In my humble opinion... this is like Baconaise. I won't get angry because it exists. And I'm sure there is a market for it. But I question why it exists in the first place.

My thought is that it may open the door to more games with this collection of characters (or other crossovers) - maybe something that will interest me more. So...don't see it as all that negative.
It kind of reminds me of the old Serria game network.
Whatever the fuck that thing was called.
I wasn't even aware that TF2 characters talked or had voices
o_O I don't even know where to begin with this comment.
Seriously. Even people who only play Halo all day and have never owned a PC in their life have at least heard of some of the things going on with TF2.
Quick education:
Team Fortress 2 is a class based shooter, but the unique design doesn't just carry over the the visuals, each class is very much its own character with its own personality. They have a tonne of voicework done for them, class updates to make them more defined, and even animated introductory shorts that Valve are working on for all the classes. And a series of comics. The actual game probably has more backstory than most singleplayer FPS's manage.
Anyway, as Olivaw said, watch the shorts, read the comics, play the freaking game you goose.
Meet the Heavy was literally the first short they did, and it was only designed to be a tech demo. They only got better from there.
Because, and I say this as a huge poker fan, there's no fuckin' point in buying a non-multiplayer poker game. None at all
The point of the game is to play with those fictional characters and watch them interact. There doesn't really seems to be much room for multiplayer here.

Then don't make it a poker game
There's so many better genres of game that allows more meaningful character interaction that doesn't smell like cheap cash-in
The thing about it being a cheap cash in, is who cares? Even if I don't personally want the game, if it makes the company I like money so they can support making the products I do like, then that seems all good to me.

Ok, with the parameters of a game that you want to produce easily that you will charge only $5 for and the primary point is exploring the interactions between these disparate characters, what else are you thinking? Just a room with the four characters in it talking? A tiny Smash Bros. Brawl clone? That would just have a lot of one liners, there wouldn't be discussion.

Don't assume. I have Steam and several games including TF2 (which I've only played once, didn't like it), and even I didn't know that they had voices. I don't keep up with TF2 news, because I don't play the damn thing.
Guys, listen, you haven't caught onto what is important.
This game is voiced.
So what is Tycho going to sound like?!
Penny Arcade is pretty friendly with Telltale
So either Jerry himself is gonna do it or there's just gonna be speech bubbles for him, which all the other characters will make fun of
I can't possibly imagine Jerry being a decent voice actor at all. Not to mention he's pretty big on the whole "I'm not Tycho" thing, so he'd probably be fine with some other VA.
I have no problem with them doing a poker game and if people enjoy and purchase it and they make a profit it, then good. That being said, I am pretty disappointed. Seeing those characters advertised by Telltale made me assume we were going to get some sort of crossover adventure game with a number of characters that I really like. Maybe at some point down the line it will happen...
How can anyone be upset about a texas hold em poker game featuring TF2 and PA guys...
THis is awesome!
Edit: Oh wait... is this Steam only?
It's also available through the Telltale store, which actually surprises me a little. I assumed that Valve would want it to only be available on Steam.

Fair enough. There'll always be some people who aren't aware of it, and I shouldn't presume.
It's just that to me it's almost like saying you never knew Lara Croft had a voice because you never played Tomb Raider. By this stage TF2 is even its own sub-genre of bad 4chan memes.

An episodic game series a la Sam and max or strong bad's cool game could've been done on the cheap
And even if it wasn't, I'd still pay up to twenty bucks for just the first episode
And I know I wouldn't be the only one

Sorry reat of post was cut off
I guess what irritates me the most about all of this is he massive wasted potential
It could've been really creative and interesting and instead we get... A poker game
But then you have to develop a world, the mysterious land common to all video game characters, and what does it look like, how does it work, are you going to then try to get other people on board as opposed to just doing a quick one off to see how it's received, etc.
Best to make something simple and see what the community says. A point and click is really not as simple as you'd think, especially not as simple as a poker game.
The more I think about it, the more I think the game certainly works at $5 assuming the presentation/animation is decent and there's as much talking as they say there will be. And honestly, I think those four characters are different enough that they'll play off each other well. Much as I love them, throwing in, say, Max or Gabe as central players would feel a little superfluous, honestly.
...of course, we don't know that the other characters WON'T make appearances in some form.
I really don't see the controversy in Telltale doing a sequel to their Texas Hold'em game with popular, established characters. Let's be honest, who would you rather play poker with? Your loser friends, some randoms at a casino, or Max and Heavy?
I can't see heavy having any lengthy dialog, but I can see him having awesome lines where he's either winning and bragging/insulting you or where he's losing and insulting/threatening you.

Look guys, it's like this, TellTale will make this game and see how people like the characters and how they interact. Then, if it's liked, they can start making an actual adventure game combining the 4 realms.

The first two groups by far?
Speak for yourself dude, my friends have terrible poker faces.
In this game, I get to play Poker without losing money (no more than $5, at least) while characters from three of my favorite dialog-centric multimedia productions clown around. I'll take the animated guys by a country mile.

My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
I have to agree that I think it's a little odd that it apparently won't have multiplayer. I guess I could be wrong, but I assume that you play as one of the four characters.

How many of TellTale's past games have had online multiplayer? Because it's a pretty non-trivial thing to throw into what looks to be a relatively quick one-off game like this.

Quoted for liminess, etc.
I mean, TellTale is a great group for dialogue, and poker is a great excuse to have otherwise-disparate people sitting around in a room quipping at each other.
I'll be buying this less for the actual poker game, and more for a chance to hear Tycho curse out Strongbad using overly elaborate phrases, with Strongbad pointing out that he did graduate from CGNU.

Demoman

Sniper

Maybe not the most creative thing in the world, but if you like poker and these characters, then this is interesting as fuck.
and I wont be able to play it. Maybe early next year when I get a new laptop
