They did a pretty good job of making combat boring in this game, Arcane Warrior is just straight auto attack with half misses, mage I just cycle through pretty much the same spells but it is the most fun, warrior is mostly auto attack, archer is mostly auto attack, how is the rogue? Never had one in my party really.
All classes except mage are largely auto-attack with some CC thrown in. Some specializations are worse than others, and Arcane Warrior is one of the simplest.
I think this is something they are going to fix in DA2, or at least try to fix.
I always thought Leliana was a bit uninteresting, but once you start learning about Marjolaine and bardery and such, it's not as bad. I consider her on par with Alistair.
Wynne and Sten are the most interesting to talk to, followed closely by Morrigan. Shale and Ohgren are funny, so there's that. Zevran is the least interesting to me.
I liked Zevran because he had some witty banter and a nifty accent.
But he has no strong purpose or sense of self, I mean Alistair has much stronger convictions than Zevran does and Alistair's entire character arc is about learning to overcome that. Zevran just doesn't progress enough as a character. He needed, more than anyone, a strong arc that either reinforced his rejection of the Crows and desire to be his own person or a total breakdown where he realizes he will never be able to escape his upbringing.
So things have become messy after I found that the fastest way to raise party members standing with me is to have sex with them all. I am 42 hours in and I think I am nearing the end.

Morrigan won't let me sex her, how do I sex Morrigan?
Morrigan isn't looking for a relationship. She's looking for a fling. If you get too lovey-dovey with her, it will push her away. And acting like a dick is also sometimes a good thing to do. She likes the "bad boys."
Oh, and she won't go lesbian so if you're playing a female lead, you're not gonna get any from her.

So I finally beat the Archdemon after nearly a year of attempts.
My strategy? I switched the difficulty to Casual. You probably already knew, but Ballistas don't break in that mode.
I feel a bit dirty doing that, but seriously....fuck it. Hardest pain in the ass boss I've encountered this console generation. Maybe I'll try again after I do all the DLC in the UE.
Incidentally, for the "Perfectionist" achievement, do I have to restart the entire game from the beginning each time, or can I reload different save points before the final battle in order to get those different outcomes?

I am almost the exact opposite of you, except for Wynne.
Zevran is my favorite character in the game, followed by Wynne, then Shale and Oghren for the humor, then Alistair, and Leliana, then the dog, then the dwarf merchants, then anyone else I can possibly find, then Morrigan, then Sten.

The archdemon fight was way stupider than it needed to be. I managed to kill him in one try on Normal, but it was so tedious running all over the goddamn place. That fight should have been about 100x better than it was.
God, I feel like I'm shitting on this game a lot. I actually loved the hell out of DAO. I've invested 100 hours in that game, which I almost never do. It was a great experience for me. But man is it flawed.

It's also quite easy on hard difficulty. Just summon 50 dwarves when you get on top of the tower, assign your heavy hitters on archdemon and run around with a rogue to use and repair ballistas.
I had much more trouble with Flemeth.
I don't understand the archdemon difficulty. If I recall I just stood in one place and killed it from range. I was something like 90% immune to spirit damage so it couldn't even damage my main.

I murdered Zevran because don't ever try and kill me. I left Shale at camp 90% of the game, and found Morrigan irritating by the end. I spent most of my time talking to Leilana until I realized I couldn't bed her, and then talked to Alistair and Wynne a lot in the end. Their banter is great.
Especially if you're playing a female Warden in a relationship with Alistair.
Alistair: Why are you smiling like that? You look suspiciously like the cat who swallowed the pigeon.
Wynne: Canary.
Alistair: What?
Wynne: I look like the cat that swallowed the canary.
Alistair: I once had a very large cat, but that's not my point. My point is why are you smirking?
Wynne: (Chuckles) You were watching her. With great interest, I might add. In fact, I believe you were...enraptured.
Alistair: She's our leader. I look to her for guidance.
Wynne: Oh, I see. So what guidance did you find in those swaying hips hmm?
Alistair: No no no, I wasn't looking at...you know her...hind-quarters
Wynne: Certainly.
Alistair: I gazed...glanced, in that direction, maybe, but I wasn't staring...or really seeing anything even.
Wynne: Of course.
Alistair: I hate you. You're a bad person.
Well I just beat the game at around 45 hours, the ending fight wasn't too bad once I learned you could actually summon dwarves and such to fight. What is with the empty circle? Was I missing someones support? Golems maybe?

I was a rogue so myself and Leilana were put on the ballistas. I moved Alistair and Wynne to my side and turned their controls completely off.

It was fairly easy after that.
