Let's Play of sandbox games are bad, because the choice is never yours, and you have to watch someone make choices you probably wouldn't.
I'd suggest going to Fallout Wikia and reading the story there.
Other than that, if you really want a LP, youtube and such are the answer.
Except they're not really sanbox games? I mean, sure you can go anywhere you want, but there is a clear storyline, and (more so in 1 than 2) a strongly suggested order in which to visit the locations. Really, they aren't that much less linear than Bioware RPGs
They're sandbox games. We had this discussion a while ago. Your argument here isn't very compelling either, as all "sandbox" games have a main running linear story. Fallout's can be played in a vast amount of ways, with the vast amount of choices available. They do not lend themselves to good Let's Play, because each particular choice runs the risk of going counter to the viewer's wishes.
But then all media do not lend themselves to being good media, as the choices made by the creators may not run accordingly with the viewer's...
....however, it may be that your definition of a LP is that it's a bunch of people voting on what the player does next, but that also has the problem of the choices running counter to the minority. I watch LPs to see reactions and how the player deals with things.

No.... my definition of an LP is that it's a useful service when the game is linear as fuck and there are no choices to be made.
Because an LP is limited to a singular-go-around, the viewer may wish to see how the choices that they themselves would choose (counter to the person playing the LP) play out. Something that is rendered impossible with each crossroad where the wished road is not taken.
An LP of a sandbox game is proof that interactive narratives are superior to passive ones, such as video and the like. It also means that it's automatically not an interchangeable experience.
Limitations of the format. Just facts really.

I have him using my .223 right now, is that bad thing? He said he's good with pistols and rifles. I figure, best of both worlds. Vault wiki says the .44 only does a meager 10 - 16, where as the .223 does 20 - 30.
Something is really awry, because Tycho can't equip the .223 pistol since it's a "submachine gun" type weapon.
Ian can equip pistols and SMGs, Tycho can equip pistols, shotguns and rifles, and Katja can only equip SMGs. (From a gun standpoint anyway, melee weapons are a whole different mess.)
And no, I'm not the one making this unnecessarily complicated, the programmers are.
While they say they can only equip so-and-so weapon types, the engine actually restricts them to the sprite that represents said weapons, which is why Katja is able to equip the .44 pistol, since it utilizes the SMG sprite.

Like watching your buddy play a horror game and laughing whenever he freaks the hell out.

The .223 pistol uses an SMG sprite, the 14mm pistol uses an SMG sprite, but the .44 Desert Eagle is just a good old fashioned pistol.
No, I've provided the reason as to why you have a null opinion.
The observation that you suck at games is a derivation from your opinion, and is a separate point, one that influences you to have the wrong idea.
(edit: I don't know if this seems like an insult? It's not meant to be one. Most gamers suck at games. There was an apt comic about GD Teenage Cyborgs lately here. While I'm not one of them, I'm simply delineating that you're bound to draw the wrong conclusions if you're not good at games, therefore you shouldn't be thinking too much about having the proper perspective).
edit2: If you want to talk about customization, the bottom line is that I'm not being paid to balance the game. It's the developer's job to tier and separate the different ways their game can be played. If you want to play developer, then I'm all for all of your games having every single option that you may want to modify, tick-able. I on the other hand, want my developers to structure the game appropriately, and give me the ability to experience one game in a couple of different ways.
Not to say that many games succeed at this, but there are quite a few that do.
Other than having every single aspect scripted instead of hard-coded (which as far as I remember is a fucking logistical nightmare to accomplish), in general I would place my trust in the person that designed a particular game to know where and how it alters best, and provide the appropriate modification.
I... what? Well, that is insulting. More because it has nothing to do with what I am saying.
I am suggesting options, not limitations. This has no impact on you selecting from difficulties. This isn't about you balancing for them, the balance is still implemented by devs. Instead of selecting the entire thing at Easy, you could set one aspect of the difficulty to Easy, another to Medium, etc.
Its not like having the sliding scale requires them to omit the basic levels. Picture this.

Before we get into it anymore, though, I've gotta say that I'm finding your tone (well, what passes for a tone textually) to be dismissive and insulting.

As I said, by all means. Balance your own game if you can find a developer willing to give you the tools.
And some other young actress that co-starred with Keith David in some indie teenage movie about an intersexed person in junior high whos name I'm way too lazy to write down.
That was really enjoyable. I never actually beat the main storyline as I kind of lost interest when
Dad died
so to beat the story finally was satisfying. I didn't have to do Anchorage as I had beaten that when it first came out. I really enjoyed the Pitt, Broken Steel and Point Lookout ( the best of the lot imo ) but the turkey had to be Mothership Zeta. I don't know why but I just found it boring as hell.
All the Alien Epoxy was nice to keep my weapons in shape though :P
Sawyer can't write for a while sorry. May have something to do that in his current shape communication is impossible.
Anyway, as long as this is on I may as well post "useless" info.

Well, when one of your favorite game franchises calls up and offers you a part AS A COMPANION, what do you do? Well, I had a heart attack, and then I calmly said, “Yes, please.” I am sooo lucky to be voicing the character of “Veronica Santangelo” in the new Fallout game. I can’t tell you how exciting this is, the fact that I’m a playable companion with HUNDREDS of lines of dialogue is absolutely a dream come true. So on October 19th (the same day as Rock of the Dead actually) pick up a copy and enjoy killing me off if you want, haha.

I was the one who wanted the LP
An LP on a sandbox game or a game with multiple paths is still fine. Some people suggested that I just read the wiki to get the a summary of the stories. But one thing an LP brings that summaries do not is entertainment.
Now it's true that I would probably be better entertained playing the actual game over reading or watching someone else play it, but depending on who authors the LP, it can be fun too! Even if they pick choices or paths that you would not personally, seeing how they react and making it fun for both the player and reader/watcher can be a great experiance.
I've been reading that Fallout 1 LP and I must admit that it's very entertaining. The person who did it is doing it in a diary format and has never played Fallout 1 before, he is also doing it from the perspective of the vault dweller.
To me, it's like reading or hearing a story you've heard before, but from a different person or from a different point of view. Like hearing the multiple tellings of a classic tale like Beauty and the Beast (just an example!). You may not like any other version except Disney's, but if you are entertained, that's all that matters.

I'd like everyone's health to be shit. Including the player's. Like two shots in the head, game over.
And then the enemy has VATS, like in F1 and F2. Briefly pauses the game, executes commands depending on %, same chance to hit just as the player, based on skill.
And skills equal or greater than the player.
Seriously, so sick of player characters having all these in-game mechanic advantages over AI. If I can aim at someone's leg and stop them from running away, the enemy should be able to as well.
Have we heard any mention of that sort of thing being in the Hardcore mode? I know they said crippled limbs take longer/require medical attention to heal, but that's all I've heard about it.
Unfortunately we've heard the exact opposite.
Hardcore isn't a difficulty mode. It's a game mode. You can play "Hardcore" on "Easy".
Yeah, I heard this. This is neat. I guess playing Hardcore on Hard difficulty is something to try.
It would be interesting and extremely challenging if they rolled with the turn-based thing, pushed it farther. You can use VATS, so can your opponents. Some things would have to be worked out, maybe change how shooting works a little so it is harder to get headshots.
I don't want to be able to walk through gunfire at any level, unless I am wearing some really sweet power armor. And plasma weapons should be something to afraid of, even if you are wearing power armor.

isnt she an actor? dont actors often do voice acting roles? She also acts in a lot of nerdy shows, and acts well.
Are we seriously saying that a professional actor shouldnt be cast in a voice acting role if there is the possibility that the nature of her public figure meant there was somehow a bias that ignored her voice acting skills?

Yes, Tim Curry for example has been in several video games as an example (Most memorably as Stratos in Sacrifice ). It's becoming more "normal" for actors to do voice acting in video games though, like Tricia Helfer who does EDI in Mass Effect 2. Most of them do a pretty good job. It's when you get a good famous actor and then horribly fail to use them that annoys me.
They are ACTORS. Voice acting is something they do often, not just in games, but in CG films and cartoons. There isnt actors on one side and voice actors on the other and they can never cross the boundary between.
I dont understand whats being suggested here, that the sole reason these actors are chosen is for their notoriety? Its obviously a part of it, but if an actor is enthusiastic about the role, talented at VA and does a good job whats the beef?
One thing that I find a bit annoying when games have big name actors is that sometimes they barely use them. Like Tim Curry in Dragon Age and Liam Neeson in Fallout 3.
I was listening to Liam's smooth dreamy voice and got so lost in his baritone of....I'm sorry, I drifted off.

That really annoys me as well. If you get someone well known (Tricia Helfer, Seth Green, Malcolm McDowell and such forth) they should have large roles (EDI, Joker, President). Having someone in there for like, a handful of lines and killed off like Patrick Stewart in Oblivion is such a giant waste of time and energy. Given that Felicia Day is actually a companion and apparently even has her own quest line I find it hard to accuse them of under using their voice talent.
Second time I've been told to get off a lawn in this thread.
And its the second time I'm going to stand out reach of an old man's power-cane and go "HAH!"
Initiates these days, no respect for Elders, amirite?
Good news on the F1 front. As I said, the game got better once I got the waterchip done with and Necro was off the map. Today the game got way better. The dialogue I've been seeing has been getting better*, the combat got so much better with the addition of Tycho (and a combat shotgun for him, a plasma rifle for me and some power armour).
Fallout has lots of combat, but my character was a gimp, and this made things frustrating to an unreasonable degree. Now I get to be a smooth talker scientist taking advantage of his knowledge by using weapons that go "PEWPEW!" and armour that requires mechanical maintenance. I just wish I could do helmetless, and have it under my arm at all times, while striking a heroic pose.
Took down the Deathclaw nest near the gun runners without so much as a sniffle. Now I'm moving on Adyntum against the Regulators. I'm hoping I can avoid any civilian casualties, which shouldn't be too hard, considering the Blades are now loaded up with combat armour and energy weapons.
I'm wondering, though, can companions just not use varying armours? I'm gonna pissed Tycho won't wear the combat armour and Ian won't put on the metal armour.
Suffice to say, I intend to make my F2 character much more combat capable. Less IN, more AG, basically. Although, I see the BoS can give me a bit of help in the AG department for 5000 bottle caps.
*Which I can fairly say wasn't due to low stats/skills as I've had 120 speech for a good few levels now. Just as the game goes on, it seems to get better. I'm kind of sad I didn't get to chat it up with Set.
Edit: Also, Felicia Day is pretty, the sun rises, super mutants have funny lips, brahmin tipping is the best and plasma weapons go "PEWPEW!".
Really, brahmin tipping? I can't believe thats in F3, and it better be in NV, or I will just give up on the series. I've spent so much time crouching up to brahmin at Arefu and pushing them over. "Press E for Good Time" is what it should say.

She's a huge fallout fan, an actress and competent singer (which means she's familiar with a sound booth), and probably costs 1/50th as much as some of their big names
I think she'll do a pretty good job
They clearly didn't just pick her because everyone has an e-crush on her (even though we totally do)

I'm not saying she want be spectacular. I was just throwing the theory out there that the fact she's way more known than Random Voice Actor factors into it. It gives marketing something to trumpet, etc. And the e-crush stuff doesn't hurt either. I was ready to hate Miranda in ME2 for not being Ash, but the fact it was Sarah/Yvonne Strahovski from Chuck just overcame my irrational hatred with an irrational like. :P And now Chuck himself is in New Vegas!
I didn't mean to kickoff a "film/tv actors can't do voice work" debate, since that's clearly not true.

So I haven't really been following NV too much. Can someone tell me what exactly they are changing? Aside from new weapons and locations, the game I saw in the trailer looked pretty much exactly like Fallout 3.
Not that I am complaining, but have they talked about any gameplay changes?
Not just this, but they've improved the whole manual shooting aspect of the game whilst still improving on VATS by adding melee special moves and similar. Not having to start from scratch has meant that they've had plenty of time to polish gameplay aspects such as these.

Also, damage in VATS so your not an invincible god with Grim reapers sprint
Fallout always had several voices of known Actors Tony Shaloub/Michael Dorn/Richard Dean Anderson regardless of voice acting experiecne and it always ended awesome.

Aside from iron sights, you can now modify your weapons. It seems each gun has specific, unique mods for it. One of the lever action rifles gets a custom receiver, a fancier stock, and an extended (all the way to the end of the barrel) magazine. The hunting rifle gets a custom bolt, a scope and an extended magazine.
There are also craftable items, we don't know too many particulars. There are different types, there is a work table, a reloading table and maybe more.
Armor has a damage thresh hold. I might be getting this wrong, but a low power gun won't necessarily penetrate armor.
There is reputation now too, which is different from karma.
Yes. If you travel a long distance you are likely to have your H20/FOD/SLP meters lighting up when you get to your destination.
The PipBoy shows exact values (as with RAD in F3), but the HUD has pop-ups for general "danger".
When you hit the first level of badness, the three letter abbreviation will pop up but be dim and HUD-colored. So if your HUD is set to blue and you hit Minor Dehydration, it's a dark blue, semi-opaque H20.
When you hit the second level, it's normal HUD color, fully opaque. No messin' around, get some H20.
There are five abbreviations that can show up on the HUD : H20, FOD, SLP, RAD, and LMB. With limbs the color changes as more of your limbs are crippled. Just in case you forget that your torso, both legs, and both arms are piles of mush.
You can occasionally find boxes of primers, boxes of cases, or jars of powder on merchants (usually at the Gun Runners).

Before we get into it anymore, though, I've gotta say that I'm finding your tone (well, what passes for a tone textually) to be dismissive and insulting.
I put the .223 on Tycho, then told him to be ready to draw his best. He then put away his shotgun. So, I don't know?
And Ian refuses to use the .223, even though it is way better than the .44.
Old man. I bet in your day they used to only have 8-bit colour and midi music.
Now we have laser vision and 5D. Excuse me while I step on your lawn, much to your disapproval.
As I said, by all means. Balance your own game if you can find a developer willing to give you the tools.
I'm all for deep options.

And some other young actress that co-starred with Keith David in some indie teenage movie about an intersexed person in junior high whos name I'm way too lazy to write down.
Portrays an unknown charachter.
I need more Sawyer quotes.
That was really enjoyable. I never actually beat the main storyline as I kind of lost interest when
so to beat the story finally was satisfying.
Anyway, as long as this is on I may as well post "useless" info.
Like nice blog words from Felicia Day
I was the one who wanted the LP

Yeah, I meant 14mm. I was reciting from memory, and I knew there was a 4 in there somewhere.
Get off my holographic lawn.
Also, Felicia Day punching things to death with a Power Fist?! I'm in.
Girl next door pretty.

You're welcome friend.
Any more snide comments I can help you form? Maybe one about all the pretty asian females in your sig and avatar?
We'll keep it easy, I don't wish to tax your vocabulary.

Are we seriously saying that a professional actor shouldnt be cast in a voice acting role if there is the possibility that the nature of her public figure meant there was somehow a bias that ignored her voice acting skills?
I dont understand whats being suggested here, that the sole reason these actors are chosen is for their notoriety? Its obviously a part of it, but if an actor is enthusiastic about the role, talented at VA and does a good job whats the beef?

I was listening to Liam's smooth dreamy voice and got so lost in his baritone of....I'm sorry, I drifted off.

Not that I am complaining, but have they talked about any gameplay changes?
kpop appreciation station i also like to tweet some
Not just this, but they've improved the whole manual shooting aspect of the game whilst still improving on VATS by adding melee special moves and similar. Not having to start from scratch has meant that they've had plenty of time to polish gameplay aspects such as these.
Also, damage in VATS so your not an invincible god with Grim reapers sprint
And there is the optional hardcore mode.
I'm probably missing stuff.
Nine days to release!
Get out.
Do you mean Richard Dean Anderson, C2B? MacGyver?
