It goes back to the thug life attitude brought up last page. Something that i can never understand.

Which makes me wonder if it will ever die out with the swan song of MvC2 and ushering in MvC3 which could bring in a lot more players of varying demeanors. Maybe the "thugs" will be diluted some. Heck i don't know.

    I'll take 10 Mike Ross's or Gamerbee's or Daigo's for every 1 Marn.

On another note, I started messing around with Adon in ranked last night. He is awkward, but fun!
I'll admit it, Gamerbee made me do it.

If you can consistently land the 1 frame link from jaguar crunch (f+MP) into cr. LK, Adon becomes a goddamn monster. If you can't (e.g. me), he seems sort of lackluster.

So, I didn't care. I had torched a few people on the stream already, so I didn't care how our team did at this point, I just wanted to have fun.

Certain overheads have different hit advantage on crouching targets. Ryu's overhead for example is +3 on standing which lets you link a jab -> combo but is only +1 on crouchers (and since it's 2 hits, you don't get any frame advantage benefit from counterhit). No idea if this is the case with Adon but I wouldn't be surprised.

Overheads are pretty overrated IMO in sf4.

(EDIT) Tried playing some games online today. I still have some weird delaying lag. No idea what the problem is... maybe the wireless I guess? Also, ran into a fuck ton of Guys and T.Hawk's for some reason. All horrible... go figure.

Look, I agree with the other poster in that YOU control your actions not the crowd. Making excuses just feeds into that. If the crowd sucks, the crowd sucks, but you don't have to passively ACCEPT it. Be a man. Conduct yourself like one.

You know what, I want EG to dump Marn, show some backbone and not tolerate that shit from someone on their roster. I'm not saying I don't understand what was happening, I went to big tourneys too, the thing is to not just give it a pass.

You guys want the FG scene to grow up? Start with not giving poor sportsmanship a free pass just because it's coming from some "big" player. Fuck that shit. Daigo, and Gamerbee have shown how a pro should behave. Don't reward the thugs and stream monsters, call that shit out.

Abel can link a jab off his overhead, but not much else happens after.

Dudley can overhead into bnb but the link is really hard. Ibuki can do the same.

Really overheads are kinda garbage in this game. I'd prefer if they were more
    common and also better.

Cody's is -3 on hit as well. In general, yeah OH is kinda meh in Super, with a few exceptions. So you are almost always served best by just downbacking it and teching, because worst case scenario, you get thrown or hit with an OH, for considerably less damage than if a combo hit you.

I like playing in lobbies with you guys, but on days where I can't win a match due to dropped combos and other execution fail (or getting mindfucked by sol's Akuma), I get bored as hell if there are more than 3 people in there, and everyone except me doesn't have a mic. If I'm not going to be playing as often, I at least want to have someone to talk to about the matches or something, but it seems like nobody ever has their mic. I guess some people can stay in irc and chat on there while they're waiting, but I have to go sit in my living room and even change a network cable to play, so irc is not an option. They are a great group of guys, Spooky is awesome and their stream quality is insane - but I hate the way that SSF4 casting is and it's kind of part of the reason I don't really do it anymore and have moved more into SC2 (also because I barely have time for anything and being able to cast from home is way more convenient).

(EDIT) as far as professionalism and killing the scene goes... meh. It's what the crowd (read: majority) wants. It would be like the WWF or whatever cleaning up their shit.

That said, I think Marn is wrong about Daigo 'killing the scene'. I think his stone-faced response to what goes on around him just defines his 'character'. He's not the showboater that Justin or Marn is, he's just the stone cold player. That's his persona and it's really no less effective to the 'scene' as a whole as any other persona.

Don't know how anyone can still be surprised by Marn. Kid's been acting the fool for yeaaars.

It also helps if you take a lot of what's said and done at tourneys with a grain of salt. People get hyped up and say or do things, for whatever reason. It's the same thing with people who call each other out online leading up to a tourney. A certain level of competitiveness is actually needed and desired for competition to flourish.

Anyway, there's a better than 60% chance that I'll be heading to NEC with whoever goes for SC or Tekken. There's going to be another Soulcalibur retro side thingy along with the regular tourneys, and even with the recent fallout and drama from the last big tourney the turnout should be decent. If anyone wants to play anything, or knows a place to eat that isn't Mcdonalds, we should meet up.

I've really been looking for a used copy of SSF4 just for kicks, but I can't find one under $40, which is lame. I just want to finish off my minor collection for local tourney's sake. I'm still down to play SC4, VF5, or even a bit of T6 (even though I can't get into it at all) on xbl if anyone's interested.

Eh, that's not cool either though because it's their tournament and their content. I tried to keep things clean with my stream when I was doing it and I even got flak from people for pussifying it or whatever they wanted to call it.

It's the general culture of the scene unfortunately, which is fine, but it doesn't help bring in new people. Some people also take the trash talk/rivalry/etc way too far which doesn't help either. I've met a ton of awesome people from the Fighting Game scene, both locally and at events like Evo - but I still don't really like the overall culture of the scene and I really don't think it will ever go away.

Well, Evo as far as the stream and such was concerned was MUCH better. But the only other group that did that sort of commentary was FADC and they are gone now.

I really liked the vibe @ Evo, but I am more talking about the smaller events and such which happen more frequently. I also was very, very drunk @ Evo so I can't really rely on my memory of things all that well.

Saying it won't go away is strong, I just think it will be a while and I really wish MLG (or another similar/more professional organization) was able to do SSF4 because I think it would go a long way.

edit: didn't feel like adding this in the middle - but I had a few guys try to fight me and such @ Evo for cheering on my buddies. And that was when I was sober. So overall I had a good time, but I couldn't even believe that shit was happening at a tournament. If you are seriously that upset over losing or have a problem with people cheering their friend (and i mean that, I never once bad mouthed or talked shit about the guy that they were playing) then you either need to get better and never lose, or grow up.

That last part is somewhat unrelated and more isolated incidents, and could happen in any sort of atmosphere - but it blew my mind. In all my time competitive gaming/etc I've never run into that.

I know I hear a lot about dp spamming kens but when is a good time to jump online? When I'm done with the trials?

The one in Philly is run by Eric, a big bouncer mf'er...so it'll get loud and raucous, but it'll be fine.

Controller reviews so far....the point where you are crouching instead of backing up is different. It's not as lenient as a normal 360 analog stick in that regard.

The shoulder buttons and triggers aren't as lenient either, but that's okay.

I am still getting used to it, but we'll see how it goes. I am making dumb mistakes, though.

On the bright side, I found out Bison's neutral jump FP beats Cammy's SRK clean lol.
