So Tycho mentions Hotel Dusk: Room 215 in his post. Then the game sky rockets on the Buy.com charts from 16 to 1 in a DAY! (From 1/23/07 to 1/24/07)

Check it out here...

Welcome to the boards. This is awesome news, but we do already have a Hotel Dusk thread. Post it up there, everyone will be thrilled.

Also, consider making your topic titles a little more descriptive next time.

This actually isn't that big a surprise.

I don't think "we hav hotel dusk thred alredy stfu noob" is as appropriate a response as "yes, Tycho's ramblings do have an effect on the sales of obscure titles."

    Discuss.

Well, he did link me to the Weird Worlds demo.

And I did buy it the next minute afterwards.

One time Tycho made a big post about Culdcept. For the next two days it was the number one game on Gamerankings.com.

I don't know much about Buy.com, but wasn't some sort of deal with Hotel Dusk posted in the thread by the same name? I would think a discount would be a reason for more sales, but again, I know nothing about buy.com.

not really. it was just the game, regular price, plus using google checkout to get $10 off. But that's the case with anything you order from them (but only for the first time you use google checkout.)

What's really fucked up is this one time, FFXII came out, and I went to the store to buy FFXII, and just because I was buying it, there was this whole line of people also wanting to purchase the game.

This happens a lot, like with the Wii. I got one when it came out, and since I set the phat trends yo, they're still hard to get, since so many people want to be cool like me.

The weirdest part is, I don't even have my own website., and I still wield such an awesome power to lead.

I try to be responsible with my gift, but sometimes, games like Beyond Good and Evil come out without me knowing, and by the time I find out, it's too late to save them.

Uh...Hotel Dusk didn't reach most stores until today...it, well, probably sold more today because it's available to be sold today...

There sure are a lot of pirates around here though, let me put the AC on.

I wish Tycho would talk about games like EBA or Psychonauts or BG&E more often. He usually just mentions stuff like Gears and R6 nowadays. Everyone already buys that shit.

It's the great obscure games that need his powa.

And yes, I know they never ever in any event or circumstance read the forums.

Eh, I think that's stretching it a bit. To me, interactive novel means novel-length interactive fiction, which has no or little GUI.

It is freakin' sweet though, we can agree on that. It is in the Awesome genre.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was going to post it in the Hotel Dusk thread, but then thought that it would spark conversation about the "Effect of Penny Arcade."

My thinking was a bit to grand for my first post I suppose.

They mention every once in a while a reluctance to link sites on the front page, because it has a tendency to melt the destination site down.

Never gotten much of an idea how well it compares to Slashdot's effect though.. I've never seen a site on the PA front page that was completely blown off the net.
