A few years ago I stumbled into ~5000 comic books and after moving them twice I've decided I'd rather sell them for what ever I can get rather then move them a third time. I poked around the local comic book stores and none would even talk to me about buying them or even trading them (One idea I had was to take 5000 and change them into just a few books much easier to move and store) but again no one would talk to me. I've looked into places the take them as donations but never found enough information about those groups to make me confident I would ever see even the tax deduction.
So I have decided to try eBay and looking around I find a few sellers in Toronto which is fine since I'm currently in the Kitchener Waterloo area and drive them out is no big deal.
The comics are from 1979-1995 a lot of Punisher and marvel titles all are in 7.0+ shape though not boarded.
So I'm wondering if anyone has ever used an eBay seller, is there anything i should look for or ask about? Can anyone recommend one in Ontario?
Is there any other way of getting rid of these things I haven't thought of?
eBay sounds like the right place to get rid of such a large collection. You'll have exposure to millions of people across the world. Have you tried listing any of it on Craigslist just to test the waters?
I manage an eBay guitar/consigment company and generally we charge 30% commission if the item sells for over $100.00. If the item doesn't sell, we eat all of the listing fees and charge the customer nothing.
Because it is such a large collection and would take a LOT of listing and photographing, any eBay sellers you take it to may charge a fee up front just for the time invested in listing it.
I am going to agree with the previous post. It is possible that your collection is not worth nearly as much as you think. Only particularly rare individual issues ever have much value at all.
Unless you have something particularly exciting, I would guess that the dime to quarter range per issue is the high end of what you can expect.
Where your 'local comic book stores' downtown or out in Kitchener/Waterloo? There are plenty of comic book stores downtown, not sure if they buy comics or not. Silver Snail would be my first choice to ask.
Question - Do you have any of the mid-90's Deadpool Series? I've been hunting for that :P
Sorry need to clarify the offer was $50. Now I'm not thinking that I've got the lost comics of Stan lee here but I know that a complete 5 years of Punisher in triple is worth at least $100.
Thanks for the tip about the Silver Snail I might have missed them before.

Yah i've done Craigslist and kijiji both result in super low ball offers or people asking for one or two specific comics.
There's a pretty good chance that those lowball offers are in the ballpark of what that "collection" is worth.

Not necessarily.
