My only complaint so far is the camera seems to be bad at adjusting for going inside a building or cave.

ahaha. Chapter 2 had a kinda funny moment for me.
"You learned how to build a stone axe" "Oh. finally, an upgraded weapon" "Build it from the sewing station" "That seems....incorrect"

Yeah. It's why roofing isn't really a thing. I get the feeling they tried it, and were like "Oh...we cant get this to not be the worst thing. Just No roof."

When you finally get the camera fixed inside a cave, it essentially just puts you into first person mode. They could easily just add the ability to jump the camera into a first person perspective.

If you build your rooms 3 or 4 blocks high, the camera doesn't freak out as much.

Most of the space issues I find with the game aren't unique to the game. It reminds me of this article I once read about space and perspective in video games, specifically 3rd person cameras, and they used a living room from Max Payne to demonstrate. If you design a room to normal, realistic dimensions, it looks cramped as hell. You have to purposefully stretch things out to a ridiculous degree, and then it suddenly looks "normal". But then the specific issue with this game is that you can't exactly do that, or else you run out of land space.

You can always center the camera again by pressing in the R stick, which works great for getting that "inside" view when you enter buildings or caves.

I'm still here in Chapter 1, doing every little sidequest I possibly can.

Nice to know that an iron golem in the desert island will drop fully formed bathtubs. Fully. Formed.

Did the gardening sidequest - got a bench, which I already knew how to make. Spoke to his buddy Hammerhood though and got blueprints to make a garden hothouse. Too bad there's no room in Cantlin to make such a thing.

Did the gravestone sidequest - got a Seed of Life. Did the second half of the gravestone sidequest - Got Talaria Shoes! Double jump, hoooooo!!

Found the treasures in the Pyramid on the desert island - The Featherfoot Boots with the Talaria is the best combination of accessories, they are never coming off. NEVER. Also found a fireplace. Again, next to no room to make it.

Never found a use for the following materials - ruby, pumice, silver.

Sheridon in the first town mentions making an Inn, which while not an actual sidequest, is making me attempt one in my current town. Can bedrooms be built inside a larger room with a sign in it or am I supposed to leave the doors OFF the bedrooms and have the Inn sign within the room walls for it to register as an Inn?

I'm resisting upgrading my walls to wood. I keep thinking they'll let me make stone walls again any second, or maybe brick. Plus the palm trees give you less wood than the plumberry trees, so wood is harder to come by :bigfrown:

I think I need to stop attaching my rooms to the outside city wall, but space seems to be at a premium!

Just make one batch of wood cladding, dig down two squares and forward a bit, then transform a cube of earth into wood walls.
Harvest it, then use it to make more cladding. Presto! It costs like 3 wood? 5 wood?
You can start this cycle with basically any cladding or flooring.

you can seperate the beds with walls, but yeah. Doors signify an entirely new room.

Edit: nvm. The R3 works fine. that's much better.

I was able to make a low level inn, I forget the exact wording they used, with 4 beds, a lightsource, and a door. I'm not sure what else you would need to raise it from "shitthold inn" to something respectable.

So regarding the garden, I think it's the Blacksmith who casually asks you to make it through a chat bubble. Not an actual quest. He mentions wanting a pond. How do I get water blocks? I think I've got all the other materials including the bench, but I'm lacking the ability to make a pond.

I've got a few other random things that I'm not sure what to do with. I broke the cell door off of the jail that was holding the blacksmith. Is it possible to make my own jail? I haven't tried. And maybe put these chains in there? I've got 2 random sets of chains in my inventory.

The Cantlin garden, for the damn challenge:

    -8 blocks of water
    -10 flowers
    -5 plants
    -1 tree
    -1 bench
    -1 brazier

It doesn't have to be made in the city. So since there's no easy way to make water in Ch.1, you can just find a tree next to a pond outside and build around it. And don't pick a tree that's too big, or annoyingly it doesn't count.

You MIGHT be able to irrigate a nearby river over to town as well. Not positive though.

EDIT: WOW. The second boss is incredibly shitty. Holy shit. It should tell you these things ahead of time. Unless you know in advance where it's going to be, this fight is unwinnable.

Mmmm. Chapter 3 is starting to lose me. It seems the games way of ramping up difficulty is to just throw hordes of monsters at you while also not giving you access to healing items reliably. The combat is kinda bad in this game, guys. You should probably rethink things.

I didn't have much of a problem with the second boss. But it kind of highlighted the problems these fights have. There's next to no way to properly build your town defense without advanced knowledge of the fight. Anything you build outside the lighted area in preparation is gone for the fight, but on the flip side I like how it levels the playing field (that fight would have fucking sucked without those land bridges it builds for you). So instead of building up a proper real defense like the game goads you into doing the entire chapter, you just have to freestyle it at the 11th hour. In this case, run out, quickly slap together a small platform for the ballista, and wait and shoot. I just ran away whenever it was flying so its attacks wouldn't destroy the platform.

    i had a two-floor thing that had some awkward-ass stairs in it that i had to run up through waves of enemies to reach whenever the tornado knocked me down ;_______;
toward the end my entire bottom floor was wrecked, the stairs had mostly gone to hell, and it was all a huge mess.
also, i had exactly one good spot to aim a ballista from to hit while it was resting, and it was on top of a room wall, which was another awkward jump.
EDIT: least fun part was when enemies wrecked my colossal chest, because then i had to manage inventory while doing repairs until i found it again...

It's the upgraded door you can build before you get iron to make the fancy solid wooden doors. I haven't figured out how to build anything specific with it.

Soooo I just got my ass kicked by the Dragon Quest VII bonus boss. Is there a recommended level/loadout for fighting him or do I just grind out some more Hero ranks and pray? Any guides out there are for the PSX version and half of then recommend equipment from the second bonus dungeon. It was just constant burning.

I don't think there are any rooms at all that require a specific door. They're all aesthetic. You use one because you like the look or it fits the room, but otherwise the room doesn't care if it's a saloon door or a magic door.

A lot of it is going to be grinding out certain jobs, especially monster jobs. One thing that helps is the top rank tombola prize doubles job experience for 30 minutes, you can try save scumming for those to save more overall time grinding.

The final chapter is so weird. It's the most open and threadbare chapter... and yet it's also the one that potentially holds you by the hand at the same time.
You teleport in with nothing but some rags and a stick. The world is so dead, there aren't any of those annoying assholes at night to bother you. You gotta scrounge and scavenge to build up your tech level, because the enemies needed for the first big quest will kick your ass if you go in with said rags and stick. Then you finally plant the banner and get the town up and running, and it's the most intact ruin yet. Not only is it clear where all the rooms used to be, the first blueprints they give you flat out say "put it here where it perfectly fits". You can totally ignore it and build wherever you want as usual. But you can also take the "paint by numbers" approach too if you so want.

In short, I really like this chapter, despite how weird its tone is.

I don't know anything about Builders really, just reading about it because I've been playing DQ7.

Is it just rebuilding a couple towns, chapter-style, like it's been sounding? Or can you play more Minecraft-style, build crazy structures, make your own towns in the wilderness? Create a floating island with waterfalls flowing off the sides?

It isn't exactly like Minecraft. It looks similar in appearance, due to the blocky nature. But the game is very quest and story driven, and each chapter has a whole list of very specific goals you have to complete. There are a lot of RPG elements in the game as well. Much moreso than Minecraft. You get quests to go rescue villagers, solve little puzzles, defeat specific monsters, and each chapter ends with a boss fight.

Once you complete a chapter, you unlock a free-mode version of that chapter that you can go to and mess around to your heart's content, but the free mode only unlocks after you have completed the story for the chapter.

There's the story chapters with quests and rebuilding the towns. And there's also the free play "build whatever the fuck you want" mode.
