1 on 1 and 2 on 2 build that specifically does that, and reliably (with a couple tanks for D, probably.) It was amazingly enjoyable.
So enjoyable that I actually made medivacs to heal (not just be transports) and even got stim for my marines .

maybe another unit before mutalisks
edit: in the spirit of zerg replays, here is TLO playing zerg against an insurmountable flow of zerglings, very interesting replay
felt good
mainly because even if he scouted the pylon, i wouldn't have been at a lost!

Man, that's about 10 minutes a game. Some serious aggression going on, there.
Intentionally use really cheesy/all in rushes to win games extremely quickly. They're not going for rank, just for wins.
And probably surrendering 5 games in a row after every 5 wins, or something like that.
Any SEA players going to enter these?
