A GameCube meant access to the best Zelda game and best Metroid game
Wrong horse indeed?
As well as some of the best dreamcast ports.
Also best console for Resident Evil fans, and also Eternal Darkness.
Now I kinda want to play it again.
You know, in spite of oddly being willing to replay practically every Rockstar game repeatedly to 100% completion, I've simply never been really interested in replaying Eternal Darkness since I've gotten the 'true' ending.
I'd say the Gamecube had better top tier games than either the PS2 or the Xbox.
Them's flame war incitin' words.
Personally, yeah definitely compared to the XBOX.
I think I got more overall enjoyment out of my PS2 though, but partly because I got my Cube later in the generation and played catch up. I had a great time with all the PS2 mascot platformers, plethora of RPGs, quirky stuff like Katamari and awesome stuff like Shadow of the Colossus.
I bought one with my very first tax return, specifically for KOTOR
Then I was like "Now what?" and it never got used again, except for replaying KOTOR
I kind of felt that way about my GCN. I mean, I used it. Even bought a WaveBird because it was so useful. But I'd managed to get a free copy of Metroid Prime and still haven't broken the seal. The GameCube simply didn't see much use.

No flame war intended, I guess I mean "my favourite", not "better". All three console's that generation had some fantastic games.
I know quite a few people in this thread will be happy about this, myself included:
A pair of online sources suggest that Team Ico's critically-acclaimed PS2 games, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, will be re-released as a bundled PlayStation 3 retail collection early next year.
A listing on Wal-mart.com, which surfaced on the site Saturday, shows "ICO / Shadow of the Colossus (PS3)" available for pre-order at $39.82. The site lists a planned release of April 1st, 2011 for the collection.
Eurogamer today cites unnamed "industry sources" in reporting the British version of the rumored collection will cost £24.99 and hit stores in March or April of next year.
The Eurogamer report also suggests the game will be available for UK pre-order in "the next few days." This timing points to a potential formal announcement for the game at the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place September 16th through 19th.
This is not the first time a PS3 re-release for these two games has been suggested. Team Ico head Fumito Ueda said in multiple interviews surrounding last year's Tokyo Game Show that he would be open to re-releases that would "provide the games to other platforms to reach more users."
More recently, a presentation by Ueda at the CESA Developers Conference on September 1st showed images from Ico with much sharper textures and a wider aspect ratio than the original PS2 release, suggesting an HD-capable version may be in the works.
Sony released HD-enhanced versions the two PS2 God of War games in the PS3's God of War Collection last November. The game sold 650,000 copies in the U.S. through March of this year, before the release of God of War III pushed it off the monthly top 20 sellers.
Team Ico's latest project, The Last Guardian, hasn't been seen since E3 2009, when an four-and-a-half-minute trailer of the game was shown at Sony's pre-show press conference.

I bought an original Halo OXBOX thinking I wasn't going to update my PC anytime soon and for Perfect Dark Zero.
Then I learned that KOTOR would work fine on my 2002 collage PC after I got a copy of the game free from a friend whose collage computer could not run it.
Then I realized I preferred the mouse controls and fewer bugs.
Then PD Zero never came out.
My most played OXBOX game by far? Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2X, the base game I could have played on any of the other four systems I had at the time. Custom soundtracks were ok though!
Second most played were the two Halos. Probably a bit more 2 then 1.
Needless to say I feel that I kinda sorta wasted money on the thing.
My Xbox was used mainly for the best version of Multiplatform games. For most there wasn't that much different, but two of my favourite games of the generation were significationly better on the Xbox (Mercenaries and Chaos Theory)

Xbox Chaos Theory's graphics still hold up really well. I've yet to see a Wii game match it, or at least not a Wii game that's attempted a realistic visual style.

The Xbox version feels like a completely different game to the PS2/Gamecube versions too. The levels were cut up into smaller chunks separated by load times, and the graphics were noticeably worse.
Okay, damn. I take it back. I had a lot of fun on the GameCube, but I just wish I had access to a PS2 as well during that gen. I missed out on a lot of gems, like your Icos and SOTCs and your Ratchets Clanked.

Sort of like some edios PC games that were designed with xbox RAM limitations in mind? :x

C'mon DE: Human Revolution, don't let us down!
'Course, nowadays there's hardly any difference between PC and console FPSs and RPGs anyways.
Panzer Dragoon Orta alone almost made an XBox purchase worthwhile back then.
Is that on LIVE to download? Just remembering the name makes me want to play it again on my HDTV.
No, but one of the last BC updates made the disk version work on the 360. US version works fine outside a couple minor points, but I think the UK version has a major issue on the 360.

Ugh, no, no they don't.
At least, not the version that's on Xbox Originals for downloadable.
Which should be the same as the disc version, right? I downloaded it prior to playing Conviction and then wondered exactly how strong everyone's rose-tinted glasses were in the SC thread.

I don't think it was meant to be a dog pile on you, just a lot of remembering. All in all that was a pretty great generation of consoles.

That's pretty good texture and lighting that does hold up well today, but there aren't enough polys. I'm glad we're generally past square fingers by now.
I think for me it's just that there is a lot of overlap between the oxbox and the PS2. Most of the best games on the Gamecube were only on the Gamecube.

Wow, no, not at all. Those actually look pretty decent...I know it's the Xbox IGN site but are you sure those aren't from the PC version or something? The textures and even character models don't look nearly that good.
Oh, those must be promo screens or something, skip to around page 6 for some actual screens. Except those probably look worse than it really does due to awful jpeg compression.

Sucked the fun right out of it, I'll bet.

Precisely, it was on the bonus disc. XBOX didn't have that!
They could all be played on the GameCube
I meant Wind Waker, but yeah, you could play all of them.

It just seems so pointless.

That decision to kill BC was such a good one.

Wonder how it would have been on Xbox
I bet that Spider-Man 2 was worlds better, as the GC version of that was way beyond the PS2 version
Other ones include PoP:SoT and BG&E and of course, Soul Caibur II.

PS2 though had some really great games and the vast majority would be easily behind calling that the clear winner.
it's the OXBOX that really trails behind.

PC all the way until you get to Double Agent which was terrible on every system other than the oxbox
