There's a "zombie want to eat you, while you want to eat strippers" cunnilingus joke in there somewhere, but I am far to classy to make it. In fact I'm typing with my picky's raised just to show how classy I am.
Holy crap, if they ever made this game into a movie, Charlie Sheen would undoubtedly be the star. Duke Nukem is basically Charlie Sheen if he was an action hero.

There's something about this concept that makes me very unhappy and disturbed.

Yeah, but duke is an actually likable character (unless you're a feminist).

Shadow Warrior was, I think, mechanically superior to Duke Nukem 3D. It was also very racist, but it did have things like vehicles and transparent water.
Shadow Warrior's engine and build.exe were markedly improved from DN3D in terms of new features and ease of actually making levels.
The art resources available were better in Duke, but that didn't stop my friend and I from making deathmatch levels of our own homes (including snowed-over variants) with an area the size of a city inside a shed, vehicle combat stages including a land-submerging "subterrain", the communications tower from Metal Gear Solid, and tons of other experimental stuff.
All the features of the game could be abused to do stuff the designers never dreamed of, such creating non-closed infinite loops of space, transcendental engineering, shit-to-ship combat, and so much more.
