I'm still looking for a good 2v2 partner who's gonna be on consistently.
Also, do you guys really think 1.1 will change the 2-gate / 4-gate push dramatically? It seems to be only an extra 5 seconds per wave, and 5 seconds more per initial zealot. I'm not sure the 20-40 seconds really makes a difference for zerg players. Am I wrong?
Roaches build in 27s so that extra 20-40 seconds means another batch of Roaches to fight the Zealots off with.

it *might* buy you 10-15 on a 2 gate push, but not much more than that. Chrono will just go to the units, and not the warpgates.
I think Metalopolis is the most popular map because it's the most balanced. It has multiple flanking routes, is rather open but has plenty of cliffs as well and is nice and flat.
Zerg can flank and ambush
Terran can set up on cliffs and control chokes
Protoss can hide tech easily

Guys, do you think it makes sense to get shield upgrades, instead of armour, when facing a Terran Bio Ball? Mauraders suck at killing shields due to hardened shields, but marines chew them up. Technically 1+1 armour is better than 1 shield against marines, but I figure keeping the shields up a smidge longer might be more effective.
Also, the more I play Protoss, the more I miss my Probes meowing.

Metalopolis is very balanced, but I think people miss the point: Blizzard doesn't want every map balanced. They want certain maps to favor certain races, because it adds tactical depth. People got around this in SC1 by playing mostly custom maps, but with the way the ladders work, you play the maps Blizzard puts in the pool...and Blizzard isn't going to pull all the unbalanced maps from the pool.
I think that instead, they'll just make sure the map pool itself is balanced. There should be just as many balanced maps as there are terran favored as there are protoss favored as there are zerg favored.

I thought the shield upgrade is always the one most Protoss got first. That said, against Terran, it might actually be better to get armor, because of Ghosts.
Armor is often upgraded over shields due to ghosts and most units having more hp than shields, so theres more effect over the course of a battle. If you're really good with micro shields could be better first.

there need to be choke points... do you prefer the flat ones? island hop? completely open, make your own choke?

Those extra 5 seconds are going to help if I decide I want to open with an 8pool vs toss.
The timing on their first zealot is already pretty tight for them if they've decided they want to 13gate open.
I don't remember who suggested it, but SOMEONE suggested playing against the AI on very hard, then copying their build order/unit movement precisely for the first eight minutes to get out of my "I'm worse than bronze" blues.
Holy mother of god did that work out well. I played against the AI playing zerg, then copied the build order: 10 OL, 13 pool, 15 gas, 16 warren, 16 queen, 17 OL, 18 2nd gas. Then roaches, and then even later hydras. Send the spawn OL to scout at the very start, then send six roaches to be like "hey did you build a good defense?"
I practiced against medium AIs just to get the build order down meticulously, and once I didn't have to look at a cheat sheet anymore I played a ladder match. It was a ludicrous stomping, way better than I've ever done. I just macro'd like hell, took out a couple stalkers with my first batch of roaches, kept pressure up on him, and killed about a million void rays with about ten million hydralisks.
I felt stupid for just building hydralisks and overlords after a while, but I won. And I think I could do it again against the typical opponents I've been losing to so far. So thanks for the help, PA! YOU ARE THE BEST.

Now you need to start learning different openings against different races, and how to scout, so you can adjust your build to what they build. Once you get that down, you're well on your way.
Thought I was finally going to win a game. I had siege tanks in my base ready to go and a pile of vikings, had a few reapers do a lot of early harassment. Watched my opponent roll up to my base with siege tanks and appear to retreat as I started blasting. Then it turned out he'd just camped them exactly outside my range, aimed at the ramp. This denied me a second base, which he already had one of, and I was fucked.
I cannot figure starcraft out.
Float a command center out of there. Alternately, cloak some banshees to remove the tanks. People at low levels are really bad about detectors.
Was going to try that, but I would have to take the reactors off the starport that was pumping out vikings, then build a tech lab, then train banshees. He'd already started building missile turrets around his tanks before I'd even started thinking about it.
Today, a guy built two gateways and a cybernetics core. He sent three zealots at me. My roaches popped as they showed up and killed them. Then he quit. Yay?

His all in was thwarted by your Roaches.
Like TheStig said - hardly an all in. Sounds like a common 2 gate opening. did he sacrifice the zealots, or pull back? well, he just quit, so n/m i guess...
if he pulls them back and gets a couple stalkers to accompany them on their journy, the roaches fair far worse.
Hardly an all-in.
But yeah, some dudes don't know what to do after suffering the most minor of setbacks.
Doing "Play Cooperatively" while solo really exposes you to some sad players. Me and two randoms against three computers. I don't know the map name, but it's one where each team has their bases by each other. The comps' first push around the 6-8 minute mark approaches. They end up attacking the ally on the opposite side of me. I send all my zealots over and the other ally sends his units. The attacked ally loses all his army and some depots and such at the front, but the rest of us take out the attack. His economy is still intact as they never made it to his worker blob, and most of his buildings are fine. Then he leaves the game.
One attack on you and you bail? Now that's tenacity.

Just played a game where my opponent spammed battlecruisers, and I spammed corruptors (which are the best counter to BCs, right?). Anyway, I produced twice as many resources as he did, poured them all into corrupters, and still lost by a landslide. What the hell could I do?

Every time I get a chance to play vs a plat on the ladder and start moving out of this shithole....they do something completely oddball. I go in expecting a real game....concentrating on macro, and then comes a phoenix+voidray rush from some proxy starport somewhere. So depressed.

i think it's part of making a map pool where you have balanced maps and other maps that have a slight imbalance that's not insurmountable to beat
Steppes of War is a good map for this, I think. It favors Terran, but it's not an unbeatable advantage, and can be nullified by good play.

Can you control group combo of yours and his units?
Yes. Shared control is the first thing me and my friends set in team games.
You can also do things like raise and lower your partners supply depots. Which is handy on a T/T 2v2 team.
