NSFW CONTENT AND SPOILER TAGS

Dear sirs and ma'ams,

There seems to be confusion about what, exactly, spoiler tags do, especially regarding images. Spoiler tags make it so the viewer does not see whatever is behind them. They DO NOT keep the viewer's machine from downloading and caching whatever is behind them.

Thus, using spoiler tags to obscure NSFW or ginormous images does not work. The viewer's machine will still cache the inappropriate images, and it will still download whatever massive animated gif you are convinced is totally hilarious.

If you wish to post a NSFW or giant-ass image, the ONLY ACCEPTABLE WAY TO DO SO is to link to it with a url tag. There will be no more polite warnings for people who continue to make this mistake. There will be, rather, infractions and rude comments about sexual relations with your mother for people who continue to make this mistake. DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE.

Note that the same rules for what NSFW content is acceptable still apply. Borderline images that are relevant to a thread topic are okay. Porn or other blatantly explicit pictures are still not okay, I don't care how rude those titties are. If you're unsure if a picture is kosher, ask a mod first.

    Addendum:

By way of clarification, when I talk about large images, I'm talking about file size, not pixel-width. If you wish to post an image that is, say, 1000 pixels wide, but well under 500k, spoiler tags are fine.

(Note that it's still proper etiquette to spoiler tag wide images.)
