In that interview, he mentioned that he would like to see a Taiwanese character. Aren't Sagat and Adon from Thailand?

Glad he comes off as very humble, but that picture with Arturo is priceless.

Taiwan's actually kind of a thorny issue internationally. They're technically not recognized as a separate country because of their relationship with China, similar to Hong Kong I believe.

    Awesome.

I think I was most happy seeing Arturo get beat because I was getting sick of him winning every single Team Spooky-streamed tournament.

I really didn't expect him to win SB, but still...

EDIT: Right now it's only in the arcade edition. There will probably be a patch for console sometime in the future.

I feel like he should have Alex's stomp to compensate (for all the ducking), but that would probably make him way overpowered.

I never played SF3 that much, so i don't know what you're talking about, but i'll take your word for it. :)

Also note, I don't claim to be an expert on Hakan, i just enjoy playing him and try to get rid of some of the negative stigma that comes with him.

Alex was the man in SF3. Not tier-wise, just in the sense of "America, fuck yeah!" He's got a command throw that hits crouchers and a jumping command throw that doesn't (sound familiar?) He also had a move to dash across the screen and elbow a dude in the face. At close range, he could threaten with the jumping throw (which you would duck) and a charged stomp that has to be blocked high and causes knockdown.

Anybody with good reflexes could tell between the two, but it at least forced you to pay attention. With Hakan, I feel like my opponents just back away and block low until I fuck up.

I hear you on the opponents being able to shut down a lot of Hakan's tricks by just turtling. I do seem to remember that you can still oil rocket a crouching opponent. Last time i tested it worked against Cody at least.

Alex sounds pretty cool, some kind of flop move would be pretty nice, like Honda's sumo slam or whatever it's called..you know...the butt slam thing.

So after calling Daigo "free" and a "scrub" live on the stream after he manages to beat him, Marn then turns around and posts a sort-of apology on the EG website, probably at the behest of his sponsors wanting him to show that is isn't some douche.

He somehow manages to end the "apology" with "Daigo didn't help the scene, Daigo killed the scene. Real talk"

Real talk? Wow. So much for being gracious in victory. Such a fucking diva. Marn could take pointers in how to comport himself in a professional manner from Gamerbee, and Bee isn't even officially sponsored by anybody. Methinks EG needs to add some dignity to their team, and get rid of some gutter trash.

Yeah, that's a back-handed apology if i've ever read one. He seems to blame the hype and the crowd for his own actions. That seems fairly par for the course now days, blame everyone but yourself.

You win? Fine, celebrate, don't start flapping your gums and talking trash about respected players like that. It makes you look small.

And yes, it was a good win, Daigo shouldn't have hadoken'd from that close when he had ultra, but come on! It's not like he destroyed Daigo, he got a good victory, that's all. Take your moment with some grace.

I still don't understand what he means by Daigo killing the scene.

I dunno. I was there. I already said in IRC that I think the crowd caused it all. There was a load of heckling headed Daigo's way.. and it was just really awful. Before Marn had even said anything, the entire audience was being positively hostile toward him. That nonsense with the team match was pretty unacceptable.

After being there I can definitely understand what he's trying to say.

edit: Daigo didn't really kill the scene, I don't think, but everyone was certainly killing Daigo there. I can't even begin to explain how hostile it was in there for the poor guy. Like I said, the same attitudes extended toward Marn as well, and were only suspended during the 5v5 and when he beat Daigo. Really a shitty crowd overall.

In one of my matches in Philly, I was going up against a turtle Rose.

It was in the team tournament and I had the absolute shittiest teammate in the room (he came for 3S, was horrible in 4). We were also a man down.

So, I didn't care. I had torched a few people on the stream already, so I didn't care how our team did at this point, I just wanted to have fun.

One of the other guys teammates, in the third round, suddenly booms "FUCK BISON!!" from about 3 feet away from me..

Yeah, the tournament scene is different.

I still think the scene is pretty friendly overall, but definitely very aggressive in their reactions.

Nah, necro had the hop snake, the ankle grab, the spinning elbows and electric shock (DP + mash).

What really struck me as odd about SF4 after SF3 is how many special moves SF3 characters have. Alex has power bomb, spinning DDT, stomp, elbow dash, that fireball slash, AND an anti-air!

My whole thing about the Marn thing was that the attitude was "Marn won, so let him gloat" Which imo is fucking neanderthal thinking. Show some grace in defeat, and in victory. Just because you're a "tourney player" doesnt give you the right to disrespect a beaten opponent.

The shit talking/heckling/absolute nonsense is a constant, though. I've realized that it happens in defeat, in victory, and everywhere in between. The only one who wasn't really getting in on it were the international contestants, and the USA pros were chill as well until the crowd got into them. There wasn't really any excuse for how Marn was treated in that team match, though. :\

I dunno if it was streamed or not, but it was played on the stream console. I was in the crowd when it happened and it was during the 3v3 team portion of the tournament, so that would be.. first day of competition? That Friday afternoon. I forget who got eliminated, but when it was Marn's turn to play, there was a lot of jeering. One dude came up from the other team and literally just climbed up in Marn's face to talk trash. It wasn't even the dude's turn to play, but he just hopped up to get at Marn and talk a bunch of nonsense to him. This was before anything had really even happened in the tournament. Strangely, Daigo received much the same treatment, but usually from the crowd. I don't think anyone was willing to get into his face.

Thats brutal... Daigo s gonna show up at the next tourny with a Yakuza squad at his side. o_o

I also don't get the Daigo comment. When I first learnt of Daigo and saw his victories over all the other pros, it made me realise that this game is all skill at a point. Seeing Ryu smash all the other chars with his basic fundamentals and zoning was like wow, Street Fighter is awesome and I'm going to play it for a long time.

My opinion is that you control your own actions. If some dude gets in your face, act like a pro and shake it off. Take it to a match, show him why you're a pro, why your sponsored by a company that probably cares about your image.

I understand the hype, but you gotta go beyond that, especially when you're representing an organization. heck, stand up and ask the crowd to calm down, or be nice or something. Will you be laughed at? Probably with all the jerks in the crowd, but some will take notice and check themselves.

The pros can build or break the scene\community\whatever by thier conduct. Marn does nothing to help it by his. I'm sure he's not the only one though, he's just the focal point right now.

Except that's the part you're getting wrong. He's HELPING the scene by acting like that. It's what the crowd is wanting and antagonizing for. That's the whole point I'm trying to make here. When he says Daigo killed the scene, it's because Daigo doesn't do shit when he wins/loses. We expect some level of respect and humility out of our fighters, but the crowd at these events don't want that. Not even in the slightest.

It's sad, but it's the truth. I learned that preeetty quick.

Also, when I think of "helping the community" I think of people like Gootecks and Mike Ross doing Cross Counter, Alex Valle and his Level|Up streams, Team Spooky, etc. In my opinion Marn hasn't done shit for the community.

On another note, I started messing around with Adon in ranked last night. He is awkward, but fun!
