Edit: And this isn't the Steam thread. I remarked about my dislike for it's relevance to this product. No need for yet another pointless debate, in which the end is always "we agree, but have different priorities".

If you don't want to have a discussion about it, why mention it at all?

The thought process is like this:

See news article > read news article
Check on other posters' views and responses to news article > notice discrepancy between my own and others' views
Think "Heh, that's a thing, huh?" > post, because I had just previously posted two things directly relevant to my desire to pre-order/the status thereof, an irrelevant and unimportant update, basically

    Then these things happen:
A goose, or even a gaggle of geese, come and act snarky because oh no, I disagree, without actually saying anything other than slightly subtle versions of "you're wrong, jerkface"
I reply > realize that my reply will simply spark off a long and pointless "discussion" ending in the same conclusion it always does > suggest conversation not take place as it has done time and again

There is nothing about my opinion that needs defending. I was not discussing the intrinsic value of Steam, praising it or deriding it. I was stating that I pre-ordered this title for $100, that is a lot of money, due to my preferences, this gives me pause. I see nothing that needs to be defended there, at best, it was an off-hand and unimportant post, one I expected to be largely passed over. Kind of like this one, except switch off-hand for "shouldn't have been necessary".

In conclusion: DNF looks really good, we should discuss it. Am I crazy, or did the last trailer from a while ago totally have an Expander ray in it? I swear I saw a pig cop get bigger and explode.

Then that's that. I think we've seen every DN3D weapon back in action, right?

Have we seen any new one's? I know the enforcers/assault troopers (I think that's what they look to be?) have a blue laser chain-gun, that I think can be see in leaked footage. I'm hoping for more BFG/special/crazy guns. I won't be boo-hooing if there isn't, but being that Duke has a thing for them, and I can't name a sequel that only contained previous weapons, I'm hoping for a good surprise.

Assuming the game is, in fact, easily modable.

I'm not looking forward to having to boot up Steam, and then the game itself, just to play it on PC, however there are a lot worse DRM out there.

I'm surprised it sold out before the console versions did. I guess that most people that remember/are interested in Duke, are still using PCs?

Being low on ammo was a feature in DN3D. It was the game telling you "it's time, the freezethrower calls to you".

Except on the early levels when you don't have that many options, you should have some ammo for fights most cases as long as you aim first and are willing to use pipebombs and heavy weapons on mid-tier and higher enemies like god intended.

On one hand, scarce ammo did make for some interesting gameplay for Duke 3D.

On the other hand, you are in L.A.. There should be sections where you are literally swimming in shotgun, pistol, and machine gun ammunition.

Holy hell. How much does an average game cost, regular edition, at launch in the UK?

After checking some currency things, that's only $70 CAD. A meager $10 to 20 more than the average launch price. God damn.

Lucky bastards. Now I know how Australian gamers feels about the rest of the world.

For Canadians, GameStop has also made the Balls of Steel edition available for pre-order (PC, 360, PS3). Same prices as everywhere else. I couldn't get it set-up in-store, though, apparently still not anywhere other than their website. Still waiting for a more reputable place like Best Buy to get in on the action, so I can switch over to 'em for their tasty return policies and price matching.

Edit: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFU- No Best Buy or Future Shop availability? That sucks. GameStop isn't exactly a smooth shop, they have zero price matching (and their prices suck as a rule), and their return policy borders around "if we feel like it". Still guess I'll be going with them, since I have some kind of grace period after delivery to opt out.

Update: 2K has provided additional details in its press release (in full after the break), revealing that the Balls of Steel Edition will be exclusive to Amazon and GameStop in North America -- for $100.
