Awesome console multiplayer games [1 console, no Online]

I recently began my Masters on my new university and discovered that you could borrow some controllers and a game to play on the PS3 located in the mess hall. However upon doing so I discovered to my horror that the university only had one single PS3 game with multiplayer on it namely FIFA 2010 (the others were MW2, Killer something, and probably Splinter Cell).

We were told that we could simply write an e-mail for extra game suggestions, so here I am asking you for some awesome multiplayer games on the PS3 console. I have never owned a console let alone a PS3 so I am a bit in the dark.

What I am looking for is a game that can share a single monitor (I think it was 35-40 inches) and at least 2 people. Any category is welcome.

Lego anything (star wars, indiana jones, batman, harry potter) is fun to play multiplayer on one console and I'm pretty sure they are available on PS3.

Castle crashers, Scott Pilgrim, fat princess.

The last might be network multi only, I can't recall, but it's still the most fun I've had with a psn game.

Any number of shooters would probably work. My personal suggestions would be Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 or Army of Two. The more tactical ones with cover systems seem to be more fun in co-op play.

Pixeljunk Monsters, Eden, and Shooter. Racers is sort-of fun, too, but I'd get the other three before I'd get Racers.
