I knew that there was no way DNF could actually come out without getting completely panned by the critics. I don't understand how that reviewer can be perturbed about having an hour of build up before the action starts. It sounds great to me.
From what I can gather, what will happen is this - Duke's a rich guy after saving the planet the first time. He doesn't do very much anymore except go on talk shows and book signings. Aliens invade. Duke steps up and is told he is a relic from a past age, and that diplomacy is the way to deal with the invaders. Diplomacy fails and Duke says get the fuck out of my way and saves the world again using his "dated" methods from a past age.
You can have 4 weapons at once. pipe bombs and trip mines don't count towards your 2 weapons at a time mechanic. I hope that pistol doesn't count either. One of my greatest pet peeves in weapon juggling games is that a pistol takes up just as much space as a fucking rocket launcher. It's a fucking pistol, strap it to your hip and have it be a default fallback weapon!
Thats still just two real weapons, which is what I was on about. I don't count grenades. :P
Wha? He just said the pipe bombs and trip mines don't count.
This is more fitting for the "Bitching about specific aspects of games that bother you" thread, but in a game like DNF, or really any game that allows you to carry oodles of weapons, I'd like to be able to see the player dragging around a whole armory in their back.
Especially given that this in DNF, and not Half-Life 2, so your character is not a mysterious bodyless force of violence, so you will be seen in mirrors, and physically interact with the environment (as the trailer shows). I think it'd be pretty cool to look in a mirror and see Duke nonchalantly dragging around a chaingun, several belts of ammo, an RPG-7, a shotgun, a bunch of pipebombs and the freeze gun.

Add to the character, if you will.

My fiancee, who has next to no interest in video games besides Sims and Civilisation, told me last night that she used ot play the original Duke Nukem platformer a lot when she was young, and would complete all 9 levels in under an hour.
...I'm so proud.

Jimmy's right about what I meant. Its why I mentioned how I would be switching constantly between "proper" weapons in DN3D, and it was a thing I really liked. I've seen counter points that it'd require the entire game be rebalanced with ammo/weapon placement, but truth be told, its not like your shotgun or anything else had unlimited ammo in DN3D. It was easily possible to run out of ammo, either because mouse aiming was weird going on the Y-axis, or because you're desperately trying to shoot an exploding shark out of the air while fumbling over obstacles.
I've seen pictures of a weapons menu, though. Half-Life style. Older builds of the game, though. Looks like the same engine as the current version.
There's no official words about that image yet, no confirmation or denial. I'm hoping its real, but I can't see that being less than $100. Which puts it out of my price range.

That's pretty much how every FPS operated until about Halo.
Indeed, which is just another point in favour of older FPS. :P
Duke isn't a marine, he isn't realistic, he's Duke. He's the king and we're supposed to hail to him, when Bruce Campbell isn't around. He should be capable of trotting around everything, including the kitchen sink.
It even seems the number of pipe bombs is on par with all other shooters of today. Looking at screen shots, in the upper right, you see a picture of the pipe bomb and a picture of the trip mine. Number is never above a single digit. Just a generic grenade with a button trigger.
This game having underwater sections reminded me how almost no FPS games nowadays have underwater sections. They weren't that bad and allowed for nice 3d movement if done well.

Nice dice!! Does it come with those poker chips too? I'll somehow incorporate their immense worth into a game of Texas Hold'em

[strike]Something is off about that collectors edition. It feels somewhat fan-made. Aliasing on the box, sharp edged game cover and a few other things seem off.
The bust looks exactly like the one I saw in a an interview with 3D Realms in their office.
It looks cool, but I'd take it with a grain of salt.[/strike]

Well, that's not an actual photo of actual objects in an actual environment together, if that's what you're getting at. That's obvious by the perspective, especially the sticker, and the shadows and reflections.
Whether it's fan-made or not has nothing to do with that.

Am I missing something?
Don't think about it too hard.
i.e. You get 4 total weapons: BFG, BFG, pipe bomb, mine. So only two proper ones (BFGs).
That does seem kinda bullshit.

There's a build comparison thread at the Gearbox site, which has images of the weapon menu.
Edit: Also, this.

Assuming it is, yes.

There, fixed so that everything important would be able to fit.
early making-of scenes predate Blu Ray... and DVDs... and colour film.
It also needs to come with a Mr. Burns so he can explain the references to you.
Resident 8bitdo expert.
Resident hybrid/flap cover expert.
HMMMMMMMM.
It's missing two balls of steel and a titty pen.
