Come to think of it, there was probably more Wii-aiming-appropriate stuff in Wind Waker than there was in TP. You could control the baton, the bow, the telescope, the camera, your ship's cannon, the camera at sea...

After revealing the Super Mario Collection Special Pack on its release calendar, Nintendo of Japan has officially announced the title and opened a website to celebrate the 25th anniversary of everyone's favorite mustachioed plumber. As speculated previously, the pack includes a port of Super Mario All-Stars, a booklet about the history of the Mario series and a CD, which contains Mario music ranging from the original Super Mario Bros. to this summer's Super Mario Galaxy 2. The website also shows off plenty of celebratory Club Nintendo swag.

Super Mario Collection will be released in Japan on October 21 for ¥2,500 ($30). No announcement has been made regarding a North American version of the collection, though it seems like a no-brainer given how successful recent Mario titles have been. Check out a video of the collection after the break.

I want that :P Also, they need a Zelda one in February.

It's not really the 25th anniversary of Mario though, is it? Isn't the 29th anniversary?

This right here. I played Wii TP before Wind Waker. Coming from TP, I found the targeting extremely frustrating during the last boss fight before Ganon.

Yeah they kind of screwed the pooch on that. I was going to say they weren't counting Donkey Kong since he was technically "Jumpman", but they're ignoring Mario Bros. here too.

Nintendo celebrates 25 years of Super Mario Bros with 90-second celeb TV ad

To mark Mario’s silver anniversary Nintendo is launching a wide-reaching marketing campaign featuring a mix of celebrities.

The campaign kicked off on August 9th with a series of fans’ favourite Mario experiences, and explodes today with an epic 90-second TV ad which will be shown during Coronation Street. Stars making an appearance include Jonathan Ross, Ant and Dec, Diversity and Patrick Moore.

This will be backed up by 30-second, 60-second and 90-second TV ads running for a further three weeks, while a 60-second spot will be shown in cinemas across the UK and be seen by around 1.7m movie goers.

Nintendo is also encouraging gamers to get involved and play Mario games at 19 live dates running until September 19th. This offers players 106,400 trials at six different locations nationwide.

25 years ago today the industry’s favourite Italian plumber first made his mark in Japan with the release of Super Mario Bros. Since then Mario has gone on to become gaming’s most successful and acclaimed franchise.

“So many people have grown up with the Super Mario Bros series,” Nintendo product manager Zoe Cooper told MCV.

“It is great that Nintendo’s activity can play a part in helping everyone remember and celebrate their favourite TV moments.”

A huge range of special 25th anniversary POS will also be available to retailers, all stressing the tagline ‘Part of the family since 1985’. There will also be a wide range of PR action taking place today, with editorial takeovers and special features running across several specialist websites and magazines.
